Title: Long time no here! But it ain't good news :(
Post by: eliruthy on November 26, 2013, 07:47:47 PM
Hello old friends!
I have had a ROUGH ROUGH year.  Bad.  Funerals, moving, gallbladder surgery---you name it.  Needless to say, I'm back with bad bad news....GAINED.  Almost everything I lost :o  I'm SOOOOOOOOO disappointed in myself and it's adding to my stress and misery!  I had my gallbladder out in June and I think it's contributed to weight gain also--I would almost bet it has.  I NEED HELP.  I feel like my metabolism has slowed down ALOT and even tho I have tried OVER AND OVER to stay on track---fail fail fail.  It's really unreal that I let this happen...and it happened fast  :(  Please, can you help me get back on track?????  Desperate.

Hi Eliruthy, sorry you had a bad year and I'm sorry you've gained back all the weight BUT you do know what to do. Start by re-reading the book then empty out the cabinets, fridge, pantry of all those carb laden foods and bring them to a food bank. You learn to walk 1 step at a time and our eating plan is no different....1 meal at a time. Make every bite delicious and fulfilling, enjoy your FTS recipes  8)

Eliruthy...I know where you're coming from...especially the weight gain.  Just remember that you are in control of what you put into your mouth.  I started back Sunday and have already lost 7 pounds...I feel great and know that I am taking charge of my health. You have all the tools to succeed such as Doug's book and this website...Just Do It!

Thanks all!  My biggest problem is when I get stressed, or am unprepared and desperate for food---I fail...and instead of starting right back....I allow myself to keep failing.  Then I gain more---then I am depressed and round and round I go!  I'm concerned that my gallbladder being out has messed something up digestion wise.  If I can just get myself to STAY STRONG and lose it again it would make me soooooooooo happy.  All my nice small sized clothes are hanging in the closet, unwearable :(   UGH.  Just a terrible year...Thanksgiving tomorrow---so Friday, I begin....again.

eliruthy - life can really 'suck' sometimes.  There isn't much choice but to deal, and sometimes it is really hard to drag ourselves up from the 'quagmire'.   Choices have consequences - in life or food.  You've chosen to deal and that's FANTASTIC.  Forget the past;  as tony suggested today is the first day of the rest of your life.  You know what to do and we are all here for you.  Get yourself in the mindset and away you go.

If you want encouragement, we are here.  If you need suggestions, we are here.  If you want to rant and rave, you got it - we are here.

Check in often, post often, get to know us and we you.  We got ya.

Eliruthy.... you sound as if eating steaks, chops, salmon, chicken, lobster, crab, turkey, sausage, and a zillion other proteins, great veggies, wonderful FTS desserts is a punishment!  Look, enough is enough. TODAY you are to empty all the carb laden foods out of your house therefor out of your reach. Everyone in the home goes on the FTS plan at least until you've made it through detox and new habits have formed.

Ruthy, it's only food, you are in control of it, it is NOT in control of you. We eat great and so will you  8)

Make that Ticker and watch the weight go down.  You can do this.  It is so much nicer to lose weight (http://www.fattoskinny.com/) than it is to gain weight.

Hi, eliruthy! :)

Like many of us here, I completely understand the emotion-food-diet-failure cycle.
And I sympathize with how you feel... It's maddening, frustrating, and a vicious cycle.
Like a merry-go-round, when we get tired of the ride, we can choose to just step off.

Like our bodies, we OWN how we feel!
If we choose to feel negative, then we reap negative results.
And choosing to be positive, will bring us joy!

Kudos to you for deciding to follow Doug's advice.
The successes you will have with FTS, will reflect in your attitude toward other things in your life.
Your life will be brighter! :) :) :)

We care about you.
And are right here to help you whenever you need us!

You CAN do this, eliruthy!

Still staying the course! 3.6 down feels like a million to go!  Seems like before I can get 10 down I have a catastrophe and eat my way through it!  Trying hard!!!

Of course you already know this, but you have to have FTS friendly food already prepared so when you are feeling the need to comfort yourself with food you can grab a low carb snack rather than chips.  When you have nothing but junk available, you will not be able to resist eating it.  Being prepared for the cravings is easier than resisting them.  Staying smart is easier than staying strong.  Eventually you will redevelop the habits and staying strong will become easier too.

We are all here with you.

Hi, eliruthy! :)

Congrats on the great start!... 3.6 pounds in such a short time is great! ;D ;D ;D

As you may recall, I was one of the very slowest losers in the FTS family.

But by NOT focusing on what I did not lose, I focused on the fact that everyday,
I was helping my body heal from many years of carb abuse.
Over time, I became much healthier and lost a bunch too! 8)

So adjust your attention and attitude toward improving your health.
The pound loss will follow... They have NO choice! ;)

Eliruthy, you also need to be forgiving of yourself and compassionate to you as if you are dealing with someone who is in need of comfort. Be hard but not harsh to yourself. We're here for you. Like Tony and Doug and everyone else here has said, one meal at a time and preparation.

Hi Eliruthy -- we're in the same boat....I've been sick the last couple weeks (going to doc in the morning) and I've been "feeding FRENZY mode" it seems.

There is a lot of good advice to help us get back on track.

I have come to the conclusion I need a Plan B for sickness, a Plan C for when life gets too busy, a Plan D for a combination of when I'm sick AND life is too busy.

So tomorrow morning I'm starting my detox.....how is your detox going?  The doc I'm going to see for this illness -- second week of cold that won't go away and have extreme fatigue and wheezing and just walking a few steps makes me out of breath....but the doc I'm going to prescribes low carb WOE so that will be refreshing vs my primary care doc who believes "any diet will work if you eat less"....blah blah....

So welcome back and let's make a plan ahead for what we will do to stay on track when life hands us lemons next time...

Elizabeth

Hi, Elizabeth! :)

I have not had ONE cold, flu etc.. since I've been true to the FTS lifestyle.
For decades before, I could count on AT LEAST two bouts of bronchitis and two colds every year.
And many years, bouts with flu were common, even with flu shots.

It seems that most ailments like these (bacterial and viral) need elevated blood sugar to thrive.
When we eat few carbs and our blood sugar is lower, they do not do well.

If you stay on track with FTS, you may not need to worry much about "Plan B".
But we should all have a "Plan C". Because sooner or later, our lives will be busy.

I hope you fell better, soon! :) :) :)
