Title: Shopping ...
Post by: Rena on April 23, 2011, 05:32:17 PM
I've been in a real >:( mood lately because of clothes. The :) part is that I've lost 5 more pounds since I started keeping track of my food intake. My 'goal' has been to fit into some of my old clothes that I've been saving since the mid-90s. But as we're talking about in some other threads, some of those old clothes are just way too high waisted. By the time the waist fits me, the rear and front is really baggy.

We're going to Disney World next month and I've been putting off buying any new clothes because I wanted to fit into my old ones. That wasn't happening -- at least not in the right bodily places. Since I'm such a tightwad, I went to the Salvation Army and tried on a bunch of shorts today. I'm happy to say I bought 6 pairs of really cute shorts ... that are in style even! :D I also got 8 tank tops to mix & match with them. For everything, I spent about $38. Had I gone to a regular store, I might have been able to get 1 or 2 pairs at the most. And, if I lose more weight and these become too big on me, I'm not out as much. I still have to splurge on a new swimsuit. Mine looks idiotic because it's so baggy.

However, the best part of this long, boring story is that I was finally able to shop in the misses section and not the women's. I haven't done that in years! And to top it off, everything I tried on FIT or was too big! I was wearing a size 14 jeans today and all the shorts I bought are 12s, some closer to 11. If I lose more weight before my trip, I could get into an 11 or maybe even 10, but I didn't want to take any chances of not having anything to wear as the trip gets closer. It was just a really good feeling to be able to try something on and have it fit well.

:)  :)  :)  :)

You are getting so close to your goal.  I am so happy for you!  It is time for you to invest in a belt.

What a DEAL Rena!   I am a thrifty shopper too!  We have a neat little consignment shop here in town that I love!  I got a pair of black Liz Claiborne jeans last week for $6.  Good deals put me in a good mood! ha ha

I love thrift stores! I wear the clothes then donate them back when they are too big or I don't want to wear them anymore! ;) ;)

During my weight loss (http://www.fattoskinny.com/) I was in and out of the Goodwill and Salvation Army stores every two weeks! What I had bought just two weeks earlier was brought back and re-donated as I bought a smaller size.  :o

No sense in spending money at pricier stores when you know your size is constantly changing.

When you reach your goal, you can treat yourself to more expensive clothes.
Until then, don't waste your money!
Use the savings buying low carb foods and recipe ingredients. ;)

Thanks, everyone. I went again and got two pairs of capris. One of them was a petite size and it actually FIT me! I have NEVER worn anything in a petite size!

I took clothes in to donate too, and have another bag waiting to go. Some of the ones in this bag were big, baggy clothes I got from the thriftstore in the first place. I'm sending them home.  :D

I was also able to find my bathing suit top in a smaller size, so I took the bigger one back and made an exchange. I can't remember the last time I had to get a size smaller, not larger.  :)

Whoa. I bought 2 new bras today and they're 2 sizes smaller than my old ones.

This might not be a big deal to some, but it is to me. I can finally shop in the regular department when it comes to stuff like this. No more PUP TENT BRAS!  ;D

Although I can't relate to the bra thing... It comes down to the pleasure we feel buying "normal" size clothes.
That's universal!!! ;D ;D ;D

Thanks, everyone. It's just the weirdest feeling to be able to walk through a clothing store and realize I can find something that fits. That hasn't happened to me in a long time.

Heehee! No kidding!

Then again ... smaller underwear no matter the gender is always a good thing!  :D

BTW -- I was hoping to hit my 60 pounds lost mark by Saturday, which is the day we leave for FL. I skipped 60 and went right to 61. I *might* have been at 62 if I had waited longer before eating. LOL! I've got 4 more days until we go, so I'll see if I can lose anymore. Those Mickey shorts were still a bit snug. ;)

Hooray for you.

I'm hoping for 20 more before we go away in the end of June!  60 before vacation sounds like a great goal to me.

It seems so far off............

Good for you Rena!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D

... Ain't it great when a plan comes together? ...
For those of you that are old enough, I took that from the original A-Team TV series.
It was probably George Pappard's most famous line.

Theresa  LOL well that did sound funny but you know what I meant . :D I think that everybody when they have been fat when they first lose they get a little thin . When you look in the mirror you still see fat not what everyone else sees.

If you think your tailbone is a rock you might be thin !!!!!!!!   ;D :D ;)

I cant tell I have lost weight just looking at my face so my son made a side by side photo of me and I can tell !!!!!! I had lost 10 before I started FTS so a total of 40 pounds . But such a long way to go  :P

LOL you all!  I can't wait to feel my tailbone!!!  I hope soon I stop seeing a fat person in the mirror...  And I can relate on the bras too - I bought 4 really pretty ones from Lane Bryant about a year ago and then rarely wore them cuz they got too tight!  Now I'm on the tightest clasps and still having issues getting the cups to fit right!  Gonna have to go shopping soon   :D
