Title: hard time
Post by: jacksprattswife on January 07, 2011, 11:09:54 PM
I have done so well on this plan over the last year, getting 20lbs off etc. etc. but now that the weather is cold i am finding it extremely difficult again.  And i thought I had this thing licked!  Any one else dealing with this winter syndrome?

What are you craving that's causing you a problem?

This might help you warm up on cold days.  Try making some soup with Bertolli Alfredo Sauce, heavy cream and water.  Steam and chop up some broccoli and add to this mixture with some shredded cheese.  Be mindful of portion sizes.  I was just thinking today how excited I am about Spring coming...even moreso about how much weight I can lose by then.  It also might help you to buy some different herbal teas.  Hang in there!

What helps me when I want something warm, creamy and filling:
boil one bag of frozen broccoli in 3 cups of chicken broth, put in food processor with one block of softened cream cheese, add seasonings to taste. It makes the creamiest richest cream of broccoli soup you will ever have!

I make a black bean chili too. I'd love to see Umpa's recipe and see what I can do to jazz mine up!

Did you order the new FTS Bakery Book?  There are quite a few scone recipes in there.

maybe you can take jicama thinly sliced and chopped with cinnamon/xylitol and use it in pancakes

SherriPie, thanks! I'm like Doug and Umpa. I say there is a substitute for EVERYTHING you want. I love the challenge of finding it. I just need somebody to tell me how to make some nice fat dumplings!

Dumplings...............HHHHHMMMMM.............. ::)

How to make dumplings (without starch or other high carbs) that will not disintegrate when placed in hot liquid...
This one has stumped everyone I have contacted about it.

But if anyone can solve this, you can Umpa!!!
We have faith in you! :) :) :)

I find that I am craving carbs when it's very cold and want to eat so I feel your struggle.  I'll have to try some of the soup as well!

Golden flax seed recipes are your friend!

Are you saying that golden flax seed is the "mystery ingredient" to make dumplings that don't fall apart in hot liquid?
If so, how do you use it?

No Tony, that comment was for Iz :) I find that if I ever crave anything carby golden flax recipes always solve the problem. One minute muffins, pancakes etc... .As you know the bakery book is full of all different recipes using this wonderful flour. As far as dumplings go........couldn't care less about them. Didn't eat them when I was a fat guy so I never got hooked.

Thanks Doug!  I love all my recipes with flax seed...just haven't had time to bake...that's part of the problem I guess. lol  Need to take a day and make a bunch of items and store them so I can have them when craving. ;)

It will be time well spent Izzet to get a bunch of baking done to have on hand.  I agree with Doug about the flax things being comfort food on a cold day.  In the summer I eat lots of veggies, but right now I need the Flax bread, 1 Min. Muffins, Flax pancakes and Sensato Hot Cereal.  I have even been adding a couple of tablespoons of golden flax meal to my smoothies.  Hope you get yourself back on track.  Just set a daily plan for yourself and then follow that plan.  You will feel so much better if you have that under control and then the rest of your daily life will follow.  Have a great week!!
