I know that Doug talks about using them as a substitute for 'Shake & Bake', if they are ground up quite fine and mixed with some spices they would give you a coating for chicken or pork. They might also be used as a basic substitute for bread crumbs, say in hamburger meat when you are making burgers or meat loaf. I bought them to have on hand for when I get a craving for potato chips, I hoped they would satisfy when I felt I needed a salty/crunchy snack.

I found pork rinds at a Metro (A&P, Dominion) store, they were sold in a snack size and I think they were called Bac-uns. I also had some luck finding them at an Asian grocery store, we have quite a few of them here in Ottawa.

I found pork rinds at a Metro (A&P, Dominion) store, they were sold in a snack size and I think they were called Bac-uns but they were nasty, I expected a bacon flavor but it was more like really dried out pork skin (which is what they are essentially). I threw those out and next went to an asian grocery store and found a couple of different brands that were flavored with garlic and bacon. I haven't tried them out yet, but they seem promising.

I live in Ottawa Ontario and there are plenty of health food stores but I have had great success with online ordering from http://www.thelowcarbgrocery.com/ . I found all of the products that Doug mentions in his book and delivery on my first order only took one day. There are also two Whole Food stores in the Toronto area and I believe there is one in Vancouver.

Hi everyone. Well week 2 is done and it has been an interesting one, this morning the scales read 299 lbs, just one pound lost the whole week. I must admit I have been a little frustrated weighing myself this week, I seemed stuck at 300 lbs until Friday. I realized that a couple of things have probably affected my weight loss this week, number one I have been on vacation this week, so until Thursday I'm sure my physical activity has been less than when I am at work. Also being at home though I was still not eating carbs or sugar, I'm pretty sure I have eaten more than the previous week in calories. This weekend I had my first real challenge in fighting cravings to eat some junk food. I think part of the problem was frustration over the minimal weight loss, although I know as someone recovering from other addictions that my mind will think up whatever excuse I need to have me succumb to the craving. I had a fudgecicle and about 20 chips but today is a new day and I start all over with renewed hope.  ;D

Well I'm pretty amazed, I stepped on the scales this morning and was down 10.5 pounds!!  I know most of that is water but I also know from past experience that the fat will start melting off soon too. I am waking up without feeling sluggish, most mornings I have just wanted to roll over and sleep in. Umpa  found a site here in Canada called 'thelowcarbgrocery.com' that seems to have all the products that are mentioned in Doug's book. I ordered tortillas, GG crispbread, Beanit butter and a couple of other products to try out. It was ordered on Thursday and I received it on Friday!
I took a couple of 'before' pictures today, that is how confident I am that this is really going to work. Thanks everyone for your encouraging words and support!  ;D

Thanks for all the encouragement, and thank you Umpa for your offer to help convert recipes, I'll take you up on that offer.  It looks like I may need to use the web for some of the products mentioned in Doug's book, I've done a bit of looking around and the health and natural food stores here in Ottawa seem to be a bit lacking in low carb products. I still have a lot of places to check out though, and right now I'm pretty content eating lean meats, salads, cheese and a low carb protein shake I have.  :D

Hi everyone, I'm new to the site, just bought the downloadable book yesterday. I need to kick my sugar addiction badly and your methods seem to make the most sense. Wish me luck, I'll keep my progress posted.
