Thanks Mouseissue. I just restarted today (officially). I will NEVER give up!! Plus I'm tired of the fat pants so that settles it.

The ones around here seem to be monsters for some reason. I might try it again but I don't want to hurt myself. That would suck. Wish I could find a deli that would prepare them for me.

You go girl! :) I love this board!

Thanks Umpa!  I love these boards too, for the reason above. VERY supportive here with few to no trolls.  I've run into a few low carb advocates who are on real internet attention power trips and their intentions aren't quite as honest as you would expect. I truly believe that you and Doug are trying to do a good thing here and you do have good interests at heart.

OK. I will have to buy a machete to get it into the smaller pieces first!   :D

I'll give it another shot. I bought an instant veggie dicer thingy that I saw on tv so I might try to use the french fry cutter. I really want some of those jicima fries!

General Discussion / Re: Heavy cream??
« on: August 02, 2012, 09:23:04 AM »
When you buy your heavy cream be sure to buy one that actually lists O carbs VS one that lists < 1 carb and you'll be OK. Manufactures differ from one to the next so be sure to check labels. The only time you'll have hidden carbs which are not listed on most labels will be when the serving size is so small they aren't required to list them. As is the case with Splenda packets and Tic Tac mints.  ;)

I'm re-posting this because this is EXCELLENT advice ;D!  Yet another benefit of FTS. NO crazy confusion or little rules to worry about.  So for my own clarity, I will summarize what Doug just said:

If it has <1 carb listed on the label, there are probably hidden carbs. If the package lists "0" carbs on the label, then it has 0 carbs which you can count on with a high level of confidence.

That sounds good to me! I made the 5 minute brownie again for breakfast and enjoyed 1/4 cup of 0 carb heavy cream and I now feel REALLY good about it. Not to mention that I feel really FULL about it too. Love that feeling. <3

I love jicima but don't know how to prep it. The vegetable is HUGE and REALLY HARD to cut into. Am I supposed to nuke it first? Because that thing raw is just a monster  >:(.

This is an excellent question. I'm confused myself on the carb count. Thus far, my carton has a carb count of "0". I can't imagine that something with NO milk sugars, JUST cream, would have that many carbs. I just used 1/4 cup of it the other day to make the super fast brownie recipe (which was TASTY!). 1 carb per tbsp? Cheese (block) had no carbs..why would heavy cream be different?

The more I think about this jeans test, the more it makes sense. I'd like to throw my hat (pants?) in the ring and state the following, VERY publically:

I am now a size 16  >:( >:( >:( . I kind of know how I got here and I know FOR SURE how to get OUT OF here.

My goal is either a size 4 or 6  ;D (not sure yet).  Either way, the pants have to fit comfortably with no "relaxed" versions needed  ;D. Thus is my goal. Right now I'm wearing what I call my "fat pants"  :-[ :-[ :-[ . Boy will I be glad to see those go  ;) ;) ! And I don't think I will mess with the scale for a while. For now, it's all about the "FTS of the Low Carb Pants" (or something like that).

BINGO, Waterlilly!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Yay! I win!!!  (No, just kidding).

I also want to add that Davie Jones was a vegetarian and an avid runner and I believe he recently died at about age 66 from some kind of heart condition. So much for avoiding heart attacks by avoiding "Saturated fat" in meat!

Nook is nifty. I think I"m about to buy a Google Nexus for the same benefit.

General Discussion / Re: I have an idea for Doug and Umpa!
« on: July 31, 2012, 07:54:36 PM »
I just figured that since you always have your keys with you, it would always be around and it could be a reminder. This way, when I'm at the Wendy's drive through, I can have a reminder that I really DO want to order the double bacon burger, throw away the bun, no catsup, extra mayo, side salad, throw away the croutons, and an iced tea.  Kind of like the equivalent of wearing your team's sports jersey. It reminds you you're part of the team. 'Round these here parts, we're CUBS fans!  ;D

Morgan, the magnet is good idea too. I think seeing FTS on your fridge would be a great reminder!

General Discussion / I have an idea for Doug and Umpa!
« on: July 31, 2012, 06:58:20 AM »
Before I share my idea, I credit this new creativity to the fact that I NO LONGER have to take grad classes! (Still celebrating getting my life back here). OK, so here's my idea...

I really LIKE having things around that remind me of FTS. Sort of like a way to brand this way of eating that I can own. It would be REALLY COOL  8) to have an FTS keychain. But not like those big goofy plastic things. I'm thinking something much smaller that could attach to my current keys. Maybe something smaller that just says "FTS" on a little bar. Something smallish that would easily fit into a pocket.

So here's the other part... You could take some or all  (after production costs) of the profit for this keychain for your books for schools program!  So buying the keychain would be like a donation to the program.

I have no idea what it costs to develop something like this, so please pardon my ignorance on business/production costs. I just thought I would share my idea.  :)

I'm thinking they could look like this except without the religious symbol (I think it's an "evil eye" or something) but this general size: http://www.flickr.com/photos/22514370@N05/4091014457/#sizes/l/  and the charm would be something with FTS on it.

Just thought I would toss it out there!

I know exactly what you mean.
Other than when I played football in school or worked in the shipyards, I was always FAT.
So confidence in being a healthy thin person was most often a foreign concept to me.

When I lived with my folks, bread, pasta, pastries, sugary sweets, etc. were the order of the day.
After I graduated college, got married and moved on, so did my bad eating habits.

Mouseissue, I'm glad you said this. Eating habits are SO important. About a year go, I weighed about 20 pounds less. Then I started a grad program (which is now OVER thank God!) and I got really inactive. Sure, the stress eating was an issue, but I didn't realize that if you're really active, it can cover bad eating habits.

When I was ballroom dancing, going to spinning 2x/week and doing light weights at home plus other active stuff, I was much closer to a normal weight. Still, I had inflammation issues such as psoriasis. In a weird way, I am VERY happy my inactivity revealed that my EATING HABITS were to blame. Sure, I'm going to get active again, but it's nuts to think that someone would have to get "shipyard building" active for their whole lives, just to keep weight down.

I also recently read about a guy who was a triathlete and another low carb ultra sports person who noticed paunchy bellies on these amazing athletes.  Not to mention what you DON'T see on the INSIDE. So despite the external, exercise is just a cover (or can be). It's what's inside that helps.

I truly believe eating this way is very HEALING to the body. Sure we lose weight but I also believe we balance our biochemistry and our bodies by eating this way.

waterlilly,
i do the same exact thing. the book is on my counter at all times!

Great minds, great minds..... :D

Oh cool! I will download the app. This might sound weird but its nice to have something that reminds me I am doing FTS. I keep the book in my kitchen for that very reason (and for reference too) instead of on my bookshelf.

I am VERY curious as to the BIG changes coming up...hmmmm......... :)
