Title: The Series: My 600 pound Life
Post by: ereino on May 28, 2014, 01:36:40 PM
Has anyone watched the Series - My 600 Pound Life?  These people get the gastric bypass...do a lot of sugar dumping....get frustrated at the new lifestyle which is actually eliminating the sugar and when able, begin to exercise, then quit.  The doctor on the show seems to be somewhat strict and says that about 5% of the people actually are successful.  It's even more sad when the spouses are not very supportive.

The doctor tells them to loose about 30 pounds one month prior to their next visit.  So, some do lose the 30 pounds.  Then he will consider them for the bypass.  Isn't it funny that they have shown themselves that they can lose the weight but still go through the bypass.

There is a segment on FTS forum that I believe stated that you actually loose so many years of life by getting this dangerous procedure done.

This one lady would drink carbonated soda, even though she was told that it would be painful, it would stretch her stomach, and prohibit weight loss (http://www.fattoskinny.com/).  Even though she would go through a certain amount of pain, she said It wouldn't last long and that she was giving herself a reward, as she had just gone though an exercise training session.

So, my question is, is this the reason why these folks put the weight all back on.....they get used to the pain, the vomiting, and struggle through it and essentially have a painful workaround to get fat again?

This gal was eating tuna and avocado - I was so proud of her, as that is what I will have for lunch.  But, her husband was verbally abusive and she had to plow her way though a lot of emotional barriers around him.  He likes fat woman, so her losing the weight wasn't on his agenda for her.

Thought I would pass along one of my thoughts for the day.

Hi, Ellie! :)

All the surgery in the world does NOT heal an addiction to sugar.
Addicts will ALWAYS gravitate toward the object of their addiction.

So people who are fortunate enough to survive surgery without major complications (or worse)
will still eat too many carbs.
The carbs may be a bit more concentrated to compensate for the lower volume.

What gets me is that they all manage to loose weight before their procedures, so they can do it.  It just seems to me they want an easy pass (though it really isn't).

You would think that doctors are intelligent enough to realize that if they put their
patients on  low-carb diets in the first place, they could save them from the risks involved in surgery.

But since the AMA (American Medical Association), and other large fraternal groups of halthcare providers
actually believe that low-carb lifestyles are not healthy, many doctors fall prey to that thinking.
And of course, a greedy surgeon here and there does NOT help matters, either! >:(

All so true - all of your notes.  These doctors, especially the "My 600 Pound Life" - the older doctor on this show --- it's all about being of TV, the fame, the money.  The fact that they can lose weight (http://www.fattoskinny.com/) w/o the bypass troubles me that the doctor would then put them through the surgery.

well, not to sound redundant, i use the web at work during lunch time, as we cancelled our internet at home since we weren't using it, at all.  i am on ten hours a day at work and that's quite enough for me.  so, no pdf books for me sorry to say.  but, that's okay - i am good with that.

So, currently, i am eating tuna/one squeezed lime; almonds with a drizzle of a combination of walnut oil/organic apple cider vinegar/splash water and putting this concoction in leafy boston lettuce.  also cooked up a one minute muffin, cut in 4 slices and toasted with real butter.  just so yummy.

One sign of getting older... not understanding what younger folks are talking about!
I'm a retired IT professional. And I still must go out of my way to keep up with the new tech terms. :D

:D Its just not important to me Tony! I see my kids wasting alot of time on electronics and I dont get it.When I was growing up computers didnt exist, we had second jobs. ;) I think technology is a double edged sword.I wonder if people realize how much of their time they spend surfing the web.

When I was single I chose not to have a TV in my apartment.  My nephew came over to stay the weekend and freaked out - wondered what we would do all weekend w/o a TV.  I laughed and showed him.  Went for walks, talked, went to a movie, played board games and so forth.

I also started to read more and sew a few things.  Boy, time sure flew by when doing other things other than watching TV.

Now the computer rage/age/disengage from life is around.  It kills me to see a mother walking her child and she is on the phone and holding the kids hand.  It is so sad because they are missing out of communicating to each other.  And so many idiots on the road with the phone in their ear while driving - that's sure is a mistake, especially if you happen to get into an accident and possibly take a life.

I know a teenage who can't put sentences together - his grammar/communications skills.....zero!  What a terrible shame.

So, when I say I don't have internet at home cause I am on it for ten hours a day at work, what I am actually saying is that  I get outside and garden, weed, go for a walk, talk with my husband, make plans ----

Hi, Ellie! :)

You have a very good lifestyle.
I don't watch much TV or spend much time on the web as I have so many other
things to do around my property.

There's nothing like fresh air most every day.
Between that and the added activity, I sleep like a baby. ;D
