Title: 10 weeks and 10,000 miles
Post by: suzlyn454 on August 07, 2012, 08:44:24 AM
I'm back.  Got home about 2 weeks ago and still not caught up.  Saw the Badlands, Yellowstone, Old Faithful, Grand Tetons and much much more.  Traveled from South Carolina to California and back.  2 nights from home blew a wheel bearing on our travel trailer (including a fire) and spent 3 nights in a repair shop parking lot (us and the 3 cats!).  Stuck to FTS with a few small deviations but came back with no weight gain and smaller waistline as well.

Traveling mainstays were parmesan cheese crisps, chicken salad, soy bean salad, frosted cauliflower, salads, cheeses and meats.  Anxious to check any new recipes and videos from Doug and Umpa.

Just wanted to say hi everyone, missed all of you!

Suz

Welcome back Suz, Umpa and I and our 4 Yorkies spent the first night of our honeymoon in the back lot of a greasy repair facility (Tampa Spring) in our first fifth wheel waiting for a new spring to come in.....  ;D ;D

Thanks Doug!  Yep, now we have to begin the battle of getting reimbursed since our rig is still under warranty!

This picture was taken in May 2011 with husband.  Old profile pic.

Following are pics taken during trip.  Feeling lots better about being in front of a camera since FTS a year ago!

This pic was taken of husband Larry and I in front of a waterfall in South Dakota.  By the way I have been calling hubby skinny for a long time and feel great because now I only weigh 10 pounds more than him!! I am 10 pounds from his skinny LOL.

My first goal was to weigh less than my husband.  We all have to have something to work toward!

You look great, by the way!

Welcome home, Suz!!! :) :) :) :) :)

Except for the wheel bearing problem, sounds like you two had a wonderful time!

And kudos for largely sticking with FTS. ;D ;D ;D
When traveling, it can be more challenging than being at home... But it is doable.

You look mavelous, dahling! ;D

Thanks Andrea and Tony!!  Congratulations to both of you, I checked your tickers and you both are really close to your goals.  I'm still 23 pounds away but over half way and does it ever feel great.  I'm working on getting the "under" 160 since I finally made the under 170 LOL!  Tony, the deviations were because we were with family and ate out a LOT; other than that camper cooking recipes helped me stay on track.  Interestingly enough our son commented on my weight loss (http://www.fattoskinny.com/) this last Saturday, but he hadn't seen me since April.  Again, the activity of travel and sight seeing helped me slim down in inches even though the pounds fluctuated 3-4 pounds up or down.  Not complaining, back on a stricter FTS lifestyle now and looking forward to completing my journey.

Thanks again everyone!  Yes Umpa, am happier and thinner LOL.  Now I'm also not so camera shy.  A year ago was not real excited about being in front of camera unless I was behind a chair or someone else!  Golly Gee how FTS can change not only your physical outlook but your mental outlook.

Traveling mainstays were parmesan cheese crisps, chicken salad, soy bean salad, frosted cauliflower, salads, cheeses and meats.

This is very inspiring to know that it CAN BE DONE on a long trip! I'm sure having your own home with you was a definite advantage, but I'm sure there are other ways to be successful, even in a hotel. Congratulations to you!!!

What's "frosted cauliflower"? I haven't been brave enough to try any cauliflower/carb substitutes.  I've never thought about soy bean salad. Interesting.

Hi Waterlily!  I've attached a link to where I originally posted the frosted cauliflower recipe.  We love it around our house.  I've even changed it up a little by adding brocoli once in a while or changing the cheese from cheddar to parmesan (whatever works LOL)
I have found that I like it best with the sour cream added.

Hi Waterlilly You are right having your own home with you sure helps a lot.  The Hubs and I just came back from a two week trip with our motor home and I had it packed full of meals that we could fix for ourselves.  Funny thing is we just got home yesterday and I have to unload most of those meals that I packed  :-\  Who would have thought with all the fun we were having I would be to tired to cook  ;D ;D ;D ;D   I haven't met a place yet that isn't willing to accommodate what I need.  Most of the time I don't even need to ask for anything different....just leave off this or that  ;)  I didn't lose anything but most important, I didn't gain anything either  :) Love is good  ;D

PS you should try the frosted cauliflower....It is soooooo good  ;)

Thanks Toosweet. Would it be possible to use bagged (pre chopped) cauliflower?

Waterlily, yes you can use pre-chopped fresh or even frozen bagged cauliflower if you fix it like I did.
