Title: I'm off and running.....I think!
Post by: ausgirl on February 08, 2011, 08:56:35 PM
So I've re-read the book over the last week or so (2nd time now) and today, without even thinking about it, I am fairly sure I have come in under 15 carbs!

B - 3 egg omelette (shouldn't have had 3, 2 was sufficient, but somehow my egg/cream ratio was off so had to add an extra one in) made with a little half an half (maybe 2? carbs) + 3 for the eggs
with 3 slices bacon (0 carbs)
mushrooms (about 6 pre-sliced ones) - ?1 carb
grated cheddar cheese

L home made cauliflower soup (I estimate around 4 carbs?)

S two slices "natural" ham rolled up with one slice havarti cheese 0 carbs

D small chicken fillet with stir fried vegies - few mushrooms, about 8 snow peas, little onion, little broccoli, red pepper - unsure of total carbs - guesstimate maybe 4?
a little soy - not sure if that has carbs

treat - whipped cream with sugar free raspberry syrup

Is that ok for a first day?
Comments appreciated

Don't yell at me if I haven't calculated correctly, I wasn't really trying, but I think I did pretty well for an "unofficial" first day?

I think you did great!

Those first few weeks it seems tough trying to figure out the carbs. Soon it will be second nature to you and you won't even think about it. There is a meal plan area on the forums. You can start placing your daily plan there and it really helps keep track of what you're eating.

Welcome to FTS!! We are all doing the FTS lifestyle right along with you. So come in, sit down and post often.   ;D

Your meal plan looked good to me too, ausgirl!  :)

And Sherri's right.
After a while, you will be able to count carbs almost unconsciously!

It doesnt seem like it now but give it 2 weeks and you will know what you are doing , just read all the labels that you already have and before you buy ,some things that you may think have no carbs will have some .

Hi Umpa,
Yeah, I'm a milk in my coffee girl, not a cream girl, never have been.....I even have trouble stomaching the half and half.  I think I may go back to the almond milk.
I will go to the Meal Plans area from now on and post my daily food.

Hi Ausgirl!  :)

Almond milk is a wonderful alternative to regular milk.
It works in most recipes that call for cow's milk.

If you add whey protein shake powder to it (whatever flavor you prefer) with some low carb berries and run them in a blender for a short bit,
you can make some awesome low carb milkshakes!

Thanks Mouseissue, I'm just not really a big "dairy" lover....

Hi again Umpa,

I understand that you need to read the labels.  There are a couple of brands of cream and half and half here - and much to my surprise the half and half that I bought has 1 carb per tbsp - whereas I'm sure when I've bought the Neilsen one before, its been way higher than that.  Also the same brand (I think it was a brand from Sobeys) whipping cream also had 1 carb, so I'll check and make better choices at the grocery store this weekend.

I had the almond milk this morning - I'm happy with that.

Almond milk is like 1 carb for a whole cup so that will work in coffee if it taste good . Did you put it in your coffee ?

I know it can be confusing. That's why we ALWAYS read labels.

If you can find Land O' Lakes Whipped  Heavy Cream in an aerosol can, it's 0.6 net carbs per 2 TBSP.
The can says 0.
But the carb calculator (below) disagrees so I'd use that to be safe if you plan to use more than 2 TBSP.

Yes Jo, it wasn't bad at all.
Mouseissue, I'm just not into the cream at all in coffee, so I'm thinking I might just stick to the almond milk, but thanks for your advice!
I might take your advice on the milkshake (well a version of it), cos I got some Herschey's sugar free choc syrup in my order today, I think that might be nice with almond milk and some ice - if I ever feel the need for a "shake" of some kind!

I was thinking along the lines of whipped cream on SF hot cocoa, SF Jello (one of my low carb staples), or some other dessert.

Oh duh, sorry.
Luckily I'm not a big dessert girl, but jello is a big YUKKO for me......I think I must have been traumatised by a jello monster when I was little or something....
