Getting started

Ok so here we go---   I'm a 63 year old truck driver who all most didn't pass my last DOT physical. I was told by the doc that if I didn't lose 35 to 40 pounds of my 255 lbs. By next year I might lose my commercial drivers license. That was 6 months ago.   How much have I lost?  13 lbs not gonna make it at that rate.
    So I heard about fts on the radio and ordered the e books from Doug .  Problem -couldn't get them on my IPad without a computer.  Got cought in a down powre and soaked the lap top  yep smoked it!
   So I e mailed Doug and ask if  I could use the money invested on the ebooks and get a hard cover instead.  His reply -of coarse.  Will mail it out Monday,   Was at the house when I got home at the end of the week. 
    Thanks Doug, I appreciate it. 
         Red the book and got started last Sunday.  Still making lots of mistakes but Am gradually working towards getting it right.  Portion control and getting the carbs to 20 or less.  Kinda hard being out on the road all week but I do have a frig and microwave in the truck so that helps.  Love the web site it will help a lot!

Haha pretty good, Andrea! Welcome, indeed, Larry! With a microwave and fridge, you've got it made! Check out some recipes here and see what fits. You can cook things when you're home and take them on the road. There are ways to eat while traveling, too, so you're set! Good luck! Look forward to hearing from you now and again!

Welcome...welcome :) On the road I can eat low carb all day long. Flying J has sooooo many choices! For you the most important thing is to learn your choices... you'll be ok...lean on us and learn to spot the sugar.

Welcome to the FTS family, Larry!!! :) :) :) :) :) :)

Having a microwave and fridge on your truck makes things a lot easier.
Just make up a week's worth of meals on your day off.
Package them in Ziploc bags and microwavable plastic containers.

Also rely on easy snacks like hard boiled eggs, string cheese, pepperoni sticks, nuts, etc..

We'll help you get the rest of that weight off! ;D

Welcome!  I too am somewhat new at  FTS and I also in my 60s.  I am still making mistakes but everyone here is extremly helpful and together we will lose the unwanted pounds and be sugarfree!!  Glad to have you, keep in touch.  FYI once you start doing without the sugar and the carbs you FEEL SO MUCH BETTER 8)

Welcome Larry,

You have received the best of the best here from FTS folks.  Glad to hear from Doug that Flying J has some good choices as we will be stopping at those when we travel with our camper this year.  You'll find that eating on the go isn't as hard as I thought it might be.  Look for meats without sauces, broiled, grilled and blackened are great with steamed veggies as a side (watch the portion size).  Remember that your server can be your best friend..just explain that you are cutting out sugar and carbs..ask what comes on the salad, what do you put on that, etc.  Tell them to leave off what is not FTS friendly and you'll do great.

I am Umpa,Dougs wife.I have a  column on the homepage called ask umpa where I can convert your favorite foods to fat to skinny friendly.If i can help you please ask.With a microwave you can make alot of recipes.The OMM will be great for you.Make them with goldenflax and you will be full all day.You can do this and we are gonna help you.No worries ;)

Home for a couple of days---  hit the scale this morning and was afraid I would not see any loss due to to large portions and carb count.   My highest weight was 255 and at the start of fts last week end was 243.
 Even with mistakes made, today--------  240--------   I'll take it!!!!!! :)
