Title: Hi There New to site
Post by: bigjoe on November 24, 2011, 10:08:17 PM
I bought the book ( e-book) a few years ago and I am glad I saved it. I stated to review the book (again) and hope to start lowcarbing on soon. At 327 lbs it sucks to be big. I had the lap band done back
in Dec 2005 and my pre-surgery weight was 323 Lbs... I was doing great.. Watching the amount of food I ate ( was not counting calories per say but I weight everything..No more then 4 oz at a time per meal).. I exercise every morning...before I started work at 2PM... Got down to 267 lbs ...Felt good, started buying new clothes at the local  walmart ( not kingsizedirect.com). Then My hours change.. started working 8am to 5pm... my workout went from 4-5 days a week to zero per week. I started to gain my weight back and had to start buying bigmans clothes again. Well now with the holidays all the potlucks at work and so forth I really need to keep an eye out.....

I would like to know is there a simple menu to follow .... I don't really cook but I can do boiled eggs/ lunch meats and cheese/ hamburgers ( no bun) ....Etc

Thanks Doug for the E-mail and referring me to the site.

Need all the help I can get/  Thanks  Joe

Welcome to the forum, bigjoey! I'm sorry you've put the weight back on! How discouraging!!  But now that you've made the committment to FTS, you'll see how good you feel - and you don't HAVE to exercise to lose weight (http://www.fattoskinny.com/)! Do get some almond flour (or make your own using whole almonds and a grinder) and flaxseed meal and check out the One Minute Muffin. So easy and quick - and DELICIOUS! It's very versatile and filling. I like it as a quick breakfast.

Sometimes I make it in a small shallow pan, cut it in half and use it like bread to make a quick grilled ham and cheese sandwich.  The whole process takes less than 5 minutes. You can even use it for a hamburger bun. Recipe follows.

Look up some of the recipes posted here and get the ingredients.  Just DO IT. You'll get better as you go along.

One-Minute Muffin

  1 Tablespoon  butter
1/4  cup  flaxseed meal -- (can use almond meal, oat fiber, coconut flour or a  mixture)
  1/2  teaspoon  baking powder
  1 egg
1  teaspoon  xylitol (or 1-2 Spenda pkts or 1 T S/F flavored syrup Torani/Da Vinci)

Melt butter in a coffee cup or measuring cup. Add rest of ingredients and mix well – microwave approximately 50-60 seconds (depending on micro wattage).  Turn out and let cool.  Muffin top should look shiny and a little moist. Serve w/butter or cream cheese while warm or plastic wrap for later.

BigJoey, when I first started FTS, all I wanted was quick to fix/eat food, and I soon became discouraged by the 'low-carb diet' I assumed. It was boring and I didn't want to look another hard boiled egg in the, uh, face! So finally I had to branch out and try the recipes. I don't particularly like to cook these days, but Doug has some really easy recipes that are delicious! I highly recommend the Macafoney and Cheese dish - the recipe is on the www.fattoskinny.com (http://www.fattoskinny.com) site - there's a video of Doug making this dish. It's not hard at all and you'll be delighted with it if you crave mac and cheese! You'll find all the support you could wish for on this forum. There are plenty of dishes that don't require fancy ingredients. You post any questions and someone will answer you right away!  :) :)

Hey Bigjoey!!  I found out that the powdered creamers I had been using before FTS were full of carbs.  I relate.  Heavy whipping cream (read that label for 0 carb, it's out there) and Land of Lakes Moo Moo are great 0 carb replacements.  I prefer Moo Moo by Land of Lakes.  I have one large mug of coffee with 2 Moo Moo every day.  Sam's carries them in a large box of 192 to the box, I didn't think I would be able to use them before the "use by" date, but I'm giving it my best shot LOL.  Here's a link for what they look like.

LOL Cindy, my husband makes the coffee every AM.  I am always asking him how much sweetener did he use, it just always seems I need (want) it sweeter  :o  Did you check out the link on the moo moo's?

I had leg cramps at night during the beginning too. I think it was from not getting enough water. Upped my intake and got a good multivitamin and they settled down. You are rocking this Joey! Congrats on a great week.

You should get yourself a counter for your signature. It helps keep track of what you lost but it also helps you track when and how much you lost. It give you like a graph and you can see all your different check in's the date and it shows your downward spiral. I love it and it helps remind me where I don't want to go too again.

You can make a ticker by clicking on someone else's ticker, then when the new page opens, click on 'create your own ticker' - go from there. It's kind of nifty! :D

Thanks for the tip... Just checking in...doing good so far....still sticking to my goal of getting under 319 by Friday.  The other day went to Village inn for breakfast. Had a ham and cheese omelet,no hash browns of course. First time I had an omelet that had cream cheese in it... I must say it was pretty good.

Very cold this AM... Went out to get a cup of coffee read 3 degrees and that was at 7:00AM..

I really hate the cold!!!!

I even hit the gym 3 times this week ( 30 Min ) on treadmill and very light weight training.

Would like to know if you weight in weekly what is your avg weight loss (http://www.fattoskinny.com/) per week.

Goal for next week weight in :  318 lbs

Hi Joey! :)

Since no two of us are alike, weekly weight loss (http://www.fattoskinny.com/) averages will vary from week to week and from person to person.
Therefore, "averages" may or may not apply to you.

Also remember that, whether we like it or not, our bodies have their own clocks and calendars.
So if your following the FTS rules and find yourself losing at a rate less than expected, don't worry.
Part of your journey is learning about how your body reacts to what you eat.

As you proceed through your FTS journey, it's OK to adjust your goals to be realistic with how your body loses.
Since you are within 1 pound of reaching your mini-goal, you did GREAT! :)

Congratulations!!! :) :) :) :) :)

We have an 02 Harley ElectraGlide Standard.  The hubby would love to get an Ultra Classic.  I'm afraid soon we may have to go with a trike; he has rheumatoid arthritis and he's knees are always the worst.  He hasn't reached the point of accepting that just yet though!  I believe TooSweet rides too... I think they went to Sturgis this past summer.

If you're going to lose weight (http://www.fattoskinny.com/) and keep it off, make sure you set realistic goals.  Healthy weight loss (http://www.fattoskinny.com/) is 1-2lbs per week; some people will lose more than that, some less.  I'm always just happy if my numbers keep going down, however little at a time it is.

Goal for next week weight in :  318 lbs

Well my goal for this week was 318 lbs:  I weighed in at 319.6 Lbs ( at least I got under 320 lbs).
Had a few bumps on the road this week eating outside the box.
I am getting better in controlling my sweet cravings especially during the evening. I just have a cup of hot diet chocolate cocoa( I find the one with the lowest carb content ) and it does the job.

Joey I was a HUGE sweets addict. I wanted sweets everyday, all the time. If you really want to rock this you need to stay completely away from all carbs. Try two weeks with no SF sweets or anything and be completely faithful to the FTS plan. At the end of the two weeks you won't crave a thing. I can now sit a table full of sugary fun stuff and it doesn't bother me at all, you will be able too also!!

sherripie is correct .Get through two weeks ,no sweets (real sugar)and you will lose that craving. After that  if you do want something thats what the Bakery Book is for.Don't deprive yourself or you won't suceed. ;)

If you can get through this first little bit of resisting the cravings, you will accomplish two things: you will strengthen your will power and be proud of yourself AND you will get past the issue of having cravings.  I used to love sweets, but now I find I dn't even crave the SF replacements.   It gives a person a sense of control and power to not give in to one's previous old habits that were destructive.

I've been giving myself treats like seafood, bacon-wrapped fillet mignon, etc. so I won't feel deprived this holiday season and feel the need to indulge. Another neighbor came over with a loaf of banana bread, cookies and fudge. I was so glad that I had sf candy to turn to when I took a gander at that plate! I gave the goodies away quick. It's a real challenge to resist all the sweets! I don't know how we became convinced that we're obligated to over-eat at this time of year. Maybe it's all those sugarplums dancing in our heads! :D

Well another week down and another weight in... Christmas week was tough but is now over. Wish everyone a safe and happy new year!

1/1/11- 341.0

11/25/11-328.0
12/02/11-320.4
12/09/11-319.6
12/23/11-320.0
12/30/11-319.0

Because I log my weight down on my calender just happen to go back to January 01,2011 ( because we always have a new years resolution right ;) )  I checked my weight back then I was 341 Lbs.. The weight loss (http://www.fattoskinny.com/) is due to trying the different diets and on/off a diet.  I think LC works the best.

Way to go Joey!!  If you're like me, once you've seen that you can make it through Christmas.....you can make it through ANYTHING!!  So you are down a total of 22!  WOW!!   I had lost a few pounds prior to starting fts, and I still count that in on my total.   YOu need to get a ticker on your profile!  It's the highlight of my DAY to be able to login and change the weight as it goes down!!   Congratulations!!!!  ;D

Wow Maddiesmom - you are doing FANTASTIC!!  So proud of you!  Joey, you will be following her footsteps; I have faith that you can do this!  I've struggled through this holiday season, have to say I'm glad the "eating season" is over lol...  I've bounced up and down the last couple weeks, we will see where I'm at tomorrow when I weigh in.
Had our holiday party on Wednesday for work...I have to say - having some 50 people freak out about how good you look (I've also done a drastic hairstyle change to go with the weight loss (http://www.fattoskinny.com/)!) is a HUGE boost to the ego!  Makes me more determined to keep going!

Happy New Years everyone!  May the new year find us all healthier and happier!

I was listening to Doug's CD today and the one part I like is when he says eat only when your hungry. Many times we hear make sure u eat a big breakfast first thing in the morning. Well most of the time I am not hungry in the Morning. I like my Morning coffee and will be good until 11:30 AM.
Glad I am not the only one thinking this way...

As an incentive to drink more water, remember that plain water flushes fat from your body. Now that I've cut down on my coffee intake, I'm drinking more water - sometimes just plain hot water. I had an older friend who used to drink plain hot water with every meal. She claimed it was good for digestion. :)

You are doing fine, Joey! :)
Just drink more water and get more sleep. ;)

And about water... VERY cold water causes our bodies to burn more energy.

This is because the body seeks to maintain that 98.6 mark.
And when you add something cold, it must burn energy to rebalance the temperature.

Although it's winter, I still drink ice water even though my wife thinks I'm nuts! :D :D :D

A little more lemon and some Stevia and you'll have Lemonade! I asked for lemon for my water in a restaurant once and they brought a whole cut-up lemon, and I did just that! ;D

So I emptied the ice bin and it made new ice - clunk, clunk, clunk all night! :o

Hi Joey!  Great to hear from you!  Way to go on the loss!  I have heard that "slow & steady wins the race".  I am just thankful for ANY loss that shows up on the scale.  We KNOW it's going to happen if we stay on the program, and we are not on any time frame.  We can do this!!   ;)

Way to go, Joey! :) :) :) :)

A number of us are slow losers here and are members of the "FTS Turtle Club".
Although we're slow, we are going in the right direction and will get to our goals in due time.

So no worries, Joey!
This is NOT a race... It's a lifestyle.
If you stick with it and not go back to your old ways, you'll reach your destination! ;D

5 lbs is great! Woohoo!

If you aren't eating sugar-free peanut butter cups, try Russell Stover's sugar-free pb cups. They are at Walmart in the candy section. Green bag. If the sweetener bothers your tummy, consider making your own. Umpa has terrific recipes! If your creamer is sugar-loaded, make your own using cream and sf sweetener and vanilla extract. Plan ahead and you can get through the weekends, too! You're in control, Joey. It's really not painful once you fully commit to FTS. It's just the mental transition that's hard. If you're not a cooker, start simple and dig in. You might really take to it!

One other thing, Joey... Sugar alcohols (sweeteners) can slow down weight loss (http://www.fattoskinny.com/).
If you want to lose faster, try going without them for a while and see what happens.

When I started FTS, I would drink coffee with sweeteners to replace sugar.
Within a couple of weeks, I noticed my loss slowing way down.
But after stopping, the loss sped back up again.

To this day, I drink my coffee black and love it that way!
It just shows that we can change our taste preferences and enjoy them too! ;)

I think what also has worked I cut cheese out of my diet ( or at least 95 pct of it) .

Hi bigjoey

I'm glad you have the willpower to give up your creamers.  I only drink one cup of coffee a day and need my creamer.  I have linked you to what I use (thanks to TooSweet!!).  Check 'em out.

Calcium deficiency can cause leg cramps.
Title: Re: Hi There New to site
Post by: SarahC on February 16, 2012, 11:26:19 AM
I get leg cramps when I don't drink enough plain water - all day long. A friend told me to take 1 teaspoon of baking soda in a glass of water. Guaranteed to stop the cramps. Haven't tried it yet - been drinking water.

Hi Joey! :)

Our bodies require lots of water to do everyday functions including weight loss (http://www.fattoskinny.com/).
Unlike other things, it's very difficult to get too much of it.

If you stopped eating cheeses, you may have cut off your only calcium source.
If you eat it in moderation, it is good for you and will help prevent calcium deficiency.
And in moderation, won't hamper your weight loss (http://www.fattoskinny.com/).

Another option is taking a calcium supplement.
However, the calcium in cheese is readily absorbed into the body.
The same can't be said for all the supplements.

Hi, Joe! :)

There will be times out weight will not change while we are shrinking in size.
I believe this is due to the body temporarily replacing lost fat with water.
Since water is heavier than fat, the scale will be fooled, but you won't! ;D

The 4th has celebrations loaded with VERY carby junk.
But as you know, we use replacements (e.g. faux potato salad using cauliflower).

Remember, success involves 90% preparation, 10% execution.
Pack some low carb snacks and treats with you.
If any require the fridge, bring them in a cooler.

Have a wonderful 4th! :) :) :)
