Title: Low Carb French Fries!
Post by: Doug Varrieur on August 04, 2014, 08:59:06 AM
YES you can have french fries on a  low carb diet, you simply need to change what you make them out of :) Instead of high starch potatoes use turnips!

They really are delicious :)

peel your turnips and cut into french fries then deep fry to a golden brown. Serve with Heinz reduced sugar ketchup.

We haven't tried the turnip fries yet, but we do like jicama fries!!  Because the jicama is always crunchy, I cook it in a pressure cooker to soften.  When it is cool, I slice into fries and freeze in portion sizes.  Burgers and fries tonight!! :D :D

Hi, romarc! :)

Turnip fries consistency is very close to tradition potato french fries, just much tastier! ;D

The trick is to adjust the frying time and temperature just right.
Just watch the color. They are just right between light brown and brown.
A little experimentation, and you'll have it figured out. ;)

So you are saying turnips don't have the high sugar content?

That's right, Ellie! :)

But you still must take care not too eat too much of them.

Eggplant fries are still my favorite! :)

My favorite for fries has been turnips. :)
I'll make them in the oven or fry them stove top.

I've never tried eggplant for fries, Umpa.
How do you make them?
