Just wanted to let yall know
« on: August 29, 2012, 07:09:48 AM »
We have used the  Carbquick off and on for awhile  not for breakfast . I would just make some of the cheddar biscuits for supper .
Well I made some for breakfast the other morning they were 1 carb per small biscuit Tyler ate 3 with a egg . His sugar was 114  when he woke up and he took one unit of his insulin  2 hours later he was 170 !!!!! 8)  ???
So I said well no more of those he said man those were good let me try in the morning one more time and if i am high again I will never eat them again so I said ok .

Well the next morning he was 108 took 1 unit again ate 3 biscuits again and 1 1/2  later his sugar was 207 !!!!!!

So in the garbage it went and the FTS Type 1 Guinea Pig said NO CARBQUICK FOR ME  :P
maybe it will not do this for others but I have found what raises Tyler's blood sugar raises mine maybe not as high as his but raises it never the less .
Just thought yall  might want to know this .

Here's the Carbquick ingredient list;

Ingredients: Carbalose™ flour (enzyme enriched wheat, vital wheat gluten, wheat fiber, high-protein patent wheat flour, soy fiber, canola oil, salt, emulsifiers, enzymes, ascorbic acid, calcium propionate), palm and palm-kernel oil, buttermilk powder, baking powder, egg white powder, lecithin, salt, natural flavors.

On occasion I've been asked if adding fiber to a recipe would negate the carbs and my answer is always NO. You can't get around carbs they are what they are. The natural fiber within the natural food is the only fiber which will negate the effects of that particular foods carbohydrate count.  We've seen this same thing over and over with processed "low carb" labeled products. ALWAYS check the ingredient list and if you see  :o :o ingredients which you know are carbs then avoid using that product.

If you want good biscuits, pancakes, muffins, breads etc... Use the recipes in the FAT TO SKINNY Sugar Free Bakery book. Golden Flax Meal, Almond Flour, Hazelnut Flour and Soy flour are the bases for these recipes NO STARCH  ::) ::)

See the book here- http://www.shop.fattoskinny.com

We've had that stuff for almost four months. Everything I make with it has this funky grainy taste. My son loves the pancakes and we haven't had any trouble with gaining weight eating it, but it's just kind of nasty.

That's good to know, Jo! :) :) :)

I was going to buy this stuff. But I noticed that one of the first ingredients is "enzyme enriched wheat".

Wheat (of any kind) is one of those "RED FLAG" ingredients that will stop me from buying a product.
If it's listed as one of the first three ingredients, back on the store shelf it goes.

This proves that when reading nutrition labels, it's VERY important to also read ingredients lists.
Like to old saying goes... The devil is in the details! :o

I think that  is kinda like the sugar  alcohols as a diabetic we were told any amount over 6 has to be counted as carbs so it makes the RS candie not so easy to eat  for Tyler he would have to count those 2 pieces as almost 12 carbs .
The time that he has ate them it make his sugar high if he does not take a shot

Cause you want something sweet  ::) Sugar free gum, small sugar free hard candies, a cookie or 2 from the FTS bakery book collection, a cup of coffee or tea with Zero are all good decisions. We always have cookies in the freezer so I can pop one in my mouth when I NEED sweet. This time of year I love Fall Spice Balls  8)

This is the email response I got from Carbquick ,as you can see they will never admit a problem just like Julian's bakery

Dear Robert,
Our product has been independently tested by an outside lab and the
nutritional information and net carb count are correct.  We have many
diabetic customers and work with Doctors in the U.S. and abroad who promote,
purchase, and sell the mix in their offices and businesses.

There are many factors that could have been involved in the blood
sugar readings your son experienced.  The size of the biscuit, for example.
We certainly understand your concern and are glad you took the time to
e-mail us.  I can tell you we get phone calls and e-mails daily from loyal
diabetics that use the product without any problem and can't imagine living
without it.
I should send one back that said whatever  LOL

Hi Jo! :)

This was a noble effort, Jo.
But the response is no surprise... A product seller defending their product.

No two of us are alike. And although we all suffer with insulin resistance problems,
some of us will be more sensitive than others.

My observation is that their product has adversely effected everyone here who has tried it.
They should at least acknowledge that their product CAN cause spikes in SOME people.

The bottom line is, we know that a carb is a carb no matter how you dress it up.
With that knowledge, we know how to avoid things that can mess us up. :) :) :)
