General Discussion / My two favorite recipies, so far!!
« on: September 01, 2010, 08:36:41 PM »
I continually come back to these faves.. The FTS chili with black soy beans and the Chicken Teriyaki these are staple meals in my home... love them.
I've been away from the board for a few days.... busy getting things perfect for more foster kids to come in.
I have stayed on the FTS plan 100% as far as food is concerned.  My biggest problem is  portion control and having a zero carb hot dog as a snack (several times a day).  I'm a grazer... never had regular meal times because of my ex-career. Now that I am retired from it I can't get into a reg. schedule of eating. Needless to say, I am not losing very fast... but I am losing.

Just got back from my annual physical and all my blood test results were normal... no more high chloresterol!  Also, my B6 level was on the high side of normal where it had been on the very low side before.  When I got home I looked it up online and found this,

"According to the Harvard School of Public Health, the body requires between 1.3 and 1.7 milligrams of vitamin B6 per day.  Intake should be kept below 100 milligrams per day to avoid adverse side effects. Meats: Virtually all meats are great foods high in vitamin B6.  Poultry products like turkey and chicken contain about half a milligram of vitamin B6 per three ...

Vitamin B6 may have an anti-cancer role
Mon Jun 21, 2010 12:00 AM GMT

Author: Rachelle de Bretagne

Although news stories break on an ongoing basis regarding cancer prevention, the latest break by the American Medical Association after research on more than 400,000 people, showed that those who had a higher percentage of vitamin B6 were less likely to contract cancer. This is quite an outstanding result, since effectively, what this means is that an adjustment of diet can help in the fight against this deadly disease ...

Eating more meat, which I didn't do before, may help prevent cancer... one more great 'side effect' of the FTS plan!!

After losing about 24 lbs in the first 3 weeks of FTS I was really excited!  Then I not only didn't lose but gained a few pounds and stayed there for what seemed like an eternity!  Last week I finally got back down to the lowest I had been on FTS then THIS week I broke through to the next set of ten pound increments!
I wish it was coming off faster but I know that it didn't get on that fast and the slower I lose the better for me health wise.
With so many years of YoYo-ing my body just thinks I'm kidding when I start a weight loss plan.  Now I think it's getting the message... This is a way of life now.  There is no turning back to the high sugar routine it was used to!
I've got a long ways to go, but inch by inch, I'll get there!  Minus 26 and counting!!

After being at the same place on the scale for a few weeks, and being consistant with the FTS eating plan, I was getting a little discouraged... But today I broke through that level!! I'm so happy I'm doing the happy dance!

Sides and Snacks / baked beans??
« on: August 02, 2010, 11:00:05 AM »
Do you have a good baked bean recipe?  I tried to find one in Doug's book but didn't see one.  I remember someone on the forum asking about black soy beans being used for baked beans... is that the best?  What other ingredients?  Can your recipe be eaten cold at picnics? Thanks!

Child Support (Kid friendly recipes) / Turtle burgers
« on: July 30, 2010, 11:14:24 PM »
All foods we can have.. would be cute for a childrens' party...

Handmade ground beef patties, topped with sharp cheddar cheese, wrapped in a bacon weave, then the next step, add hotdogs as the heads, legs with slits for toes and tail.

Next step.  Place on an oven rack, covered loosely with foil and baked for 20-30 minutes at 400 degrees.  A little crispy, not too crunchy...just how a turtle should be, no?

I find it REALLY HARD to pick just 30 potential winners when I want everyone to know the truth about weight loss.  All of them seem worthy.

Ask Umpa / Limit on whipping cream?
« on: July 22, 2010, 01:06:50 PM »
I have been making a lot of freezes using whipping cream instead of milk.  It's hot here, I am am used to ice cream.  This is a great substitute but I have gained nearly 3 lbs.  My portions are the correct size in my meals.  But I have 'gone crazy' making stuff with the cartoned (not aerosol) whipping cream.  Is this just a fluctuation not to worry about or should I be limiting my whipping cream intake?

« on: July 18, 2010, 11:20:38 AM »
Today marks the end of the fifth week for me.  I have lost 24 lbs.,  my clothes are loose, my daily headaches have vanished, and I have more energy.  I'd call that a major success!!  This is a lifestyle I can live with. I don't feel deprived of anything and my cravings for various foods have disappeared! Hallelujah!

General Discussion / Chili
« on: July 17, 2010, 12:14:41 PM »
I received my black soy beans yesterday by UPS so I make some Chili last night for dinner. Yum! I cooked ground beef (1 lb.) Added on can of the black soy beans, 1 cup of Pace Salsa, minced garlic, and 1/2 cup low carb marinara sauce ( mixed with about 1/4 cup of water to get all the good stuff out of the jar).  Calculated everything and divided by four servings... equaled slightly less than 6 carbs per serving. Not bad for just throwing stuff together I had in my fridge!  Will probably taste even better tonight as the beans have had time to absorb some flavors.

Ask Umpa / Shirataki Noodles
« on: July 16, 2010, 11:01:59 AM »
I go googled zero carb noodles and read the reviews.  Is this the same product Doug suggests using?  The reviews were not very good.  Makes me reluctant to try them.  What does Doug do to make them palatable? Input form all members encouraged... I want to know what they are really like B4 buying! Thanks.

General Discussion / lettuce wraps
« on: July 14, 2010, 05:15:36 PM »
Okay, I bought some red leaf lettuce thinking it would make a pliable wrap... not working so well.  What are you guys using. Red leaf makes it too messy to eat unless I cram the whole wrap in my mouth at one time.
What am I doing wrong?
