Title: Low Carb Fried Green Tomatoes

These are sooooo good :)

Low Carb Fried Green Tomatoes

2 large firm green tomatoes
2 eggs
1 cup ground pork rind flour
1/4 cup crisco or peanut oil

sour cream mixed with chopped chives for a dip  


Slice tomatoes to quarter inch slices.
Beat eggs in bowl.
Dip tomato slices in egg, then in flour set on platter, continue till all coated.
Melt 1/4 cup crisco in frypan (yes crisco I am from south carolina)
place tomatoes in pan and fry till light brown and crisp.
drain on paper towels.

Serve

Umpa,
         This sounds good, But it reminds me of another movie :o I have had regular fried green tomatoes yum! I'm going to makes some soon.

I love the movie Fried Green Tomatoes!My favorite line"I am older and i have better insurance as she rams the car!!!I gotta tell you phil, this is a good recipe.You can even reheat them the next day!which is something i couldn't do with my white flour ones I used to make. :)

Umpa,
        I'm going to send pics of my tomato plant its doing real good. I'm going to have some fried green tomatoes soon.

     Could I use butter insted of crisco?

i would use olive oil before butter because butter will scorch too quickly.The oil needs to be hot to get the tomatoes crispy, these cook quick. I really need to grow tomatoes this year, the prices are getting crazy!

I thought olive oil lost some thing if ya use it to fry I'll have to look it up. I'm probably off on that though. I'll give olive oil a try.

Olive oil has a lower flash point Phil you are correct , but it will work for the tomatoes.You maintain that nice italian flavor.Try them with the sliced fresh mozzerella its really good!
Doug said to tell you extra virgin will give you a stronger olive oil taste than light olive oil.

My tomato plant is starting to go crazy. I thought it was a bigger tomato's. I think it my be small cherry type they are grape size and starting to turn red time to pluck some.

YUM! I just bought some tennessee tomatoes for doug, they were huge slicers and they were heart shaped! :D

I have a bumper crop of big "maters" this year and fried green tomatoes are one of my fav's Give this recipe a try and enjoy those maters!

For a Yankee he makes killer tomatoes! :D
