I have in my hand a spagetti sauce I just bought at the grocery store called Victoria Roasted Garlic Sauce. It is 4 grams carb -2grams fiber=2 grams of carbs per half cup serving. Below i have typed out a chili sample recipe.
Chili
1/2 cup onions= 5 net carbs
1 cup spagetti sauce=4 net carbs
ground beef= 0 carbs
dry spices(chili powder,onion powder,garlic powder,etc)=0
Grated cheese for topping =1 carb

Total 10 carbs for 2 large bowls  ( i don't know how many people you are cooking for)
A hint* marinara sauces are usually lower if you cant find a low carb spagetti sauce*
You should not be going without anything.Thats why fat to skinny works my friend its because there is a replacement for everything!Thats why we have ask umpa!

Can we use canned tomatoes?  None of the sauce here is lower carb.  The canned tomatoes I like have net carb of 5 per 1/2 cup.

We travel....allot so finding the lowest carb pasta sauce is always an exercise in label reading. The latest find came from Albertsons super market. Go to your local market and start flipping the cans, read the labels and find the lowest. You'll be shocked at the amount of sugar in many brands!. Once you find what you like share the brand on the forum.

The brand we found is Victoria Marinara- 2 grams per 1/2 cup

It's called El Pato. It's a hot mexican style tomato sauce. I bought it at my local Walmart.

Tomatoes are high in sugar. They are a fruit after all.

Doug /Umpa

Do these numbers seem right?

Carbohydrate and Fiber Counts for Tomatoes

    * ½ cup chopped tomatoes: 2.5 grams effective (net)carbohydrate plus 1 gram fiber and 16 calories
    * 1 tomato, 3 inches in diameter (6.5 oz): 5 grams effective (net) carbohydrate plus 2 grams fiber and 33 calories
    * 1 medium cherry tomato (about ½ ounce): ½ gram effective (net) carbohydrate and 3 calories
    * 1 medium plum tomato (about 2 oz): 2 grams effective (net) carbohydrate plus 1 gram fiber and 11 calories
Thanks!
