CARB Clarification...
« on: May 07, 2010, 09:39:00 AM »
Okay, when I was pregnant with gestational diabetes the dietician told me that 15 GRAMS is what it takes to make 1  CARB.  So with the FTS eating plan...are we supposed to eat under 20 GRAMS or 20 CARBS a day?  I just want to make sure I have my family on the correct path as were staying to less than 20 GRAMS a day.  ???

Thanks, Jennifer

I'm not sure what the dietitian was talking about with that formula. Here's the correct formula;

1 gram of sugar from any source equals 1 gram of carbs. It's also the same in reverse, 1 gram of carbs equals 1 gram of sugar.

Stay under 20 "net carbs" per day in total to lose weight

The only things counted in total carbs on a label that I want you to subtract to arrive at "net carbs" are dietary fiber and sugar alcohols if present.

Does this clear it up for you? If not write back so I'm sure you're clear.

If something don't have sugar alcohol do you still get to subtract the fiber
