Soluble Fiber and Insoluble Fiber
« on: June 16, 2010, 11:49:48 AM »
What is Soluble Fiber and Insoluble Fiber ...can it be subtracted from the Carb count like Dietary Fiber and Fiber are?
I seen them listed on a cereal label indented a bit right under the Dietary Fiber count...

Both soluble and insoluble fiber are undigested. They are therefore not absorbed into the bloodstream. Instead of being used for energy, fiber is excreted from our bodies. Soluble fiber forms a gel when mixed with liquid, while insoluble fiber does not. Insoluble fiber passes through our intestines largely intact.

CAUTION!! When looking at the label if the fibers are listed separately make sure they are not already included in the fiber total so you don't subtract them twice.
