Title: Net Carb Lavash
Post by: ereino on October 24, 2012, 03:39:33 PM
I would like a receip to make the low net carb lavash.  Buying it is too expensive.  Is this possible and thanks so very much!  I am definitely a newbie!

Thats a good question, I don't know the answer.I  will look at some recipes and get back you. ;) Low carb tortillas are cheaper.

Yes, and we have found the low carb tortillas and they are good...but there is something about lavash that is splendid!  I would love to make them.  My husband thinks it's too much work, but I would love to at least try it out.  We buy from Florida and we live in Wisconsin, and a few times there have been some moldy spots on them and the shipping is expensive.  We freeze them immediately and then use.  BUT, still, I would like to make our own.  Thanks for checking into this for me!  You are GREAT!

Have you checked at your WalMart?  I found the lavash in the deli section with the other breads they have on low shelves in front of the deli counter.  I admit that I was so excited about finding them locally that I don't remember the price, but certainly less than paying for shipping and they were fresh.

Speaking of lavish.....(I also buy mine from Walmart  ;) )  I tried something new with it today.  I was really hungry for a crunchy cereal....Lord knows why  8)  It's cold here Ha!  I soaked one for about 15 minutes in Torani's sf french vanilla syrup.  Cut into small pieces and sprinkled with cinnamon.  I sprayed some parchment paper with cooking spray, laid them out in a single layer and sprayed the tops.  I baked these at 325 for about 15 minutes to crisp up.  (keep an eye out because they can burn quickly)  Half a lavish = 4 net carbs.  I threw mine in a bowl and added my sf almond milk (I like to use the Silk brand at 0 net carbs per serving).  Reminded me of Cinnamon Toast Crunch....... Pretty tasty  ;D ;D ;D   Just wanting something different than eggs this morning  ;)

My, oh my, oh my.  Who woulda thought cereal was at my fingertips?

I've been thinking of dusting it with a little popcorn oil and powdered ranch dressing mix (just a little) cutting it into squares and toasting it to make crackers.  Same concept I think, but Shawn actually did it!

This stuff is very versatile!

Andrea these work great as cracker for sure.....I've been doing that for a while now.  Those popcorn flavorings work great for that too  ;) Especially the cheddar cheese and the ranch  (FYI... if you are going to use those...make the crackers plain first and season after they are cooled.  If you put them in a ziplock and give a little shake......   Yummm  :)  Those flavorings don't bake well as a coating  :-\ )

Umpa I'm sure they would work great in the camper  ;)

I wish I could take credit for this idea...LOL  I saw this on another site and I finally tried it this morning.   It's wicked good   :-*   so I thought I would share with my FTS peeps  ;D

Thanks, ladies.  I don't have much time at home every day and I spend very little of it in the kitchen.  I'm feeling very inspired in the "what to do with the lavash" category.  I'm making crackers tonight.  Thanks for the tips, Shawn.

Happy snacking Andrea  ;D  That is what I like about these....you don't have to spend so much time in the kitchen because a lot of the cooking is already done.   It falls in the almost homemade category LOL

okay, I called Outpost Natural food stores and they sold Sami's Lavash but the price was $6.79 a packet.  It's way too far for me to travel - probably greater than 50  miles so forget it.  BUT, thanks for the Wal-Mart tip.  Maybe I'll just purchase them there.  I'm still interested in making them, so Umpa, if you ever come across a recipe, that would be GREAT!  AND, if I come across one I'll share.  Thanks for all of the communication regarding making crackers, too.  My husband makes them out of the lavash and we use with crackers or soups.  You all take care now and have a wonderful and VERY CREATIVE DAY!

Oh man!!  That is crazy expensive!!  I don't blame you for not wanting to drive far or wanting to make your own!  I would check Walmart out for sure.  The Joseph's lavash are really good and probably more than half that cost.  I love the pitas too for sandwiches and mini pizzas.   If your Walmart doesn't have them make sure you ask before you give up, mine will run out quickly.  Most stores I look in have them in the deli area not with the breads.  It's not that I don't like to make my own things...I usually do but these are such a reasonable price.  I don't think I could make them for much cheaper  LOL Not like the others you are talking about....geez I would be all about making my own then!!  HA !   If you come across a recipe I would love to try it  ;D

Here is what you are looking for, for those that are wondering....

Going to my Wal-Mart at lunch time - Wish me luck that they have them.  If I don't see them on the counter, I'll do as Too Sweet suggested and ask someone if they carry them and when the next shipment will be in.  This is a GREAT website and thank you Doug and Umpa!

Nope, tried two super size Wal-Mart stores in the se Wisconsin locations and none of them carry Joseph's Lavash.  Even spoke to a store manager at both places.  Now, the Woodman's in Kenosha sells the high carb lavash.  They also sell a Lawash (that's right, with a W) and it is like a skinny tortilla and low net carbs.  I am getting tired of hunting this down.  One more try at a Health Hut, but not very promising for this area.  Soooooooooooo, I am a thinking that a RECIPE :-) is my last resort.  Any luck with pulling one together?  No rush, but I am down to my last three packages of Sami's in the freezer.  We are going to miss those babies once they are gone!  Help and Thanks bunches!

Hi ereino! :)

I just reordered these from Netrition.com.
We really like them! ;D

http://www6.netrition.com/josephs_bakery_lavash_bread.html (http://www6.netrition.com/josephs_bakery_lavash_bread.html)

I was also running low on Sugar Free Teriyaki Sauce.
So I ordered a few bottles at the same time.

http://www6.netrition.com/seal_sama_sf_teriyaki_sauce.html (http://www6.netrition.com/seal_sama_sf_teriyaki_sauce.html)

You should browse around their site for other low carb foods.
They have a HUGE selection at reasonable prices.

Netrition charges $4.95 shipping per order regardless of the order's size.
I normally stock up and order quantities for that reason.

Tony

Okay Dear - hope you are have a great time - Oh, no luck with lavash - t/t Health Nut and he just called me back and said their suppliers don't buy this product.  Also t/t a Pick N Save and he is asking his folks about it.  I still want to make this product.  AND, I know as a last resort I can get on Netrition to order.  BUT, still want to make.  t/t you when you return from your trip Umpa.  Take care and be safe!

My Walmart no longer carries the Lavash or Pitas.  I'm really bummed about losing the convenience of just adding it to my grocery list vs. ordering online.  It freezes and thaws well so I ordered a month's worth but DARN!

Oh man that isn't fun at all!!   :o :o  I sure hope my Walmart doesn't quit with them.  They do tend to run out of them often though.... I would think a good seller would keep them on the shelf.  I hate that for you Andrea...I would be bummed too  :-\

Hi Andrea! :)

I've found that by speaking with a store's manager will usually get products back on store shelves.

Simply tell him/her that you buy the product on a regular basis.
And would prefer buying it from them rather than somewhere else.

Nutrition is a lot cheaper than the company itself I think but you can get them directly from them too.  They have a nice combo case available that has the pitas and the lavash together.   I just ordered and I'm waiting on a few supplies to come....I have a couple of recipes to try for the homemade version.  I'll report back as soon as I can if any are a success.   :)

Hi everyone - Hoping your New Year is starting with a splash.

Doug, I have ordered from Netrition Joseph's Lavash and other items, but would still like to make my own.  Joseph's is a lot thinner that the Sami's and Sami's thickness is perfect for pizzas.  If all else fails, my fallback is Netrition.  Joseph's Lavash is perfect, though, in making tortilla chips.  And, at Woodman's shopping center, they cell a Lawash, which is extremely thin and even more perfect in making chips.  You all take care and have a creative and blessed day!

When I want my pizza crust thicker, I put two layers of lavash with shredded mozzarella between the layers.  It holds up a bit better to being eaten with my hands.

What a great idea Andrea ;) I use a pizza stone at 425- 450 degrees . The higher temp 450 is if there are watery veggies.Always precook your mushrooms in the microwave before putting them on the pizza, you will be shocked how much liquid comes out.Just cut them up put in a dish with a couple teaspoons of water and cover and cook for a few minutes. ;)

If you use the pitas...... I open one end just enough to slide a cheese sick or two in.  Move them to the edge being careful not to let the pita edge open up.  Add toppings in the center as usual and bake....voila!!  Stuffed cheese pizza  ;D ;D ;D

We are such torchered souls eating this way Haha

Yes, the other day I tried the two layers with the cheese inbetween - you have to be careful with the lavash because they don't require too much cooking time, but the goodies on top do - so it is a balancing act.  I still love the sami's thickness.  I got spoiled with Sami's!   Thanks you all and have a GREAT DAY!
