General Discussion / You made my 13 yr. old niece smile
« on: August 17, 2010, 02:23:58 PM »
We tell my niece all the time how you can tell she has slimmed down with the new fts lifestyle but, this weekend her younger cousin complimented her on her weight loss and said she looked skinny and great and my niece was beaming with happiness.  It's hard as an adult to change their lifestyle but even harder as a child when your friends eat pizza, go to McDonald's etc and I tell her everyday how happy and proud of her I am but, to hear that from her cousin who she doesn't see much meant so much to her and made her prouder of the better choices she has been making in her life.  And, my dad who was so skeptical of this lifestyle change told me thank you for making me healthier and he is actually looking forward to his upcoming doctor visit to see where his sugar levels are at as he is borderline diabetic.  So, tysvm Doug for bringing out this life saving book and Sherry for your wonderful recipes and support.

Child Support (Kid friendly recipes) / pasta dye
« on: July 12, 2010, 09:06:05 PM »
here's another recipe to use up some carb foods in other ways  :)

1/4 cup rubbing alcohol
food coloring
dry pasta - elbow macaroni noodles work great
newspaper
wax paper

mix the alcohol and food coloring in a bowl.  add small amounts of dry pasta to the liquid and gently mix.  the larger the pasta, the longer it will take to absorb the colors.  dry on newspapers covered with wax paper.  Remind your child(ren) that pasta dyed with this recipe is not for eating; it's only for art projects

This product works very well to make the crepes just wish they would come out with a bigger box size so it would last a bit longer for a family of 6.  but I do love it for crepes but not, for waffles kinda stiff and cardboard like for me.  But, thinned out as a crepe which Doug has a great recipe for in the book on pg. 171 they work better for than I think as a pancake or a waffle.  My opinion is this product makes a better crepe.

Product Reviews / arnold select sandwich thins 100% whole wheat
« on: June 02, 2010, 02:09:16 PM »
I'm wondering if this is ok to use as I occassionally let the kids have a pc of toast as I dont have a bread maker yet and I'm still trying to find ingredients to make breads.  I must live in an odd area cuz lots of ingredients I need to buy online.

This is what the bag says and this is per 1 roll (43 g)  which when I give them the toast for brkfst with their scrambled eggs I only give them 1/2 a roll to reduce the carbs n sugars

per 1 roll is per servings:
caloris 100 calories from fat 10
total fat 1 g - 2%
saturated fat 0 g - 0 %
trans fat 0 g.

cholesterol 0 mg - 0%
sodium 230 mg - 10%
total carbs 21g - 7% minus the dietary fiber of 5g - 20% shud equal 16 g of usable carbs ( I read somewhere that the dietary fiber doesnt digest in your system nor be absorbed so it will not cause an insulin release.  also that it slows the absorption of starches and sugars that occur with it so fiber lessens their bad influence)  usuable carbs being the carbs that shud be limited.

sugars 2 g
protein 5 g

the vitamins r:  calcium 4%, thiamin 6%, niacin 8%, iron 6%, riboflavin 2% and folic acid is 4%

the ingredients are in case I'm missing any hidden sugars etc r:

whole wheat flour, water, wheat bran, sugar, wheat gluten, cellulose fiber, yeast, salt, polydextrose, canola and or, soybean oil, preservatives (calcium, propionate, sorbic acid), guar gum, cultured wheat flour, monoglycerides, citric acid, sodium stearoyl, lactylate, sucrolose and soy lecithin

so I guess if there are no hidden carbs or sugars then per serving of what I give them it would be 8 g of usable carbs and 1 g of sugar?

The whole bag is 8 servings which I break down into 16 servings and a rare treat since I think over $2.00 a bag is to pricey to purchase all the time
