Title: Milk in Tea, cream in coffee
Post by: jacksprattswife on March 10, 2010, 08:30:55 AM
Hi Doug!

I am English  (living in the USA).  I drink a lot of tea with a splash of milk in it each time!  I am just realising that there are carbs in milk and those splashes all add up!  I also enjoy a little cream in my coffee when I am out.  Do you think that these two items could be causing my stalled weight loss (http://www.fattoskinny.com/)?  Is that what you mean by condiments or are you jusst talking about salad dresssings?

That's exactly what I'm talking about. Use heavy whipping cream, it has 0 sugar. Each splash of milk adds sugar, each packet of Splenda is 1 carb! Each clove of garlic is 1 carb.....all the little things will add up. Keep looking hard, I'll bet you find more.

It is as I feared!  OK then!  Heavy whipping cream.  Thank you Doug.   Christine

Hi Doug!

I found a weaker tea that I can drink without milk.  I figured if people can give up their sugary sodas, I ought to be able to give up  milk in my tea.  This is a big thing for an English person!

Milk right now is my downfall. It took me weeks to learn to drink coffee and tea without sugar and creamer. (now I can't STAND sugar in either) I started buying 1% milk, and when I looked at the label...lo and behold! 13g of carbs and 12g of SUGAR! only 8g of protein, yikes! boy was I embaressed! I had stopped losing weight...after three whole pounds. grr! SO! Lesson learned:
Read the labels, read the labels, and: read the labels! lol
Thanks everyone!

That almond milk, which is Sugar free is really good. It tastes different that regular milk but is still very good in its own right.

You might be happy to know that Land O Lakes makes a heavy whipping cream in the can and it says sugar free on the label.  I found it at Wal-mart.  I'm not sure where you live but it gives another option as it doesn't have any carbs.

Hi dear,

It is good to take tea with a milk or coffee with some quantity of cream.
These two items don't cause stalled weight loss (http://www.fattoskinny.com/) but they reduce the amount of nicotine in tea and coffee.

Conrad,
Since our focus is limiting carb intake, milk in tea is not a good idea.

I'm assuming you are taking about caffeine in coffee, not nicotine.  Adding to the cup will not reduce the amount of caffeine though it will dilute the concentration a tiny bit.  If you drink the whole cup, you consume the same amount of caffeine.

I hope you get a chance to re-read Doug's book.  It seems you missed a concept or two the first time through.

wow its really amazing.. I was drinking tea regularly with milk but never focus on this thing but I am amazed to see you friends that you are very curious about the diet Garcinia Cambogia (http://www.garciniacambogia-australia.com.au/) and you research on every thing about the effect before eating. Impressive, really impressive.
