It was really delicious Tony. I love steelhead, is that a fish you can catch in WA?

Most definitely, Doug!
Steelhead trout is the Washington state fish. ;D
Washington designated steelhead trout (Salmo gairdnerii) as the official state fish in 1969.
A river (the Cowlitz) about 40 miles south from me has Summer, early Winter, and Winter runs.
Not to mention Spring and Fall runs of silver and chinook (aka king) salmon.
There's another stream (the Puyallup River) about 45 miles north that has HUGE runs of
pink (humpback) salmon in the Fall of odd number years.
And of course, our northwest coast (on the Olympic Peninsula about 160 miles away) is known as the
steelhead capitol of the world. The streams there are around the renowned town of Forks (the Twilight movie
series was filmed around there). They put out large runs of native slabs in the 20-30+ lb. range in
Winter and early Spring months.
I plan to hit the Cowlitz river this Summer and see what happens.

Wow, very cool, what kind of tackle and fishing techniques?
-
I primarily drift weighted jigs under a bobber.
Sometimes tipped with a very small piece of shrimp for scent.
On occasion, using a level wind reel and 7.5-8 ft. medium graphite rod,
I'll use standard drift fishing techniques with pencil lead and leader with corkie & yarn, and/or
salmon/steelhead roe, or shrimp tails, or sand (ghost) shrimp, in combo with spin-n-glos, cheaters, etc..
Spinners and spoons work well too, in the right conditions.
In the dead of Summer, I'll sometimes use a spinning reel and medium-light action 10 ft. rod,
floating black nymph flies with splitshot under a bobber (or alone) will pry open reluctant steelhead mouths.
I've also been known to plunk (still fishing) with pyramid sinker, spin-n-glos with roe, rod holder and
a folding chair, and cooler with a few brewskys and sharp cheddar cheese. ;)
I just now got a hankering for smoked steelhead, sharp cheese, and cold beer! ;D ;D ;D ;D
