Are you familiar with my 15 minute rule? Today when you make a plate, make it your normal portion size. Now take a second plate and divide it in half. Eat the first smaller plate then wait 15 minutes...yes, you can hold out. :o See how you feel 15 minutes later. If you're still hungry eat a bit more then wait....do this until you feel "physically" satisfied. Mental satisfaction is something entirely different. It can raise havoc with your eating plan. "Boy that looks good I want to eat it" is not the same as physically needing fuel for the machine.
Interestingly enough when I find my portion sizes growing I go through the same process. I ALWAYS find myself NOT touching the second plate. After 15 minutes I analyze how I feel and in 100% of the cases I've eaten enough food. Give it a try and you may find you're eating TWICE the food you need. ;)

Good idea Doug!! Thanks for the reminder ;)

All of us eat way to much food. Wolves only eat once a week, sometimes 10 days. They travel long distances, burn fuel to stay warm and live in the harshest of elements but they only "Need" food weekly. I had a nice visit with an old Indian last year who is licensed to raise gray wolves. He has a large piece of acreage in the mountains all fenced in and keeps the packs completely wild within the confines of the range. His observations have been priceless. I asked him if the wolves would eat more food if they had it available to them more often....his answer was the food is there all the time if they want it.
I'm not suggesting we should only eat once per week but we really need to zero in on why we eat too much food and address it within our own lifestyle. ;)

Thanks Doug
I am giving your 15 minute rule a try- starting today. :) I know my eyes are bigger then my stomach.
-
I look forward to your result, I'll bet you find yourself satisfied with a half plate after 15 minutes wait time. It takes protein a bit longer to register "FULL" in the brain. ;)
-
This is what I needed to hear, I could find myself this week eating more, so I started to cut back and feel so much better I hope I'm down this week.If I'm not I'll just keep cutting back.

Wow, thanks again Doug! Last week I read the FTS book again to up my game but somehow I STILL missed this. I had gone from the 10" plate to the 8" plates early on but now I will look at my portions again. I bet my problem is portion control with meat. Anything in excess is "excess". I still using measuring cups and spoons for a lot of my FTS food prep. After reading this wonderful idea I think the "eyeball" portions on some of my foods have put me over the limit. Time to go back to the scales (food scales LOL) and make sure I get back on track. Will be putting this suggestion to use this week. Hooray for this forum and all the great folks!

I am guilty of not doing this.I wait to long to eat so by the time I eat i am starving and grumpy :D
-
Umpa, I really don't believe you would be a grumpy person..you and Doug seem to have such a handle on things!! But then again, I did read what Doug wrote about the Sam-E ;) been there done that; glad I'm done with it moods are back to norm again LOL and is my hubs sooooo happy.
-
I just forget to eat sometimes because I am so busy. The Sam -E has been a savior when it comes to menopause.A grumpy umpa is a bad thing!! :D :D :D

My skinny husband has been concerned that I'm not eating enough but he's getting used to my much smaller portions. His parents were young adults during the Depression and lots of food on the table was a symbol of their success. I was the oldest of 8 children and we ate as fast as we could to make sure we got enough, competing for food. These are all hard legacies to leave behind.
Thanks for the reminder, Doug.
-
tell him he will know if you are not eating enough, you will be cranky! :D :D
-
When I get cranky, he suggests I quilt. That seems to calm me down.
Smart man.

Great reminder Doug!

This plan of waiting 15 minutes often works for me with sweets, too. Delay, delay, delay. Oh, well, maybe tomorrow.

That is what I will do because I have been with FTS for a long time now and still only lost 8 lbs. so sad but I know its my portions. Thanks Doug. And I am on medication that added about 20 lbs so can that come off ? I cannot be without these meds. Atleast not yet. To go off I need to be on an island alone with just fish and the fish would not be to safe. I will talk to dr next week when I go in for my diabetes check. Which will be done.
-
Meds can raise havoc with our weight, especially steroids, talk to the doc, see what he advises.

Howdy Sweeties, ;D
Buford here, I am a Type ll diabetic. The VA folks told me about now
on three years ago. They put me on Metformin and Glybride(Don't have bottles)
so I might have spelled them wrong. At the time of my first blood test my BS was
459 and I was drinking water like I had been in the desert for a month.
Now for the rest of the story, nothing has changed my BS level as much as
low carb eating and FTS is the easiest of all the ways I have found to stay
where I need to be. The big plus to me was 85lbs of gut and butt are now history.
My BS without any meds this morning was 95 (goes from 85 to 120) during the
day according to what I eat. Now if I stick to Doug's half plate plan it stays under
100. I don't make two plates (I'm a ole fart and live with my girls "LCD",
LCD=Low Carb Dogs, they love it.) I put half of every meal in a freezer bag right
away. This works for me and I have a freezer full of meals to have the next day,
week or whenever.
Diabeties can be cured and I mean cured IMHO, with life style and FTS is the
best of the best to get you there.

YOU ARE TRULY MY EVIL TWIN! :D :D :D

Thanks buford for all your advice. I go this week to docs and will ask him. The meds I am on are not steroids they are anxiety meds but I want to ask him if would help the weight loss (http://www.fattoskinny.com/) if I stopped them. I would be less anxious if I fit in my pants . lol
-
Sweeties,
Let me tell you about anxiety. You lose 80 lbs, pickup two heavy grocery
bags (one in each hand) then get half way across the Publix parking lot and
start to feel your jeans sliding pass where your behind used da stop them
and not wondering if in walking slower or stopping is the right thing to do to
save your dignity.
Now thats anxiety
-
Hahaha! I'll be the one sitting in my car, making bets on whether the pants win or you do!
-
Been there. Done that, Buford!
But it happened to me in our Fred Meyer (Kroger) parking lot.
Good thing I was wearing a coat. Otherwise I would have been advertising my underwear.
Those last few steps to the car were quite challenging! :D :D :D
Bought a couple pair of new jeans that weekend.
-
I have seen it happen to an older women at Walmart . I helped out gave her my coat because she was so embarrassed. I am glad you guys where almost at your car
