General Discussion / The Story of three arteries (Mine)
« on: April 08, 2012, 10:36:57 AM »
Howdy Folks,

Been a little busy of late, sorry for not posting or replying. On to the story.

Last Monday, my VA heart doctor said a cardio CT Scan from a week earlier
had come back and things weren't looking good. A cardio cath was scheduled for
last Thursday with instruction not to wait if I had chest pains (even little ones) go
immediately to the emergency room in Jacksonville if possible to be admitted and
watched until my scheduled hearth cath on Thursday. 6pm last Wednesday I was on
the way to the emergency room, 1pm Thursday I was on the table in the cardio
cath lab (acting goofing from the meds), Friday morning the news.

You have three arteries feeding the heart muscle, my right was 100% blocked
at the stint location, but had grown numerous small bypass arteries, so it was
working at about 70% (good considering), middle one 30% blocked (ok for now)
and the left one was 100% open an going strong no plaque noted.

My doctors say low carb and low fat(we know there wrong here) may have just
saved my life. Am I going to stay with the FTS Lifestyle you betcha, I was FTS'ing
about a year before I found Doug, UMPA and FTS and I really believe it saved my
life. Now I'm still losing weight and know what I have to do (Stay a FTS'er for life)

Thanks Doug, you helped me dodge a big one for sure.

Ask Umpa / Southern Style GRITS with a twist
« on: February 26, 2012, 12:03:10 PM »
Miss UMPA,

This morning I had GRITS,eggs and bacon for breakfast REALLY.

From another blog I got this product and brought a can home.

     Juanita's Foods "Mexican Style Hominy"

This is what I did::

1. Drained the liquid out into a strainer.
2. Placed the hominy on paper towels and patted them dry as possible
3. Into oven at 200 deg. for 15 minutes to further dry them out.
4. Into food processor , pulsing until near consistence of grits
5. pan fried half half cup with Tsp bacon grease, butter, salt and pepper.
6. Mixed half cup hominy and boiling water to cover, then add the
    same fixings from above.

Pan fried close but no ring.
Boiled closer.

If you did the Southern Fried egg trick (Over easy on top of a pile
of grits and cut up, you know the fried egg/grits yellow plate breakfast)
, I think it would pass for the real thing. Still working on it though.

So , I will ask the master to have a go at it , if you would be so kind.

We both know grits without fixin's are as close to glue as you can legally
eat with a fork or spoon.

OBTW--Can says::

Total Carbs 10gr
Fiber 6gr
This would be 4gr net I believe
I am going to call them Monday to verify that count.

My testers one spoon only--MissyBelle BOO-HISS

General Discussion / The Single Low Carb Life Style
« on: February 18, 2012, 10:01:30 PM »
Whether by choice, chance or destiny many of the FTS family live the single
life. We enjoy no arguments over TV shows, movies to watch, which side
of the bed, is the seat to be left up or down and 100's of other small matters
of discussion between partners. Some I miss for sure others oh well.

The item of this post is a simple one your ideas how to use FTS to a sngle
person's best advantage. I'm not talking about the ends and outs of the
meals, they stand by themselves as excellent and wholesome, but ideas
like can be found right here
http://www.mydailymoment.com/recipes/omelet_in_a_bag.php as and
example. I'm going to test these to see if I can freeze this "Omelet in a Bag"
and have ready instantly for breakfast a big advantage to a single person.
To cut to the chase, you my FTS family have a wealth of knowledge and
ideas , let me hear a few I and other singles would appreciate them very
much.

A possum is a flat animal that sleeps in the middle of the road.

There are 5,000 types of snakes and 4,998 of them live in the South.

There are 10,000 types of spiders. All 10,000 of them live in the South, plus a couple no one's seen before.

If it grows, it'll stick ya. If it crawls, it'll bite cha.

Onced and Twiced are words.

It is not a shopping cart, it is a buggy!

People actually grow, eat and like okra.

Fixinto is one word. It means I'm going to do that.

There is no such thing as lunch. There is only dinner and then there's supper.

Iced tea is appropriate for all meals and you start drinking it when you're two. We do like a little tea with our sugar. It is referred to as the Wine of the South.

Backwards and forwards means I know everything about you.

The word jeet is actually a question meaning, 'Did you eat?'

You don't have to wear a watch, because it doesn't matter what time it is, you work until you're done or it's too dark to see.

You don't PUSH buttons, you MASH em.

Ya'll is singular. All ya'll is plural.

All the festivals across the state are named after a fruit, vegetable, grain, insect, or animal.

You carry jumper cables in your car - for your OWN car.

You only own five spices: salt, pepper, mustard, Tabasco and ketchup.

The local papers cover national and international news on one page, but require 6 pages for local high school sports, the motor sports, and gossip.

Everyone you meet is a Honey, Sugar, Miss(first name) or Mr.(first name)

You think that the first day of deer season is a national holiday.

You know what a hissy fit is..

Fried catfish is the other white meat.

We don't need no dang Driver's Ed. If our mama says we can drive, we can drive!!!

You understand these jokes and forward them to your Southern friends and those who just wish they were from the SOUTH.
