Title: fried fish my way .
Post by: jetfan on February 23, 2013, 08:53:55 PM
1/4 cup golden flax meal.
salt, pepper, garlic powder, hint of hot pepper mix with flax.
One scrambled egg, and a little drop of heavy cream.
Hot oil, I use canola.
fish filet's.  I use cod, whiting, or flounder.
Dip fish in egg wash, now into flax mixture. They will be nice and crusty.
Now put in hot oil and fry them up approx 6 minutes a side depending on thickness of fillet.
When done add some fresh lemon, a shot of hot sauce. For a side dish, I make coleslaw from the FTS book.
This is a great meal. ;)

Hi, jetfan! :)

Here's a tip for coatings...

I've found with fish that if you first put on a light coating of flax meal (or other low carb alternative),
then put the fish in the egg wash,
then back into the meal for a heavy coating,
the egg and coating will stick to the fish MUCH better!

This also works for chicken, beef, pork, etc.! ;D

I know TooSweet was talking about an infrared, oil free fryer when we were talking about deep frying turkey at Thanksgiving time.  I think I saw a counter-top version on Amazon.  I certainly don't need a turkey sized fryer.  Has anyone else used an infrared fryer for frying fish, chicken, twinkies (only kidding)?

I love my good old fashion cast iron skillet, best deep fryer ever! I have an outside gas burner keeping the grease outside  ;)

I haven't seen the smaller ones, but the one I have does a wonderful job on chickens, ribs, roasts....whatever you want to cook in it.  I'm not sure how fish would hold up though  ::)

We cooked a Christmas turkey in a Weber kettle when it was minus 10 degrees outside.  The trick was not taking the cover off and positioning the lid so we could use a flashlight to see the thermometer to tell when it was done.  We were visiting family in Illinois and wanted the turkey our way.

Nothing beats a cast iron skillet for frying. ;)

There are very expensive stainless skillets (with alloy core for heat retention) available.
But, to me, cast iron is every bit as good and much cheaper!

Only when you have muscles Tony.  Those things weigh a ton.  Wanted to buy a cast iron pot/lid to casserole in.  Changed mind after picking it up a couple of times.  Wow - heavyyyyyyy.

In my fryer it takes about 10 minutes a pound.  It's pretty easy.....I rub it down and maybe inject it the night before and when I'm ready....set him in like he is sitting, put the thermometer in and walk away...easy peasy  ;D
