I'm all about saving a dollar whenever I can. The almond flour I bought from netrition was like 10 oz for $7 or $8  I think.....can't remember exactly. Anyway, it was ridiculous in price! Jan told me that netrition is actually cheaper than other suppliers which really blew my mind! Don't know why I didn't think of it sooner, but it just occured to me to buy a large bag of almonds from Sams Club. I think it's like $13 for a 48 ounce bag. Put them in your magic bullet or tribest blender (they are the same but just different manufacturers), and buzz/grind for all of 5 seconds and you will have almond flour at a fraction of the price you will pay for those tiny little 10 oz. bags!!!

Hi all,

I just made a pan of Doug's receipe for Chicken Enchiladas on page 144 of his cookbook which I have downloaded on my computer. Absolutely delicious!  ;D ;D ;D Can anyone tell me please how many carbs are in one of these? I bought a whole chicken already cooked and just took it off the bone. This was a nice time saver. Doug said to use a low sugar enchilada sauce. I found one which was a Kroger brand for 3 carbs for 2 tablespoons. Does anyone know of another brand that's even lower and still taste good? LOL! I used tortillas that were 8 inch and 5 net carbs.

General Questions / Flax Seed question
« on: July 07, 2011, 08:03:13 PM »
I used to make my own bread. I have a Zojirushi bread machine as well as a whisper mill that grinds the grain. I "used" to buy my grain by the 5 gallon buckets with hydrogen seal lids that keep the bugs out and the grain fresh until I get ready to mill it. I always used a little flax seed in my breads as well for the extra fiber. I still have have an almost full 5 gallon container of flax seed. What would be the difference in my grinding it into a flour consistency and using it in my FTS receipes verses buying flax seed meal in a tiny little bag from the grocery and paying a premium for it?  :-\ Isn't it the exact same thing? ??? If so, those of you who like to use flax seed a lot for pancakes and etc....you might be better off to buy it like I do. ;D Check and compare at www.breadbeckers.com  You will also need to make a one time purchase of about $10 (?) for a hydrogen seal lid. I do miss making my own homemade delicious bread  :P More importantly now I've got to lose about 50lbs!  :)

General Questions / Dixie Diner Products Question
« on: July 05, 2011, 11:12:44 PM »
Can anyone tell me please some of your favorite products that you order from dixiediner.com ? I know this is the site Doug said to go to for a low carb corn muffin mix I believe. Their stuff is pricey but if this is the only site to order certain products that will assist me in my weight loss then so be it. I see that through the 7th of July they are offering free shipping on orders of $40 or more. ;D

General Questions / Spagetti Squash ideas?
« on: July 05, 2011, 10:53:55 PM »
Hi all,

I love to put spagetti sauce over spagetti squash. Hubby doesn't like it as well as "real" spagetti noodles but says he will deal with it. The problem now is I haven't been able to find a spagetti sauce with low carbs. I used to use Classico. I think I saw somewhere where Doug put an alfredo sauce over the squash but we didn't like that at all. I bought some spagetti squash just the other day but don't know now what to put on it. Any suggestions? :)

General Questions / Plateaued before even getting started good!
« on: June 28, 2011, 06:58:55 PM »
Hi my new FTS friends,

My friend "maddiesmom" told me about FTS. She has done exceptionally well and I'm SO proud of her. As most of you know she's lost 80 somthing pounds!!! She is an inspiration to me. As for me, I need to lose about 50 pounds, and my husband needs to take off 100lbs. I am an animal lover with 5 dogs and 2 cats. I walk my dogs (yes, all at the same time), about 5 times a week early in the morning before it gets hot. We walk 3 to 4 miles each time. So I get an ample amount of exercise I think. As for the diet, we have ditched the sugar, white flour, bread, potatoes, etc.......Funny how with the "replacements" we haven't missed the old things. We love the creamed cauliflower just as much as the creamed potatoes, and eating the sugar free deserts occasionally instead of the sugary stuff. Soft drinks have never been an issue because we really don't like the sugar ones (too sweet), or the diet ones because they leave such a nasty after taste. Instead, we just drink water or crystal light (lots of flavors to choose from too). Went to the doctor for a check up today and he told me that I definitely have the exercise down, but that evidently I'm still eating too much food. I'm doing a heck of job at maintaining at 192 or 193, but that's not the goal here. By the way, I'm 5'6" We have been "doing" the FTS lifestyle for about a month now. Maybe it's not enough time to start losing yet. I guess I also need to think about cutting back on the food even more than I have.

General Questions / Tortilla Carb Count Question
« on: June 26, 2011, 10:52:59 AM »
Hi Everyone,

My husband and I have been eating lunch on Saturday in our town of Gainesville for about a year now because they have $1 tacos. They aren't skimpy on their ingredients either. It has been a really good and "cheap" meal for us. They offer both crunchy shell or the 6" soft shells. We have always got the soft shells. The filling is pretty basic with grilled chicken, lettuce, cheese, and about 2 tablespoons of black beans. They have about five or six different salsas at their salsa bar to choose from. I have always got the green tomatoe one. Of course it comes with a basket of deep fried nacho chips that are THE best! Does anyone know the carb count of their little 6 inch soft shell tortiallas? Their website lists nutritional information for their complete burritos but it isn't broken down by ingredients. Anyway, yesterday as always we went there. We brought our own tortillas with us this time which are actually the Josephs brand pita bread with only 4 net carbs. Hubby ate a couple and I ate one. They were nice enough to put "our" bread on their steamer and fill em up for us. Oh, and we drink water but sometimes carry the little packets of crystal light to put in the water. How bad can this be??? We have just started this way of eating and I want to do the "right" thing. Any comments or suggestions will be appreciated!
