Title: Breaking Plateaus with Fiber?
Post by: mouseissue on November 06, 2010, 03:32:30 PM
I may have stumbled upon something that may help break plateaus without adding a single net carb.

I recently started paying attention to the amount of fiber I get everyday.
Most veggies high in fiber also have at least some net carbs but I wanted to add fiber without net carbs.

Although I get an average of 31 grams of fiber a day from what I eat (according to FitDay.com), I supplement that with 4 caps of psyllium fiber 3 grams each (twice a day, morning and night) for an added 12 grams per day (43 grams daily total).
I started this last Tuesday 11/02/2010.

My weight was on a plateau for the last week and a half of October and first week of November.
But today, the scale says I lost 1.6 pounds!!!  ;D ;D ;D

I also noticed since I added the extra fiber that I now have "regular" BMs.
Before the added fiber, not so much.

I remember beebs asking; "HOLY POOP!!! Where did Gary (Katary) go?" after he submitted a recent "after" picture.
And Doug responded, "That's exactly where Gary went..... Holy Poop!".

I'm hope adding fiber will minimize future plateaus.
At least it's helping to keep me regular!  ;)

Hi gang!  :)

We all know the importance of getting plenty of fiber in our diets for weight loss (http://www.fattoskinny.com/) and good health.
Here's a web page that does a great job describing all the benefits of taking psyllium fiber.

http://www.umm.edu/altmed/articles/psyllium-000321.htm (http://www.umm.edu/altmed/articles/psyllium-000321.htm)

Since my last post about this (below) on 11/06/2010, I have lost another 2.4 pounds!
The psyllium really seems to be working!  ;D ;D ;D

hey everyone:) hows it going? I've been absent from class:( but Tony's thread just caught my eye.... i have to tell you all that since I've been maintaining my weight the only thing that i have been concerned with is eating low carb foods...... i have not been the least bit concerned with portion control or with when i eat ...... generally i just snack low carb thru the day and eat as much low carb food as i desire in the evening ...... i also have ended my day with breyers carb smart ice cream each nite..... and i have yet to gain a single pound.. i think that once your body adjusts to your new person that as long as you eat low carb you'll be safe and stay where you are at!!!!! it was cool today i met a person that i hadn't seen for at least 15 years and they commented on how they didn't recognize me because i had lost so much weight.... but when i last saw them i was actually at least 50 lbs lighter than i was when i started FTS:) bottom line it is a breeze to stay at your new weight so long as you have the mindset that you will not allow yourself to slide back into your old way of life..... i apologize for not having time like i used to,but i literally work all week m-f and well i spend the weekends with family:) it feels good to be able to contribute to society again.....but i feel like i am letting my FTS family down in some way:( now i am rambling on......just wanted to say i love you guys/gals and also wish you all the best of luck in your journey to good health and a longer life with your loved ones!!!! c ya peace out!

Katary, you are not letting us down.  The point of you having a new life is to live it to the fullest.  We just appreciate you checking in with us once in a while to let us know that maintaining your weight loss (http://www.fattoskinny.com/) has been no problem.  I find it so inspirational to hear this.  When I started eating the FTS way, I was hoping it would be something that I could incorporate into every day life and you obviously have done this.  So thanks for dropping in to visit the "family", a short visit is better than none at all.

Hello Gary!  :)

You are living the life we all hope to achieve. It's nothing to apologize for.
Spending your life with those you love is nothing short of wonderful.

Like Shihtzumom1 says, your occasional visit with us sharing your experiences as the "new you" helps keep the rest of us inspired and hopeful of a lifelong transformation into "new" people. That not only are our goals reachable, but they are maintainable with a very pleasant low-carb lifestyle.

The reason I started consuming more fiber (psyllium to be exact), is that my regularity was getting a bit "irregular".
I believe losing extra weight is a nice side-benefit.
But I do not place the emphasis for weight loss (http://www.fattoskinny.com/) on fiber.

Like you, I firmly believe that limiting my net carb intake is what is most responsible for my weight loss (http://www.fattoskinny.com/).
You my friend are living proof of that!  :)

God bless you and your family pal!
Looking forward to hearing from you again soon!

Tony

Title: Re: Breaking Plateaus with Fiber? - Psyllium Update
Post by: mouseissue on December 17, 2010, 05:27:07 PM
Psyllium Update....

Since I started taking fiber supplements (psyllium husk capsules) back on 11/2/2010, I've lost 7 pounds.

See post at: http://fattoskinny.net/index.php?topic=1462.msg13321#msg13321 (http://fattoskinny.net/index.php?topic=1462.msg13321#msg13321) for the start of this experiment.

At this time, I can't say that extra fiber has helped to speed my weight loss (http://www.fattoskinny.com/) (except for the first 2 weeks in F2S, I've always been a slow loser), it seems to have reduced the number of weight loss (http://www.fattoskinny.com/) "stalls" and has made my regularity much better.

CONCLUSION: Although fiber may (or may not) help you break plateaus or lose weight (http://www.fattoskinny.com/) any faster, it can't hurt and is very good for you in terms of reducing bad cholesterol, lowering blood sugar, dramatically reducing colon cancer risk, and improving regularity.

Merry Christmas To You All!  :) :) :)

Hi Audra! :)

I take Metamucil brand capsules every day for my psyllium fiber.

But you can get it from many sources.

Check Amazon.com;

Hi Thinisin! :)

Fiber is a carb... But it's one kind of carb that doesn't count toward the 20 per day.

Start with what's recommended on the package (or bottle).
You can always adjust up or down depending on your individual needs.

I've discovered that on those days when I need a bit more "help", I'll eat an OMM, too.
OMM is a miracle food! ;D
