Title: Net carbs
Post by: bratz984 on February 22, 2016, 10:45:53 AM
This may be a silly question but I was wondering if the net carbs changed during the cooking process. I recently added the Atkins app to my phone to help keep track of my net carbs. I am a creature of habit and usually eat 2 to 3 eggs scrambled with cheese and real bacon bits with atkins chocolate shake for breakfast. I've been calculating that to be much lower than the app. The app states 3 scrambled eggs with cheese Is 6 net carbs. Is this correct? Does anyone have a better app recommendation on counting carbs? Please help :)

Hi Bratz984, welcome to the party :) I have always counted eggs as 1 net carb.....cheese depends on what your using. For instance pre-shredded cheese has potato starch added to the mix to stop the slivers from sticking together. Some cheeses do have carbs. If you're eating 3 eggs with zero carb cheese and an Atkins shake for breakfast I would count as below.

3 eggs- 3 net carbs
zero carb cheese- 0 net carbs
Shake(assuming you're drinking the 2 net carb shake) 2 net carbs

Total breakfast 5 net carbs.

My rules are pretty simple, stay under 20 net carbs per day during your weight loss (http://www.fattoskinny.com/) period of time and you will continue to lose weight (http://www.fattoskinny.com/).  8)

I'm not much on apps, I like to do all my own counts. I do use my FAT TO SKINNY carb counter book often for that purpose.

Thank u so much Doug! I am going to be ordering a few things from you this evening. I will make sure to add the carb counter. I have been doing lower carb for the past 3 weeks and have only lost 3 lbs. I'm discouraged but still determined. Because of your book I have just recently started staying under 20 carbs a day. It's a learning process for sure.  Thank you so much for all you do to help pple like me become healthy :)

Welcome to the FTS family, bratz984! :) :) :)

I've been living the FTS lifestyle since August 2010, and never looked back.
And never been healthier or happier with myself since I was 30 years old (I'm 64)! ;D

Doug's carb counter is a great reference.
Here are a few more online carb counter references for those items not in Doug's counter.
