Title: toasted my GG crackers
Post by: ladyluck on February 08, 2012, 11:48:25 AM
Today I thought I would try something different and toast my GG crackers, I put low carb peanut butter and a smiggent(sp) is that really a word of low carb jam. It was yummmmmmmmmmy! It's hard to believe I'm excited over GG crackers, the only trick is you can't toast them to long maybe 1min on low setting, they will burn easy.

If you want them to stay really crunchy store them in the fridge  ;)

But the crunchier they are, the more saliva they suck out of your mouth when you try to swallow them.  My husband runs them through water (very quickly) and then loads them up.  It takes away some of the sawdust texture.  At our house, we lovingly refer to Brancrisp as shingles.

We call them ground plywood! :D :D :D :D :D

Always have a beverage handy when eating these little guys.
Otherwise, they can be tough to swallow.

It's funny toasting them takes some of the toughness out of them. I'm starting to like them more and more, I guess they just grow on you lol.

Has anyone tried steaming them to soften them up? I'm thinking....wrapping them in a damp paper towel and nuking for ten seconds? I may try that. Not to the point that they fall apart....just to soften a bit. I may give it a try!

I answered my own question. If you wrap them in a damp paper towel and nuke, they will soften up. I had them with some low carb chili tonight. :)

Great idea to nuke them.  They are tough to swallow.  Ladyluck I have been craving PB and J!!  I will be trying this tonight for a snack!

I microwaved them to make them a little softer. Be careful, though. I forgot to watch it one time and the darn thing nearly caught on fire.

I haven't tried the GG crackers, but after reading the comments about them, I'm wondering why anyone bothers with them with all the great cracker and bread recipes here?

Rena's near-fire experience just confirms the "sawdust" nature of these things.

SarahC, I use them because I can stop at only one!

:D :D :D :D :D

I honestly don't eat them very often. I can leave them in the cupboard for MONTHS and they're still just as crispy as when I first opened them. I do like them with a thick slice of cheddar. But even so, that's not too often.

:D :D :D :D :D

Hi Sarah! :)

In a word, convenience.
I usually have one with Beanit Butter and SF jam or cream cheese and my morning coffee.

Although they don't taste very good plain from the package, they do taste good with something on them.

I like the fiber in them especially on a low carb diet. I haven't tried the creamcheese  and jam yet Tony, I'll have to try that one.
