General Discussion / Re: Coconut Oil

I blend it and cream into my coffee every morning, work up to 2TBs but just start with 1-2tsps at first because it can have digestive side effects until you get used to it. It's great for helping with candida overgrowth among many other benefits.

General Discussion / Re: Doctor ordered some tests
« on: July 30, 2013, 12:45:39 AM »
I may do that. All my tests came back normal to excellent. Ugh. There's still something wrong with me! They even checked crp or inflammation and it was nil. I have to look closer at the more thorough thyroid test to be sure what they tested for on that one. I'll let you guys know. So far Ive been feeling much better this week and I even ran tonight, 2 mi. Go figure. They said it all couldn't have been closer to perfect. Ugh. I guess that's good but frustrating at the same time.

That makes sense. When my brother was battling brain cancer they tried an experimental procedure for targeted chemo by giving him insulin to drop his blood sugar (they watched him closely, a dr did this) then when his BS was low enough they gave him an injection of sugar-laced chemotherapy because they said cancer cells love sugar and will draw the sugar into it quickly which means he could have a lower dosage of chemo. It wasn't covered by insurance though.

General Discussion / Re: What did you eat on the 4th?

I totally agree about the crust. I never really liked the crust that much. It seems like cheap filler to me. Prior to my LC ways I would either get the thin crust or pick off the toppings anyways lol. Thank you btw. :) Sometimes eating a little differently than everyone else gets daunting but once I figured out what to eat that was better for me at certain restaurants I know just what to order and just have alternates in mind if I get bored. I like variety! I like FTS because there's so much variety in the recipes and so much amazing creativity to it!

Sides and Snacks / Re: Easy Low Carb Blackberry Preserves

I wish I had such access to berries! Yummy! I would freeze so many! If my property didn't already have a peach tree on it when we bought it I wouldn't have planted it - I would've planted something else because I get so many peaches now I don't know what to do with them all! I certainly won't eat them! Ugh. How hard are raspberries and blackberries to grow? I live in the hot Nevadan desert though...:(  I also ended up with a cherry tree but the birds eat them all before we get any! My husband would at least eat those.

Oh you don't want to know what I put in my coffee then lol. Unsalted butter, heavy cream and coconut oil, mixed in blender. It's basically breakfast on work days - fast and fills me up for hours. Hehe. Don't laugh!

Yeah and he's getting tired of his little beer belly lol. Or maybe he's tired of getting teased about it at work haha. Either reason for his improvement is okay by me lol.

General Discussion / Newbie - Introduction (Sorry, it's Lengthy!)

That's very interesting, Tony! Thank you. :)

I have noticed that if I have a rather high fat meal (or drink) to start my day that I eat less all day. I've been doing that lately and my clothes are looser this week. Hmmm...can't complain! :)

Thank you TabyTaby! I appreciaye your help. :) What foods have oxalates? I will find out more on Monday hopefully as to my problems. I wouldn't have a problem cutting back on protein, I actually keep my protein fairly low and focus on good fats. I noticed I have more joint pain when I have more red meat. I try to stick with good fats, some chicken (I prefer dark meat though), eggs, dairy, and fish (I love sashimi) and colorful veggies. I don't have much dairy though except some cheese occasionally, butter and of course cream. I probably have a bit too much cream but I love it in my coffee. I really love coconut oil and unsalted butter - both go in my morning coffee (blended) with cream. That's basically breakfast for me lately with SF coffee syrup. If my husband knew what I put in my coffee he would think I'd flipped my lid! However I've been losing inches this week! I'm very happy about it!  I'm less hungry all day if I start my day out that way.

That's true! My hygienist was extra quick with my cleaning this time and she's super thorough. ;) That made me happy. She gave me some suggestions of a couple teeth to keep an eye on keeping extra clean between but that was it. That's great progress, this is the second cleaning (I go every 6-months) that has been clear and my X-rays were good. I think I have one residual issue that is staying the same. I had 12 fillings last year! They almost seemed disappointed there wasn't much to do lol.

Now my kids were another matter. My son's teeth are good (he's almost 18 and much more vigilant about his oral hygiene now because he wants his teeth white) but my stepchildren had several cavities each. They're barred from eating so much sugar! Victory for me lol. No more soda in my house. Yay! Problem solved!

Well and if worse comes to worse, have you tired whipping with a whisk? It takes like 10 minutes but once it decides to be whip up fluffy, it just suddenly becomes whipped, one minute it's smooth liquid cream (doesn't even look thicker and you've started to wonder if it will ever be whipped cream) and the next, you're done. The Great Value brand seems to be like that. It's a great arm workout lol. I have done it that way though. It takes some serious patience. Also make sure your bowl, whisk and cream are all very cold, it helps!
