Title: Help for flattening out the tummy and toning the arms!
Post by: Sunshine on May 01, 2014, 04:39:05 PM
I'm so close to where I want to be but my tummy still isn't flat!  My whole life it's been my biggest personal complaint, and I guess my upper arms are right up three too.  Maybe to me it's all more noticeable because I have a small bust line and a petite frame.  Do I just have to be patient?  Do I do sit-ups?  Do I start some cardio?  Do I lift weights for my arms?  Do I need to eat more of something or less of something?  It's swimsuit season here and I just don't feel confident with a bikini yet.  I'm blessed the weight has more easily come off from my rear and legs.  But some things look loose on me because I need the waist to be bigger but then the legs and seat end up being loose.  So ... My tummy and arms are something I'm struggling with.  There I said it ... Anyone have any suggestions?

I tried a Pure Barre class for a first timer they did a $10 rate.  It's small moves designed to tone the body.  It was challenging and I was a bit sore the next day.  I'm scouring the internet and really being diligent about staying away from sweets.  I still have some Psyllium Husk capsules left so I'm going to use those once a day to take full advantage of all fiber has to offer.  And I have a resistance band I use for my shoulder therapy and I'm going to use that more regularly.

Well done Sunshine.  These are tough areas to work on.  Enjoy the 'burn'  ;D :D

To work definitions of your body you need to add some HIIT (Hi interval training) or cardio for the results that you want with some weight training to burn the remaining fat and enjoy your bikini.

Hi Sunshine, " Do I do sit-ups?  Do I start some cardio?  Do I lift weights for my arms? "  YES weight loss (http://www.fattoskinny.com/) is one thing toning is another. If you want that hard body you're seeking then you'll need to work for it  8)

Cool ... I can do that!  So happy with the weight loss (http://www.fattoskinny.com/)   progress and now I'm moving onto the next phase I guess :)

A friend suggested I increase my protein to help the muscle growth and decrease the amount of fat I intake.  She said .5 to 1gram protein per pound of body weight.  Is their truth to this or is it body-builder hype?  She also suggest I increase my carbs but I honestly don't feel I need them for energy - but is their truth to it regarding muscle growth?  I want to be lean and toned and stay away from anything like bulking/cutting as she was explaining it to me.

I'd keep my menu the same and add the exercise, a month from now you can review the results and tweak a bit if required, stay away from the carbs.

I am having the time of my life right now.  Since I added the weights and resistance training I'm over the moon with even more energy.  There aren't visible results yet but I can feel the tiniest bit of muscle beginning to develop.  In addition to my routine — When I am in the kitchen and waiting for something to cook - I challenge myself with 25 squats or 15 tricep pushups.  I just got a kettle bell and signed up for some free video exercises.  I have a few books that I'm picking a couple exercises for each muscle group to work on and making sure I give them (and myself) time to rest.  Who knew the upper body had so many "parts" to be exercised.  Finding the compound exercises that I can do at my level is still a bit challenging but I'm fine starting with the basics and looking forward to progressing!  And the best part is - The sugar cravings are 99% gone - which is a HUGE deal for me (just read through some of my previous posts HA HA!!)  That last 1% —— well, when I was at that wedding and in a panic - I was introduced to Quest Bars and I have a couple left (Double Chocolate Chunk is delish) and they have 3 carbs and 20 grams of protein (for a whole bar) - so I cut the bar in 4 pieces and every once in a while - I toss a piece in the microwave for 10 − 20 seconds and it's like heaven (without any guilt - or work)!!!

I didn't think it was too late either and I only say that because my mom has a 60+ year old friend who lost 100+ and stayed with her senior fitness Pilates and she looks great!

For me I'm inspired by a friend who has 4 kids and is 46 and took up weights and she took it to extremes mind you, but she dedicates 45 min 6 days a week and looks crazy buff

We traveled again this weekend and stayed the course with food and exercise.  It was a mindset because so much of the food looked amazing but I knew if I indulged - not only would I feel bad mentally but I'd probably be sick (literally) all night.  Not worth the risk anymore :)

That's RIGHT, Susie!!! ;)

Inflammation is the cause of most ailments and diseases (that are not contracted from a source).

Yayi I love to inspire people!  I'm doing 100 squats a day usually in 25 increments and every other day with weights and different feet positions.  On no weight days I try to do extra and that's when I challenge myself with 25 more while cooking!!  100 sit-ups 5 days a week usually in 20 increments and in between each increment I do 15 tricep push-ups too :). The jiggly is getting less each week and the weight loss (http://www.fattoskinny.com/) is still going even though a little slower as I'm close to where I want to be :)

My friend told me to get some sun to help the appearance of my arms, etc.  So I found a good self tanner and it's true - a little bronzing does wonders :)

We visited a Coney Island while traveling and they offered a 2 hot dog special topped with ground beef or chili and a Greek salad - I was elated - ordered without the buns and made sure no sugar in the beef seasoning, no chili.  Had with a little mayo and was full for hours!

Wow that's great you were able top it off with ground beef!!!
My skin is so dry, self tanners get blotchy on me.

I'm having the best success with St Tropez - I know, I know - it's pricey - but it looks amazing and there is zero streaking, and zero orange!  In fact when it goes on it's like Army green and blotchy - but you go to bed and shower it off and it looks like I've been on the beach all day!  I have a few secrets I've learned along the way if you want to know - just say the word!

I'd love some self-tanning tips Sunshine!
Title: Re: Help for flattening out the tummy and toning the arms!

Ok - shower and exfoliate especially knees, ankles, elbows, back of knees and sides of feet.  Then lightly exfoliate the rest of your body.  Once out of the shower, dry off and use a Vaseline type product and rub into elbows, ankles, knees, - all the places you heavily exfoliated.  The Vaseline helps provide a barrier so you don't get uneven tone at the end.  Then I use regular body lotion on the tops of my feet and the regular body lotion provides a lighter barrier to keep the tone even.  It's line the gradual tanners on the market that are somewhat half lotion half self-tanner.  So mix lotion with tanning stuff if you want to start small and don't be afraid to do test spots.  I usually use my tummy or upper thighs.  Then I swear by the self-tanning mit sims by St Tropez. It's multi-use and wash and air dry as needed.  Using the mit helps you rub the tanner on evenly.  Don't be afraid to aggressively rub it in and rub lightly over ankles and feet - the Vaseline/body lotion will help keep it even but sometimes I'll use a cotton ball if I think I was a little careless.  For my face I usually wear a tight fitting shower cap and put Vaseline on my eyebrows and lips and sometimes I mix the tanner with a little moisturizer and sometimes I don't.  Don't worry if you make a mistake  - usually the next day you can exfoliate off any streaks or touch up with makeup.  But that's why I swear by St Tropez - it's rare I get any streaks.  It just looks crazy going on and the scent is very pleasant.  They have several types of tanners and 2 shades.  Hope that helps???!!!!  Good luck!0

Thank you so much for the tips Sunshine!!!  I receive beauty products from the food bank I go to. They gave me 6- 6oz tubes of Jergens Natural Glow & Protect daily moisturizer. Says it gradually creates a naturally looking tan. Gave 2 to my older daughter, and still have 4. Your tips sounds good. I was thinking of mixing it with my skin lotion. I used it as a moisturizer & it was even on my legs but blotchy on my feet.
Wish I could afford to buy  St Tropez, but my money is all tied up with more important expenses, so i need to use what I have.
Boy do I appreciate your help!

I've used the Loreal brands with success prior to learning about St Tropez.  My main complaint was the smell but if you do it at night and shower it off in the morning I guess that would no longer be a problem.  It's 90+ degrees here so I want to look like I've been in the sun but save my skin from all the dangers.  That's so cool you get free products - don't be shy to try them if it's something you want. - give yourself some credit ;)
