Desserts and Sweets / Re: A Strawberry/Cherry Flavored Shake
« on: July 20, 2011, 05:06:07 PM »
I had the Smuckers 0 carb topping.  I had used it two times previous but it just didn't give it that "strawberry" pop that I was expecting (my hubby even said it needed more strawberry flavor) BUT the jello did the trick for me.  I am going to go online to find the sugar free hersey's strawberry since local store don't carry it here.

Congratulations, looks like you have come a long way already!  Your idea of short term goals is what I had thought about doing; 10 pounds and then another 10 pounds.  Thanks for confirming that is the way to go.

It certainly is an eye opener once you DO realize the difference.  I have been on "diets" all of my life; from the old Diet Center, Atkins, Weight Watchers; all of them.  I have heard for years that "carbs change to sugar" once consumed; but really never looked at the labels until now.  I recently gave away ALL my boxes of  brand new unopened pastas.  The carbs per serving were over the top and I knew there wasn't anyway that I was using them.

As I mentioned in another post since starting 2 weeks ago today I have reorganized my pantry and refrigerator.  My pantry shelves have a high carb, medium carb, low carb and zero carb section now.  Also did this in the refrigerator.  I am loving it.

One day with folks like all of you "they will get it"!

I stood for hours reading labels on all the ones in the store and couldn't justify buying any others.  Give me any suggestions for additions or substitutions.  Anything to inhance our taste buds lol!

Product Reviews / Re: Walden Farms thick n spicy bbq sauce

Thanks to TooSweet this will always be in my pantry on the "0" carbs shelf.  Pretty soon I won't have a "high" carb shelf.  Those are the ones I can't reach anymore lol.  I rearranged the pantry by high, medium, low and zero carbs.  Told the hubby "don't touch".

I was having shrimp and didn't have any cocktail sauce that wasn't high in carbs on hand.

The following satisfied me and now have 2 batches in the fridge.

2 Tblspns SF ketchup (Heinz) (2 net carbs)
1/2 tsp French's yellow mustard (0 net carbs)
1/4 tsp Horseradish Sauce (Woeber's Sandwich Pal <1g per tsp) (<1 net carb)
1/8 tsp garlic powder
1/8 tsp onion powder
1/4 tsp liquid smoke

I mixed all the ingredients in a small bowl and divided it into 2 small containers.  It doesn't look like very much in the container but you will be surprised how many shrimp you can dip and have "shrimp cocktail".  Since I split the amount into 2 servings I counted it as 1.5 net carbs to be safe.

Desserts and Sweets / A Strawberry/Cherry Flavored Shake
« on: July 18, 2011, 12:52:05 PM »
This is a variation of the "Chocolate Milkshake" taken from the original recipe taken from this forum.

1 cup SF Vanilla Almond Milk (1 net carb)
1/4 cup heavy cream (0 net carbs)
1 Tblsp Torani SF Caramel Syrup (.5 net carb)
1 tsp xylitol (0 net carb)
1 tsp strawberry extract
1 tsp SF strawberry powdered Jello mix (0 net carb) (I used Cherry because I didn't have strawberry)

Put the SF strawberry powdered Jello in last because it starts to jell once it lits the liquid.  Blend all the ingredients then add 2-3 ice cubes and blend again.  Enjoy.  This shake is 1.5 net carbs but the flavor was yummmmmmmy.

Next time I make this I will try Walden Farm's SF Pancake Syrup which is 0 net carbs for 1/4 cup, which will decrease carbs back to 1 for whole shake.  Using different extract flavors and different SF Jello flavors this might open up several new flavors for a low carb shake.

Thanks to TooSweet for suggestion to use SF Jello mix to increase the "flavor" needed since strawberry extract wasn't enough the first trial run!

General Questions / portion size on zero carb foods
« on: July 10, 2011, 12:00:08 PM »
In buying products that are zero carb the portion varies, of course.  If the portion on the label is zero carbs for 1 teaspoon, example Nathan's original coney island mustard; does the carb count increase if you eat 3 teaspoons?  This is also true of the sauerkraut I purchased, the serving size is 2 tablespoons for 1 g carb and 1 g fiber = net zero carb; but if you eat more than 2 tablespoons what happens? :-\

I am an ex Weight Watcher and their rule was if you eat more than one portion of anything in one day that the "points" increased substantially which in turn decreased your weight loss.

I just started this week and have already lost 3 LBS  ....  YEAH :o
