Title: Eat Fats, Cut Carbs to Reclaim Your Skinny Self
Post by: mouseissue on October 07, 2013, 02:45:46 PM
Hi, Gang! :)

As many of you know, I discovered FTS while watching the 700 Club (a TV program produced by CBN) in the Summer of 2010. Doug was a guest on the program and demonstrated how much "hidden sugar" the typical American diet contains.
That was the genesis of my FTS journey...

On my journey, I discovered that by eating more fat than protein while keeping my daily net carbs below 20, and watching portions, my weight loss (http://www.fattoskinny.com/) progress would accelerate.

Here's an article that came out on CBN's website today that confirms the FTS lifestyle will promote good health and weight loss (http://www.fattoskinny.com/);

http://www.cbn.com/cbnnews/healthscience/2013/October/Eat-Fats-Cut-Carbs-to-Reclaim-Your-Skinny-Self/ (http://www.cbn.com/cbnnews/healthscience/2013/October/Eat-Fats-Cut-Carbs-to-Reclaim-Your-Skinny-Self/)

Jimmy Moore's testimony about how his prayers where answered is a mirror image of my own.
I prayed for MANY years that the Lord would give me a means to lose my FAT and keep it off... FTS was the answer!

God bless you, Doug and FTS!!! :) :) :) :) :)

Did you watch the program or just come across that on the web Tony?

I saw the program that presented this segment.  I was really excited to see it being presented.  But it really frustrated me with the host Pat Robertson's comments after it was over  >:(  It was obvious to me the he just still doesn't get it even after watching all the good health that Jimmy was talking about.  Basically he stated that a low carb diet was the Atkins diet and just protein and fats.  That a person needs to have carbohydrates to prevent things like gout  and arthritis in your joints cropping up due to the over abundance of ketones.  Explaining that the carbs burn up the ketones.   ??? ???  Comparing it to a coal burning furnace and having to scoop out the soot if you don't have the carbs to burn it up.  When will folks out there learn that a low carb life means just that "LOW" carb not "NO" carb.   :( :(  sigh  Makes me wonder if he was really paying attention to the segment at all  :-\

Hi, Shawn!

I saw it on the tube then looked it up online... A definite disjoint between the video and following commentary.

I agree about Pat's comments. He has his opinions about things, and among them, dietary regimens.
He clearly does NOT understand how ketosis operates and what a low carb lifestyle can do.
I wonder if he was asleep or using the restroom when Jimmy was telling his story? :-\

This is not the first time Pat's following commentary did not align with the segment he presented.
Although being on target about most things, I believe Pat's getting a bit too old to host the program.
And since his co-hosts are his employee's, they may be a bit reluctant to correct him on the air.

Pat is a good man, with a good heart, who loves the Lord, and the Lord's people.
I pray that the Lord let him gently know it's time to retire and allow his son Gordon to take over the 700 Club.

Hi Pam, I guarantee our eating plan will drop your weight....what I can't guarantee id that you'll commit yourself and follow the eating plan. It's not that it's hard, because it isn't....it's just different  ::) Most people hate change however that is exactly what you must do. Start with each individual meal....don't overwhelm yourself with trying to plan out weeks ahead of time. Purge the carbs from your home so you don't have them at arms reach and replace them with all the great ingredients that we eat. Re-Read the book and pay close attention to the sugar spoon comparisons. Get it into your head that carbs ARE sugar and sugar IS poison  :o Come onto the forum every day for support and enjoy your food each bite at a time.  8)

Thanks everyone for your support. This is going to be the year for change. I just know it.

Doug to your reply on getting rid of all the carb stuff in my house, I can't. My husband altho he is supporting me refuses
to eat the foods that I eat. Talk about being different, he thinks it is diet food even tho I try to tell him it isn't, so I just make sure I look at everything I go to eat. I know the things that I can't eat, it's really not to hard for me this time to stay away from it all. I really like this site because there is always someone who will always tell me honestly about the meals I eat and will let me know what changes if any need to be taken.

Hi, Pam! :)

With that coleslaw, replacing the rib eye with a lobster tail would REALLY get his attention,
ESPECIALLY if you have lots of melted butter to dip it in! ;D ;D ;D

That's a good idea, Tony but I don't like lobster. He got used to eating it when he was  in Afghanistan last year. The ribeye would get him, he loves steak. He's a steak and potato man.

Tony,
No my husband isn't in the military, he works for the Corp of Engineers. He was sent to Afghanistan to help oversee the rebuliding of their country. Our son however was in for 10 years until he had a seizure and was diagnosed with MS. He has been discharged for almost 2 years now.

Pamsway,

I certainly understand not being able to do a clean sweep on the carbs with other people in the house.  My wife and kids support me, but don't eat my way (or not that they know of, since I do the majority of cooking).

I have read this suggestion a number of times on this forum: designate a cabinet in your kitchen as yours and make sure it is stocked with FTS friendly ingredients.  Include whatever SF snacks you choose to include in your plan.  Then, when the urge for something sweet hits, go to your cabinet.  Just make sure not to raid theirs.  You could also do it the other way.  Make the entire kitchen carb/sugar free and give the carb eaters a cabinet or two to keep their junk food in.

I agree great advice!!  Love the new profile pic Mark!   :)    Pam It gets easier to ignore the carby stuff the further you get into detox.  My Hubs has a special place for his snacks that I don't even have to look at.  Can't believe he made me buy him a box of Ho Ho's the other day   :o :o :o :o  All I could think was how much sugar I had in my shopping cart!!  Haha   ;D ;D  Thankfully I got out of the experience unscathed  ;) ;)

As what I understand in the video, its okay to eat fats and protein but less carbo. Am I understand right?
What about apple? It is complex carbohydrates.

I'm officially taking a break from the scale - it's not been easy - so what I did was tried on a few pair of jeans and separated them into 3 piles - too small, just right & too big (baggy).  As I go about getting dressed I know which pile is which and go from there and I seem to be steadily able to wear some I'm the too tight pile (just need a baggies shirt to make it work).  Tonight my hubby commented on my "new" jeans- nope had for years but didn't fit comfortably / it's my daily win!!!

Hi, Sunshine! :)

Kudos for taking a break from the scale! :) :) :)
Many of us rely MUCH too much on it.

The scale can be our worst enemy... Umpa calls it an evil little box on the floor.
It can ruin an otherwise perfectly good day!

A scale doesn't know the difference between fat, muscle, or water.
All it knows is how much pressure is being exerted on it.

While we lose fat, our bodies temporarily replace the fat with water.
Since water is heavier than fat, the scale might make us think we're not losing (or even gaining).
Exercise will cause some muscle building. Muscle is also heavier than fat.

Using wardrobe as a "progress barometer" of how we're doing works well over longer periods.
It's also important to take complete measurements all around our bodies, often.
Sometimes, one part will lose while others remain unchanged for a short time.

Hi, Terrance! :)

Barring any other health complications (hidden or otherwise), if you are living the FTS lifestyle as Doug outlined in his books, you should have MORE energy, not less.

The one exception is during "sugar detox". The period when first starting the lifestyle while the body adjusts to living with much less free-flowing glucose in the bloodstream. This normally can last anywhere from about 10 days to two weeks.

I you are in detox, be patient. The bio-mechanisms in your body are working hard to adjust. This in itself requires a LOT of energy.

But when detox has been achieved, you will notice a HUGE spike in energy levels.
At that point, the body has re-balanced itself to a healthy state.

Thanks for the list.

But the number of veggies presented in this article is only a fraction of those we eat in the FTS low-carb lifestyle.

Doug's book, "FAT to Skinny Fast and Easy" has a MUCH larger list. And even it does not list all the veggies we can eat. The key is the net carb count, portion size, and volume of food we eat throughout the day.

Have foods that have high quantities of calcium and vitamin D. Also, eat two bananas every day in the morning.
Title: Re: Eat Fats, Cut Carbs to Reclaim Your Skinny Self
Post by: mouseissue on January 03, 2019, 03:06:47 PM
Hi, RonaldHare!  :)

Eating foods high in calcium and vitamin D are a good choice to start. But the net carb count of ANYTHING we eat makes a BIG difference in weight loss (http://www.fattoskinny.com/) results. That must be taken into account BEFORE we place the food choice in our mouths.

Bananas are NOT a good choice for the FTS low-carb lifestyle during weight loss (http://www.fattoskinny.com/) toward goal weight. During this time, we STRICTLY limit ourselves to 20 net carb grams per day. Some people find they need to eat a few less than that to see progress. Some may do well with a FEW more.

So you know, ONLY ONE medium banana has about 24 net carb grams. And two of them would about FORTY-EIGHT GRAMS! That's more than TWO DAYS' net carb allowance!

After we reach goal weight, we may find that we can eat an occasional banana without major impact. But until then, it is NOT advised for successful weight loss (http://www.fattoskinny.com/).

Hello I have the book Fat to Skinny now and plan to shop for the items I need to begin.  I have a couple questions.  in the book it says to top an item with cream cheese  So cream cheese is allowed ?  Also I like my coffee with H & H but do I now use heavy cream ? :-\

Hello, BellaNoela!  :)

I use cream cheese everyday on a GG bran cracker that I eat each morning with my vitamin and other supplements. I also use heavy cream in many things. Both items are FTS (FAT to Skinny) friendly. Both are very low (or no) carb.

Remember, it's the carb count that matters most. You have 20 net carb gram limit per day to "spend" on whatever food you like. I suggest adding greens to your menu each day for added fiber and other nutrients. Be sure to check carb counts on those, too.

Be sure to ALWAYS check labels for carb counts BEFORE buying any food.

Hi, EdwardDailey!

If you find you cannot tolerate fats well, you may want to talk to your doctor. For example, conditions like irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) can cause issues with processing fats. Medication can often help.

I hope you find a treatment that will help you.

Hi, Jeffrey!

The way to long term success with weight loss (http://www.fattoskinny.com/) is to make sure you eat no more than 20 net (digestible) carbs per day and watch portion sizes. Other than eating items that go over those amounts, you may eat whatever you want.

I urge you to read Doug's book for his story and explanation of how this eating lifestyle works.
It worked for me. It literally saved my life.

Regards,
Tony

Re: Eat Fats, Cut Carbs to Reclaim Your Skinny Self:
I'm eating healthy fats. Seen research online that butter is healthy too, as well as extra virgin coconut & extra virgin olive oils.
I'm drinking bulletproof coffee in morning with pure Stevia to sweeten.

I am also eating fats including butter and olive oil but it cannot suit my body. It shows some side effects like an upset stomach.

Hi, EdwardDailey!

If you find you cannot tolerate fats well, you may want to talk to your doctor. For example, conditions like irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) can cause issues with processing fats. Medication can often help.

I hope you find a treatment that will help you.

Regards,
Tony
