Chicken adobo.
« on: September 03, 2012, 12:47:52 PM »
Hi Umpa (and everyone else)!

I was hoping to get some guidance on Bragg's Liquid Amino's. I've been using it to make a common Filipino dish (I'm Filipino) called adobo.

Normally you just marinate chicken in 1/2 cup of soy sauce and 1/2 cup of vinegar. Then you boil it for about 25 minutes.

I've been using Bragg's to replace the soy sauce. The Bragg's label says that there are 100mg of carbs per 1/2 tbsp. Since there are 8 tbsp. in 1/2 cup, my math says that there are 1.6g of carb from the Bragg's.

Is my math correct? Is there anything I should know about Bragg's or counting liquid carbs in general?

Thanks.

Your math looks right.  Was it a good substitute?  Did you like how it turned out?

Hi damooster! :)

Your math, as given, is correct.

Bragg's is well known for its quality.
I've been using Bragg's Apple Cider Vinegar for years and absolutely love it.

Please let us know how the chicken turned out! :) :) :)

Hi damooster! :)

I just went over to Bragg's website to look at this product.
http://bragg.com/products/la.html

The nutrition label says that it has 100 mg carbs per ONE-HALF TEASPOON!
So the total carbs in 1/2 cup would be 4.8.
I would round this to 5 net carbs per 1/2 cup.

If you don't consume the liquid after boiling the chicken, you're only getting a fraction of that.
That is, whatever the chicken absorbed during boiling.

But the good news is that it's still FAR lower than regular soy sauce.
And is FTS-friendly... IF you watch your portions. :) :) :)

Thanks everyone.

The substitute is pretty good. Next time I make this, I'm going to have to mix in some water as it is just too strong as is.
