Title: A new twist for the deviled egg
Post by: suzlyn454 on April 17, 2012, 02:54:01 PM
I came up with this by accident..I had originally intended to eat 0 carb chicken vienna sausage but happened to grab some Armour potted meat (0 carb also) instead.  Surprisingly enough this is pretty tasty.

Boil 4 eggs (I use Egglands 0 carb)
Peel and separate eggs as usual
Place egg yolks in a bowl and chop them up like for deviled eggs or egg salad....
Now the mix:
Open a can of potted meat and add the following
1 Tbl mayo
1 Tbl SF relish (1)
2 Tbl grated cheddar cheese
1 Tbl grated parmesan cheese
1 tsp mustard
1 tsp dried minced onion
2 tsp Cholula hot sauce
Mix well and add to your egg yolks, then fill your eggs
Personally I thought this was tasty BUT you might taste the potted meat mix BEFORE you add it to your egg yolks and make deviled eggs like I did

Well Doug to answer that question I had to retreive the can from my recyling pile..I can't find any nutrition info on the website www.Armour-Star.com (http://www.Armour-Star.com) so I am writing the ingredients by using my magnifying glass LOL.

Mechanically separated chicken, beef tripe (does this constitute pink slime?), water, salt.  Contains 2% or Less of Mustard, Natural Flavors, Garlic Powder, Vinegar, Dextrose, Sodium Erythorbate, Sodium Nitrate.

Serving size 1 can (3 oz), calories 160, fat calories 110, total fat 12g, sat fat 3.5g, cholestrol 80mg, sodium 840 mg, total carb 0, Protein 11g (not a significant source of fiber and sugar)

I don't know Beth but it sounds good.  There are several other brands here in Hartsville, SC  that their label indicates they are also 0 carb.

Umpa, you are toooo funny.

Okay, now for that chicken salad recipe.  It is really hard to make and for some reason I never seem to have enough (LOL)

2 large cans premium white chicken meat drained (I use Sam's Club brand members mark 0 carb)
Put the drained chicken meat in a large bowl and separate the larger chunks with a fork
Add 5 Tbl of Mount Olive SF sweet relish (5)
Add 1 Tbl of minced dried onion (1)
Add mayo as desired (I probably use 3/4 - 1 cup)
Stir together then add a sprinkle of salt and pepper to taste
Last ingredient 1 packet of splenda
Makes about 8 servings

Serve on romaine lettuce leaves or crispy parmesan chips (my fav) or Izzet's bread.  By the way, it can be eaten plain too LOL.  P.S. This is how I make my tuna salad too only I might add a boiled egg.

Sometimes it's better to just check the carb count and not look at the ingredients!  That isn't usually good advice, and Tony will probaby squirm when he reads that, but separated chicken and beef tripe is information I could have lived without.

It's not quite as bad as some bologna I had once.  The first ingredient was ox lips!

I think I'll pass on the potted meat  :o ! How can eggland say zero carbs for their eggs? easy, they just say it....is it true? Not sure how  ::)

I did lots of research when putting together my carb counter book and I determined a count of 1 carb for a jumbo egg and 1/2 for an egg white to be the safe bet.

... Do you know what beef tripe is??   LOL ...

Yep!... It's the main ingredient in probably the best known Mexican soup... Menudo!
It's tasty stuff if you don't think about what it is... Cow stomach! ;D

Since cows only eat grass, I don't mind eating it.
I can't say the same for any carnivorous (meat eating) animal though! :D :D :D

I can't close my left eye by itself.  I had to wear an eye patch during the archery lessons in PE class in college.  The teacher made fun of it but I just can't do it no matter how hard I try.  That circuit in my brain is just missing.
