That's interesting, and you're right, very dangerous for type 1 diabetics.  I had never tried it, it just seemed to be too good to be true.... :D

So then sugar detox should be over in two weeks?  What is the earliest it might be over?  Just curious.

Hi Phatchick -- love the nickname -- used to have really big (over 20 pounds last time he was weighed) cat named "Phatcat".

I read what you posted TWICE.  I'm 60 and my best friend is 55 and she does weight watchers....and yes it is so important not to compare plans or weight loss, etc......if you keep on, you will feel great and the weight will come off.  I LOVED what you said about the "aches and pains" are gone.....that is maybe the one thing that keeps me hanging on is that with this plan after detoxing from sugar my joint aches and pains, my skin itchiness, EVERYthing just feels so much better.  Also a quick weigh to measure yourself is if you have a tight pair of pants, skirt, top, dress, etc., you want to fit into by trying it on when you have lost inches instead of weight you will notice the difference.  I have a pair of "phatpants" jeans I use for that purpose and also a pair of uniform pants that is a size smaller.

Hang in there and give us a post to update us how you are doing....remember that #1 is that having sugar out of our bodies makes is healthier....and that is HUGE!

Stephanie -- read and re-read your response to Phatchick.....lots of great useful info in there....thanks.

Hi Pam -- I do feel your pain....we're in the same boat -- and instead of sympathy I'll give you empathy.....and the kick in the pants is that:  "The train goes nowhere until it leaves the station."

Read and re-read all of the above -- it's what I'm doing also, and I have just become aware that our level of commitment is so important.  What Tony said:

"But it's up to YOU to commit 100% EVERY DAY toward making your goal a reality.
No one else can so that for you"

....that my dear is the cold hard truth for both of us.

I am DELIGHTED you only have 60 pounds to lose, but as Umpa said it so much more than weight loss it's about attaining health and FREEDOM from sugar cravings.....I sense that is what you want to get back to, that freedom from the cravings and the GREAT feeling of being in control of what you eat that FUELS every cell in  your body.

I remember when I was 60 pounds overweight, my advice is to take it off  before it is 70, 80, 90, .....etc. pounds to take off.  I lost 50 pounds last year before I started playing around with the plan and when I let some cares and trials of life take me off track.

Find your level of commitment, be willing to hang in there through the detox part (I'm going through the same thing), do all the things suggested above, and keep posting....Do these things -- you're worth it -- remember how good you feel after you broke through with detox.....that is around the corner for you.......

hang in there gal!

I'm with you Michelle....it's shocking what people serve guests at weddings, charity benefits, parties, etc.  You and hubby did very well to go get what you needed and not succumb to diving face first into all the wedding sugars, breads, etc.

Last year when I first started FTS I went to store and bought a set of ice chests (medium to small) that I use.  I take the medium one to work with my food in it (I travel to my job and sometimes am stuck there for more than 10 hours etc.)....then I have this little chest about purse size that I take everywhere with me.  I put a blue ice in it, and put in some cheese, meat, boiled eggs, celery, dip, etc., whatever I need to eat in case I either get hungry, and there is nothing available, etc.  I've even taken a tuna pouch in my purse, and a little bottle of dressing, ordered a big salad, and discreetly add tuna and my dressing.  I wouldn't do that at a wedding though, but I often eat right a healthy meal RIGHT before I attend something that is going to have the wrong foods availalble.

In the medium size chest I keep a can opener, some stacking little rubbermaid type containers with lids, a small plastic cutting board, utensils, buoullion (sp?) and mug (can be used for soup), decaf teas, Zero sweetener, tuna pouch, salad things, blue ice, small plate, utensils, etc.  Oh, and I do like Diet Rite caffeine free, splenda sweetened diet soda, and usually always have one with me.

When I'm successful this works so well for me because I'm prepared for anything that comes up unexpectedly, and have my foods on hand to sustain me for about one day until I would be able to get to a store.  This is a little trickier to keep cool during the summer when it's hotter, but the blue ice helps it all work.

General Discussion / Let's talk about commitment
« on: May 02, 2014, 03:09:15 AM »
With our various calls for HELP and posting about our struggles, there have been some responsive posts about "commitment".....and this has given me a lot to think about.

For easy reference, here is a recent response from Tony about commitment:

"We all must remember that no matter what else, life will be life... unpredictable.
But if we build a solid commitment and hold on to it like a rock,
when life tosses us a storm (or two), we can get through it.

You mindset is one of success.
That success will become apparent over time... You WILL reach your goal! Smiley Smiley Smiley"

arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!  Have just lost my response post TWICE now, so I'm going to write in MS Word and paste over.....

Okay, I’ve been thinking so much about the word “COMMITMENT” as it applies to healthful LC WOE and in terms of my on-again, off-again “attempts” at staying on FTS plan.  And Tony, when you say, “But if we build a solid commitment and hold on to it like a rock, when life tosses us a storm (or two), we can get through it” you are talking about a major commitment rather than a “Oh, I need to ‘try’ again type of wimpy commitment.  That led to my thinking about some things I went through about 18 years ago that involved some poor decisions that caused me a lot of grief.  I remember the exact moment I made a strong “commitment” of “I will NOT be involved with that anymore.”   That commitment was out of desperation to get my life back together, and over time I have been very happy to have successfully made those changes, and my life has totally turned around as a result -- and of course this is by the grace of God and my firm resolve

It’s like the difference between “true repentance which is a turning away from something” versus a wimpy “oh, I’m sorry, I’ll ‘try’ to do better” type attitude.  And that’s the level of commitment I need now to combat such a longstanding bad habit as “overeating” AND “eating stuff that is toxic/poison even.”

So here is my commitment:  “From this moment, 5-1-14 at 11:57 p.m., I will not eat sugar, flour, rice, sugary fruits, etc., ….the bad junk but will commit to the FTS plan and foods, 100% and I’ll not go back to my old ways anymore, at all, ever.  It’s just too much of a burden in my life and I want to lose the health problems and toxicity that goes with the toxic sugary foods, and instead will embrace healthy eating.”

I don't expect it to be easy nor for there to be temptations, but my mantra 18 years ago to change my life around was "I can do THIS." and again that applies to now, "I can do this."

So, anyone else need to find a time/place and formal commitment?  I guess we just need to sometimes take a stand to “no going back”

Thanks Tony for making the statement that helped me think this out, and thanks FTS family for always being here for us.

Hi, everyone -- I've been reading during the work week, but not able to answer because my "typing" really sucks on the tablet, etc.  I hate some bad shrimp the other night and have been not feeling well.....I really should leave shrimp alone always.

Yes inspiring -- Tony, I really like the first link about your journey....how you were two weeks in and your longing to go fishing again....it's amazing the things we give up when the pounds add on...

And it's amazing and was so helpful to hear your enthusiasm about being two weeks in and losing your sugar cravings...so many of us don't hang in there long enough to really get rid of the cravings....

I don't imagine your journey was perfect or easy, but it is evident from that first post I read that you were very definitely committed to the FTS WOE plan.

It was also inspiring how your health numbers benefitted also.

Hi Julie -- wanted to post that I know what you mean about being very busy, not getting enough sleep, not enough water, too many carbs......all that adds up to feeling very "down".....hope you're doing well.  The posting the food will help.  The gang counted my carbs in condiments about a year ago, and it was SHOCKING how many that added up to be....

hang in there!
