Carb counter website
« on: September 22, 2010, 06:56:52 AM »
Could anybody suggest a good site I can use to find out the net carb count on foods?  (Some people have mentioned an egg has 1g net carbs and the site Im using says they measure 0.6g net carbs...)

Thanks!

If you get 50 posts on the forum you can get a free E-book from Doug and could choose the Fat to Skinny Sugar & Carb Counter E-book download.  If you want to buy it, it is $4.00.

vlinder,

For large eggs, net carbs would be about 0.6 according to the USDA nutrient database (http://www.nal.usda.gov/fnic/foodcomp/search/).

This could be rounded up to 1 gram when in fact 2 large eggs will give you just under 1.2 net carb grams.

beebs,

Doug's number must be rounded up so as to prevent under-counting of net carbs.

Other websites (e.g. http://nutritiondata.self.com/facts/dairy-and-egg-products/117/2) also show one large egg having 1g carb.

When in doubt, I always assume I am eating MORE carbs so I can be sure I'm not getting too many each day. One carb from one egg does not seem like a big deal. But if you were eating a big 4-egg omelet, it could mean the difference of exceeding 20 net grams per day or not. Personally, I only occasionally have 1 hard boiled egg as a snack or maybe 2 in a recipe.

As the old saying goes... "Err on the safe side because it's better to be safe than sorry.".

Doug's Sugar & Carb Counter E-book says .6 per whole egg.
