Product Reviews / Walden Farms
« on: July 16, 2014, 01:37:56 PM »
I just love the Walden Farms Pasta Sauce! Now if they could could come up with a Curry Sauce.....I would be one happy camper!!! :) :) :)

The coleslaw dressing is really good as well. I have some of their other products I have yet to try, but so far I'm impressed.  :)

I'm in the process of making my pantry carb and sugar free, or as near to it as I can get!  ;D ;D  Of course it will be an ongoing process, but I will get everything replaced at some point.  ;)

General Discussion / A question on Miracle Noodle - Miracle Rice
« on: July 16, 2014, 01:32:55 PM »
Considering ordering some Miracle Rice, the bags hold 2.3 servings. In the spirit of being budget conscious. I would want to only use one serving per meal. Now the question is, what is the best way to store the unused portion until the next day?

General Discussion / Success is Measured in Many Small Steps!
« on: July 04, 2014, 12:06:45 PM »
Happy 4th of July :)

My journey with FTS began again on June 22, 2014 after I received the shocking diagnosis of Type 2 Diabetes. I told the Doctor flat out I would out take any meds, that I would control this with diet and exercise. And so my journey began.........

I cut my carb intake with a vengeance. As a result my Blood Glucose readings are in the normal range 88-120 daily. However, I will continue to test daily because I really do not want to be caught up in a high carb fog again!

At my first weigh in after I started my Lifestyle change I had lost 4 lbs, not a big loss, but to me any loss is a win!:) I'm due to weigh again tomorrow. My clothes are loose, and I have a pair of crop pants I can no longer wear out in public :

I was on the Walden Farms website yesterday and ordered myself some goodies, and am looking forward to receiving those!

My energy level is through the roof! I love every minute of it!. Now I actually have the energy to continue writing my novel...now I have high hopes that I will reach my goal and have 6 books published my the end of 2014! :)

The moral of this story is, this is not a race, more of a steady trott. Every step you take, a pound lost, a lower reading on your diabetic test meter is a big win for you. You are a Winner! :) :)

Lean On My Shoulder / Embarassed....but back to face the music!
« on: June 21, 2014, 07:56:08 AM »
Well here I am, and this time I'm going to stay the course!!!!!

Went to the Doctors on Thursday for my semi-annual check-up, and the first question the nurse asked was...."did anyone call you about the blood work that was done at your last checkup?" That would be no. "Is there a problem?"
Oh.."I'll have Deb the PA discuss it with you."

To cut a long story short 6 months ago by blood sugar reading was 281, and my A1C was 8.3 and nobody called me about it! The first thing Deb said to me was "Renee` you have diabetes."

I was devastated to say the least. I told her I was not taking any medication that if that were the case I would work to control it with diet and exercise. She agreed unless of course that didn't work because my pancreas wasn't working as it should. :'(

So this morning I did 2 circuits of the local park before 6am. I only took my BP pill with a sip of water before I headed out. On my return I tested my blood sugar...<sigh> the reading was 209....so yes I have a problem!  :-[

I have a followup appointment in September, she is giving me 3 months to see if I can get this under control, if not she wants me on medication.  :(

I now have a notebook living on my island in the kitchen, and am making a note of every carb to pass my lips. People who know me, know I absolutely hate having to measure and count carbs or calories of any kind BUT the line has been drawn in the sand so to speak, and I have to take action!  :)

So I'm back owning up and joining with people who understand about SUGAR!

I tried to make my daughter understand about cutting white carbs out of my life, but she just doesn't get it.....she just kept saying, "you can't cut complete food groups out of your life...you won't stick to it!" Of course she doesn't understand the 20 carbs a day principle. I didn't explain that to her or she would have started another rant!

Anyway I'm back and in it for the long haul.

General Discussion / The Results Are In!
« on: June 18, 2013, 06:01:13 AM »
Well guys I now know why it has been such a struggle for me to try and lose weight!  I have been diagnosed with "Fatty Liver Disease."  My doctor was quite happy to send me off and treat me as a diabetic.  He was going to treat the symptom and not the cause.  So I did my research and found out that this disease is in fact reversible, and when my liver is healed everything else will fall into place.  At present my liver is a fat storing machine instead of a fat burning machine!

But what really blew my mind was a call I received from  Diabetic Education yesterday because I had canceled my appointment.  The nurse left a message that they were very upset I had canceled the appointment and I needed to make another one because treating my "diabetes" was far more important than trying to heal my liver.  She said and I quote "your liver is not important!"

So today I am starting juicing....I will be eating the rainbow....plenty of raw veggies, and drinking raw vegetable juices.  Cutting carbs as usual, but with much more success once my liver is burning fat instead of storing it!

General Discussion / Okay another 1lb. down.....
« on: May 22, 2013, 12:33:04 PM »
Well I couldn't resist I hopped on the scale to see I had lost another pound...not earth shattering, but it's better than a pound gained.

Now this is where the rubber meets the road....I have realized after reading the book again that I have not been counting the carbs in my eggs....boo hoo...Soooooooo I have decided on a meal plan that will keep me full and stay within the 15 or lower carb range to see how I fare with that.

I fully intend to make the Golden Flaxseed Bread looks really good, and I like the comment that it's filling.  I will be ordering FTS Zero, but until I do can I put Stevia in the place of the zero until I'm able to order it?

Also I made the Savory Base for use with Tuna, Chicken salad etc, and it was really great.  What a difference it made from just ordinary mayo. I couldn't believe how tasty it was.

Going to go through the Bakery Book and pull all the recipes that interest me and put them in a special folder for easy access.  I also put a cheat sheet on the fridge...now...now...by cheat sheet I mean a list of all the raw veggies I like with the  carb and sugar info so I can check stuff at a glance.  No more guessing for me.

When I buy frozen veggies I'll just do the calculations from the labels on the bag, is that ok? :)

Smiling all the way!!!! :) :)

General Discussion / Fell of the Wagon
« on: May 15, 2013, 06:41:37 AM »
Hey Guys,

I'm ashamed to say I started with good intentions, BUT fell by the wayside!

Now you could say the rubber meets the road...have felt so tired for many months and on my 6 monthly check up I asked the Doc if I might need an Iron supplement.  On looking at my last blood work results, which were good....he thought maybe I needed a sleep study...which I shot down in flames....I wanted blood work done, so he ordered a full panel.  Got a phone call from the Doc's office the next day....he want's further blood work done WHAT!!!!  A1C, Some kind of test re: my Iron and a full Hep Panel plus an appointment with the Diabetic Education dept....Whoa...my blood glucose was 200 and my cholesterol was sky high.....SO I dug out my FTS stuff and found the calculation for carbs to sugar...now my pantry is empty, and I have to shop!  I know you can control and often eliminate Diabetes with diet and exercise because I do not want to take pills or god forbid insulin. So my path is set.  This whole mess could have been avoided had I stuck with FTS in the first place.  I guess this is Mother Natures way of giving me a wake up call to get my lifestyle changes in place before it's too late.

So my question is how much sugar is allowed per day?  Is it 5 teaspoons tops?

My FTS Fast and Easy must have been lent out, I have all the other books, but that is MIA. And I am sure the answer to the above question is in that book.

So give me a kick in the butt guys and send me on my way!  :'(

Glad to report another 4lbs lost.......found out what my problem was.

I know we don't bother counting calories with this lifestyle change, but I just couldn't
understand why as strict as I was with the carbs I wasn't losing as I should.

Mystery solved...I counted the calories as well as the carbs, and discovered I was
eating under a 1000 calories a day.  My body went into famine mode and was holding
onto the fat!!!  I increased my calorie intake while maintaining my 20 carbs per day,
and the weight started to come off.

General Discussion / Carb Counts
« on: September 03, 2011, 08:56:41 AM »
I have both the FTS Cookbook and the FTS Bakery Book.  I  would like to work out the carb counts
on the recipes so I can plan my meals at a glance.  Is there an easy way for me to do this?

Also, I changed my lifesyle to FTS on August 9th, but have only lost 6lbs to date. I have noticed
that many members are losing much more......apart from my body NOT wanting to give up it's
precious fat cells, am I possibly doing something wrong???

Does everyone count the carbs of every meal?  I do and have never gone over
20.  As a matter of fact I usually only have about 16 per day.

« on: August 19, 2011, 10:47:02 AM »
I started my FTS journey on August 9th.  I weighed in at 243.2 pounds, I was sure that all 3 of my cats had their paws on the scale, but unfortunately they didn't....DARN!

Now I have tried every diet under the sun, the last being the Atkins, which surprisingly did not work very well for me. Of course I didn't know about the hidden sugar in foods at that point. However, after a month I lost less that a pound. Very upsetting.

Since my initial weigh-in on the 9th, I haven't been near the scale.  I have written down every carb that has passed my lips since I started.  I wasn't going to get weighed again for at least a month, but have since decided that I had better change that in case I'm not doing as well as I should be, so I will get weighed again tomorrow morning, and post the results on the forum.  Hopefully I will see a loss, if not will be asking for advice, and have Dough take a look at my food journal.

Watch this space......
