Title: My take on Cocktail Sauce
Post by: suzlyn454 on July 18, 2011, 01:01:06 PM
I was having shrimp and didn't have any cocktail sauce that wasn't high in carbs on hand.

The following satisfied me and now have 2 batches in the fridge.

2 Tblspns SF ketchup (Heinz) (2 net carbs)
1/2 tsp French's yellow mustard (0 net carbs)
1/4 tsp Horseradish Sauce (Woeber's Sandwich Pal <1g per tsp) (<1 net carb)
1/8 tsp garlic powder
1/8 tsp onion powder
1/4 tsp liquid smoke

I mixed all the ingredients in a small bowl and divided it into 2 small containers.  It doesn't look like very much in the container but you will be surprised how many shrimp you can dip and have "shrimp cocktail".  Since I split the amount into 2 servings I counted it as 1.5 net carbs to be safe.

Thanks suzlyn454! :)

I've been looking for a good SF cocktail sauce since I started FTS.
I tried a couple prepackaged. But they were disappointing.

I'll have to give this a shot. ;)

I stood for hours reading labels on all the ones in the store and couldn't justify buying any others.  Give me any suggestions for additions or substitutions.  Anything to inhance our taste buds lol!

Hope you like it.  After a couple days (if you make too much) it "jells" in the fridge and doesn't seem to be quite as good texture wise, flavor is still good.  Maybe microwave for a couple seconds to liquify (?)

Add alittle lemon juice and it will give you that twang of cocktail sauce and keep it from getting too thick. ;)

I just use the sf ketchup and horse raddish with a splash of lemon juice.  It is the same recipe that we had to use in a restaurant that I worked at once....we had to make that and the tarter sauce .... really yummy  ;)

I have always made my seafood sauce using mayonnaise  and SF tomato sauce (ketchup) and splash of lemon juice.  Ratios according to taste.
