Microwave Crispy Nacho Chips
« on: March 01, 2014, 07:55:45 PM »
Saturday night and hubby and I wanted a light dinner/snack.  After surfing the web I found a recipe that looked too simple for it to work.  We tested it and we're dumbfounded at how great the nacho chips worked.  I'm a newbie so perhaps this has been around for ages, and if so please forgive me!

Take 1 piece of American Cheese (we use Kraft Deli Deluxe which says 0 carbs but I've never paid attention to the ingredients ).

Cut the piece into 2 triangles and place on parchment paper.

Microwave for 45 seconds and then serve with your favorite nacho toppings or enjoy as a "cheese chip" of sorts.

Hi, Sunshine! :)

That is a great idea!
I like any method that's easy and good. ;)

Gonna try this soon.

Today I warmed some cream cheese and mixed with avocado and 0 carb taco sauce (not salsa) and spread on a cheese wedge/chip for a quick snack!

Hi, Sunshine! :)

I tried this tonight. And the cheese was VERY oily and chewy.
It tasted good. But I had to hold it with a paper towel.
I used Tillamook medium cheddar... Maybe their cheese has a higher fat content.

Yes there are lots of posts about Cheese Crisps  ;)  Microwave is the easiest way but you can do it in the oven as well.   If you do a quick search on the home page for them you can see all of them   ;D

I would think the wax paper would melt.   :(

Yes it needs to be parchment.  I've tried other cheeses and they don't puff up to make that chip feeling.  So far the American is the only one that's worked for me.  And seems to work better doing 1 slice (2 triangles) at a time.

I would share a picture of the chips if I knew how to upload - anyone help?  My first attempt said my file was too large.  So I zipped it but it didn't post.

Morgan long time no see! :)

Hi umpa, just came back from a holiday to Bali in Indonesia.  I checked in on the forum over there but couldn't remember my password/user? so didn't make any comments.

Needless to say I fell off the wagon - indonesians are not big on protein - and on top of that had to eat every meal out.  You couldn't just pop into a deli and get some cold cuts or roast chicken, doesn't work like that.  They are not big on cheese either.  I think they naturally thin just because of the scarcity of food.

Anyway I'm back and have to pull myself together and hopefully my life which still 'sux' because of lack of work.  It would be great if someone could hand us a piece of paper with a life plan on it to follow - "Life's Instruction Manual".  Make life easier.  When I was married and the kids were little, life was always busy with things to do and people coming and going.  When your older and alone and kids have moved out, it's a lot emptier.

Welcome back home, Morgan! :)

Traveling abroad almost always will challenge the FTS lifestyle.

And even though we may have to temporarily compromise how we eat,
when we get home, we can just get back on track and do just fine.
Of course, we try to avoid these situations as much as possible. They can further damage our metabolisms.

I pray that your job status improves soon.
We don't have it very good here in the states, either.
But if you stay positive and persistent, you will find a job.

Being older and alone can be difficult. And prolonged loneliness is NOT good for you!
Until you find you next job, I would suggest joining a senior center or doing some volunteer work.
Just find something to do that you enjoy doing with others. I promise, you will fee MUCH better! :)
