General Discussion / Re: Week 2 - Shoot the Scales
« on: May 07, 2012, 06:51:12 PM »
Feeling good umpa.  Sometimes I think detox hasn't really kicked in yet because I really haven't been hungry or really craving anything to badly (bread yes but not desparately).  I just concerned that it's going to kick in soon and hard.  But drinking about 8 cups water (2 litres).  I keep a crysal jug with water on the sink in the kitchen (might sound pretentious but makes the water look prettier  :)) since I am either in the kitchen or always passing through, and grab a glass full.  Also manage a glass or two whilst cooking.

oh  Drooooooolllll - BLT with advocado - Guess what's for lunch tomorrow.  I just discovered OMM recipe and to turn it into 2 slices bread.  Does popping it in the toaster work ok? So it has a bit more crunch.

General Discussion / OMM - My Sincere Thanks
« on: May 07, 2012, 03:29:23 AM »
To whoever invented the recipe for the one minute muffins, my sincere thanks.  Tried for the first time yesterday morning (Sunday) for breakfast with a little SF maple syrup and a spoon of cream.  Was a bit too sweet but, hey, it was a treat.  The good think was that I was out most of the day and wasn't hungry at all.  This morning I used the recipe to make a  cheese and ham toasted sandwich - it has truly fixed my bread craving.  The only thing I find is it smells a bit 'eggy'.  Can you halve the amount of egg?  Would it still rise as well?

General Discussion / Week 2 - Shoot the Scales
« on: May 07, 2012, 03:19:37 AM »
Well week 2 came and went.  I had put the scales out of reach so I wouldn't be tempted to hop on them more than once a week.  I have worked through my dejection at what that told me today and, as much as I wanted to, I did not shoot the scales.   It doesn't seem fair ( I was reading Katary's experiences) that some people can lose so much in a week.   Then I had a chat to myself:  Did I go over 20 carbs? No.  Did I overdo portion sizes? No.  Did I over snack? No.  So I was good.  I feel better.
There was a little of "why should I bother" but overrode that.  Stayed on track.  Thinking positively.  I'm sure it will all work out in the end.

So 'ta dah' - 1lb is consigned to the universe to find another home

PS - those scales better watch out though - it was touch and go!   :D

General Discussion / Eating Cardboard
« on: May 05, 2012, 06:54:06 AM »
Just tried the GG crispbreads - so far it's like eating cardboard. I don't know what I expected. Decided to have some PB and jam on some for a snack.  I hope I get used to them.  Low carb/calorie count make a good choice but, other than that, will take some getting used to.  I tried the Walden's Farm Jam (0 carbs/cal/fat/sugars) - a bit like trying to spread jelly (jello), didn't want to co-operate but squished it down.  It was alright for what it was - not that good that you would want to put heaps on either though.  Who was it that quoted "what doesn't kill us makes us thinner"?  Never a truer word.

Thanks umpa - I don't know why I didn't think to do just that.  Talk about stating the obvious.
You like yours as a sidedish mouseissue.  I would eat them just like fruit (like they are).  Used to keep
them in the fruit bowl.  Now that I have to be aware of the extra carbs - I keep them in the pantry and buy only about 2-3 at a time    :'(

Ask Umpa / tomato sauce (ketchup)
« on: May 04, 2012, 06:22:33 AM »
hi umpa -I really miss tomatoes (I have made allowances for them in my carb count) and tomato sauce and as a pasta sauce base.  Is there a sugarfree recipe for tomato sauce you may have hidden somewhere?  I can post my t/s recipe to u but, as you would know, it has a lot of sugar, apples and of course those naughty sinful tomatoes.  Can you help?

Hi ho BigTex - what are u doing up in the early hours of the morning?  The time difference really throws me - here in Australia it's 7.05pm and Thursday 3 May.  So it's sort of like talking back to the future for me.   :)  Thanks for the welcome.

General Discussion / Need a Pat on Head Please
« on: May 03, 2012, 03:09:37 AM »
Before I started on the FtS a week and a half ago I agreed to do a bake day for a friend who was going away.  We belong to a small group of women who run the local craft shop which sells cakes of a friday morning.  I didn't want to really deal this closely with temptation, but I had promised.  I have spent the last 6 hours baking brownies, mini baked cheesecakes, sausage rolls, quiches, biscuits, trifles and still to prepare pizza scrolls. I have not had one lick of a finger or spoon.  The cravings are edging in it all looks so good.  On the plus size I drank my quota of water in a relatively short time.  Everytime I wanted to eat ..taste..devour ... I had a glass of water.  So I want my Pat on Head Please.   :)

I don't think they had many fitness issues Andrea.  Dads usually went and did a full day's work, came home and worked around the house and mums did the housework without all the modern (supposedly) conveniences.  Not much in the way of computers and tv.  Takeaway food was almost none existant (it might have been otherwise in the States), the closest we got in Australia was fish and chips (fries to you I suppose) a very rare treat.  They didn't have prepackaged anything.  God I'm showing my age  ::)  It's made me think of my mothers dieting efforts - Limmits biscuits.  You had one in place of meals with a drink.  When I was older I remember reading the label and it had something like 300 cal per biscuit and thinking you would be better off have a meal.  It was like a giant icing-filled orange oreo.  I shudder to think how many carbs were in it.

You're officially my hero Doug.  Thank you for taking the time out to do that for me.  The photo was taken at my daughter's wedding 2 years ago (how time flies).  After that I put on a little bit more weight and grew out the curls (not to mention adding the odd wrinkle).  I prefer to be immortalised with a nice photo rather than one where I have just dug up the garden or been covered in dust, paint or whatever I have just been working on.  Though when it comes to before and after shots I will be picking the worst photo I possibly can so my after photo will be so dramatic.  haha ;D  Thanks again :)
