i'd also check the count on the taco mix & the salsa???  the only things you have to concern yourself with on FTS is carbs & portions.... low fat/ no fat foods have more carbs because they use sugar to make up for the flavor that is lost when they take the fat out:) FAT doesnt make you FAT..... sugar/carbs do :o

After you read the book, you'll see what we mean. I'm glad you posted it and were able to learn about it. I was clueless about it before I read the book and started being active on this reader's forum. You will learn quickly.

Hi Aly, time for your first FTS school project :) I want you to look at every label and calculate all the carbs in your new recipe. Here's how you figure your carbs,

first- check the carbs listed on the label, now subtract any fiber and sugar alcohols that may or may not be listed....that will give you "net carbs" (carbs-fiber-sugar alcohols = net carbs)  NOTE:- Sugar Alcohols are not SUGAR, they are the sugar replacement in sugar free products and have little glycemic effect. Make sure NOT to subtract SUGAR...

Secondly- check the serving size and make certain to multiply the number of servings you used times net carbs....write it down and go to the next product.

Finally add it all up and you'll know the total carbs for the entire recipe......now divide by recipe servings too determine how many carbs you'll be eating per serving.... report back :)

This is the link that was posted of fb for low carb tacos!?! I would love the replacement to the taco seasoning in the package!! And do you eat your tacos as a taco salad or is there a low carb tortilla out there that is less than 6 carbs!?! (Can't afford that!!)  ::)

Thanks for your help!!  ;D

Hi MommaB

Here is the recipe I like to use. The Hubs is from Texas and can eat a taco almost every day...LOL   I don't even miss the packs anymore  ;)  Here is a link that I posted to use for a taco soup I made.  http://www.fattoskinny.net/index.php?topic=3621.0  I posted the link to the web site I origanally found this recipe there.  I know Joagain posted a recipe like it but I couldn't find it.  :-[  Maybe she will chime in.   I believe it is very close.   :)

SEASONING FOR TACOS

1 tsp chili powder
3/4 tsp paprika
3/4 tsp cumin
1/2 tsp onion powder
1/2 tsp salt
3/8 tsp garlic powder
pinch cayenne

1. Combine and add to 1 pound of hamburger browned and drained. Add a couple of tablespoons of water and simmer with spices. Makes enough for 1 lb. hamburger (4.5 carbs for the whole batch)(4-6 servings - 1 carb each) To make it more like the taco meat that you make with the package (to many carbs  )  I like to add taco sauce to it to thicken.  Make sure you adjust the carb count though..... so yummy

Also I like to make up a big batch of the spices and keep it on the shelf in a spice jar ready to go.  It makes a great chili seasoning

I usually just have a taco salad for mine but occasionally I like to drape a low carb tortilla or one of those low carb pitas over a oven safe bowl and bake for a few minutes to crisp up.  They make yummy taco salad bowls.   There is always the lettuce leaf...they make great taco shells as well  ;)
