Blood Sugar Levels
« on: June 01, 2010, 11:01:30 PM »
I am so excited!

I just checked my blood sugar and it's 103.

My doctor said that it would stay high for these first 3 or 4 months. WRONG!!! That was on March 11th.

I'm looking forward to getting my results from my upcoming blood work. I do the blood work at the end of this month and see the doctor on July 1st. I am hoping to see him SHOCKED at my numbers!

That's great news! Amazing how a little proper information will help.

Hey. Sorry to revive this old thread, but I used the site search and enter blood sugar levels and this topic showed up.
My question is - what are normal and expected blood sugar levels for someone who is 27 years old? Are there any "normal" blood sugar levels at all, or does blood sugar level depend on individual alone? I've bought a finger prick tool and want to do blood sugar test. My problem is that I have a sweet tooth and that I've been eating so much chocolate in the past few years that I'm worried that I've damaged my pancreas? Is this even possible? Someone told me that eating so much sugar can lead to diabetes (even though there is no history of diabetes in my family)?
Anyway, I've found this values for blood sugar levels:
less than 6.1 (140) on an empty stomach - normal blood sugar level
between 6.1 (140) and 6.9 (169) on an empty stomach - limit value
more than 7.0 (172) on an empty stomach - possible diabetes
more than 11.0 (260) anytime - possible diabetes
Are this values ok?
I am doing the finger prick test on monday... hope all goes well.

Hi, jbb85! :)

One really nice thing about getting healthier with FTS, your blood sugar and triglycerides levels will lower into normal levels.

One thing to remember...
The most accurate blood glucose test is done after fasting at least 8 hours beforehand.
My doctor prefers 12 hours.
That includes fasting from caffeinated coffee! Caffeine is known to slightly elevate blood glucose. :o

If you do it at any other time, the readings may vary quite a bit depending on what you ate and how long ago you ate it (from 100 to 150).

According to Virginal Mason Medical Center, if taking a random test,
an expected "normal" blood glucose range is in the low to mid 100s.
