General Questions / Re: The Series: My 600 pound Life
« on: August 11, 2014, 01:52:15 PM »
When I was single I chose not to have a TV in my apartment.  My nephew came over to stay the weekend and freaked out - wondered what we would do all weekend w/o a TV.  I laughed and showed him.  Went for walks, talked, went to a movie, played board games and so forth.

I also started to read more and sew a few things.  Boy, time sure flew by when doing other things other than watching TV.

Now the computer rage/age/disengage from life is around.  It kills me to see a mother walking her child and she is on the phone and holding the kids hand.  It is so sad because they are missing out of communicating to each other.  And so many idiots on the road with the phone in their ear while driving - that's sure is a mistake, especially if you happen to get into an accident and possibly take a life.

I know a teenage who can't put sentences together - his grammar/communications skills.....zero!  What a terrible shame.

So, when I say I don't have internet at home cause I am on it for ten hours a day at work, what I am actually saying is that  I get outside and garden, weed, go for a walk, talk with my husband, make plans ----

This weekend I made the blackberry nut (cobbler or cake - I forget the full correct name) with the cinnemon/nutmeg stressell (sp) on top from your bakery book Doug - Oh my goodness - to die for.  I don't have Zero but used Xylitol instead - just a little bit of it - as I don't like really sweet goodies anymore.  I will try the recipe here, too - as it sounds wonderful.  Thank you all for sharing.

Other than all of the work involved in keeping up a second place, it is very relaxing and beautiful.  We got 5 gallons of water for the composting toilett last weekend.  My husband is going to devise a gutter system, V shape, so the water funnels better into the rain barrel.  Next time we go up.   What joy!

Oh wow - another filter - didn't even think about that option, but we aren't going to drink it - just use for bathing, washing dishes and the composting toilett.  Saves us the walk to the creek.  Not that we are lazy, but there is just so much to do at the cabin site, that we try to minimize the unnecessary time it takes to do this.  Thanks!

My youngest son's favorite side dish is beam sprouts!  To make them the Korean way,  just boil them for a couple of minutes (literally, like 2 or 3 minutes), drain them,  then this with some sesame oil and sea salt to taste.  Super yummy and super easy!

That sounds like a great way to make the sprouts.  Thanks for sharing.

Well, we only collected 4 gallons of water, which we used for our composting toilet this past weekend.  Ken is going to devise a gutter for the rain to gather and then run into the rain barrel.  Thanks for asking.

Tony, I bought the cocunut oil at Walmart for a really reasonable price, too.  I am going to have to bring it to work and use it more often.  Thanks for being such an advocate for the product.  You make us smarter!

Tony - I had to commit myself to reading that very long and extremely informative article.  I have changed my oil to almond oil which i mix with organic apple cider vinegar and a splash of water and add to my salads.  it has a wonderful flavor to it.  i knew about the omega-6s that if you have too much in your body that that isn't good at all for the omega 3s.  Is it true that we don't generate omega 3's in the body but do generate omega's 6's?  Please explain.

And Doug, tooooooooooooooo funny.

And, hi TooSweet - it sure has been long since i noticed a post from you.

Hi Umpa and all of the FTS family - love you all!
