carb count in choc to good to be true?
« on: April 04, 2011, 11:04:28 PM »
I bought this sugar free chocolate today... AntiOx chocolate with Goji berries.  70% cocoa

According to the FTS formulae, its carb content is "trace".  So Im wondering if I give you the contents list, you might help me work out the carb content...

PER 100g
energy 1968kJ (471 cal)
protein 7.2g
fat (total) 38.8g
- saturated 23.6g
- trans fats <0.1g
Carb (total) 11.8g
- carbs from chocolate 4.8g
- carbs from fruit 7g
sugars from choc <0.2g
sugars from fruit 4.4g
dietry fibre (total) 24.6g
-soluble dietry fibre 17.1g
erythritol 12.8g
sodium 47mg

Its the 1st time Ive bought sugar free chocolate, and trace carbs seems to good to be true

I agree with Gary about the fruit. I looked at the bars and the dark chocolate looks safe to me, stay away from the one with the berries. If your weight loss stalls quit eating these and stay within the serving size.

Thanks!  I'll keep that in mind, Ive only had a few squares, Ive been careful not to "over-indulge".
I actually e-mailed the company and this is the reply I got....

"To answer your question about net carbs, unlike Nutritional declarations in the USA, in Australia we do not need to show unavailable carbohydrates if they are declared in another part of the nutritional table such as dietary fibre for example.

Therefore in the nutritional table for our AntiOx Goji Chocolate you will see Carbohydrates(total) as 11.8% which is made up of 4.8% carbs from the sugar free chocolate and 7% carbs from the Goji berries. Therefore the 11.8% carbs are all available carbs or net carbs as you have referred them.

So a 14g serve (4 pieces) of Goji AntiOx Chocolate has a total of 1.7g of net carbs."

The dark chocolate is very rich, so 2 blocks has actually been enough a a treat  ;)
