Title: Enjoying My Journey Back to Good Health
Post by: ShihTzuMom1 on August 14, 2010, 09:48:30 AM
I just wanted to let you know that I am doing very well with my new "Fat to Skinny" lifestyle.  I have yo-yo'd for years, from my teens and up, now in my early 50's.  Back in 1999 I reached my highest recorded weight of 193 lbs. (I may have been higher, but didn't get on the scale).  I didn't want to see 200 so I got busy and took off 33 lbs., but little by little it started to creep back up.  At 184 lbs. I again got serious and got back down to 170 lbs. but even with exercising I wasn't able to get below the 170.  At this time I started to have issues with high blood pressure and diagnosed as a Type 2 diabetic.  I now take pills for both, and my weight was creeping up again.

Back in July I read an article in our local paper about Doug's book and thought it sounded interesting.  I sent for the book on www.chapters.ca (http://www.chapters.ca).  On the 19th of July I began my new life at 176 lbs.  I am very pleased with how easy it is to follow and I don't feel that urge to eat things that I shouldn't.  In less that 4 weeks I have taken off 13 pounds, now down to 163.  My blood sugar numbers are excellent and when I went to the Dr's. for a checkup on Friday, my blood pressure was lower that it has ever been since the high blood pressure diagnosis.  I am feeling great and am hoping when I go back to the Dr's. in 2 months he cuts down on my medication.

I bought a pedometer and have started walking at least 10,000 steps per day.  I feel great.  I haven't gone down in clothes size yet, but probably because I have stretched them out and am now fitting into them properly.  I am loving the forum.  Everyone seems so supportive of each other and am really enjoying experimenting with all of the recipe posts that are there.  Thank you for helping me and I'll keep you posted on my progress.

Well I was stuck on a plateau for a couple of weeks and even with going camping this weekend, the scale moved down.  I was so excited!!  Camping used to be a weekend long eat-fest, but I went prepared with my FTS weapons (LaTortilla's, 1 minute muffins, GG Bran Crispbread, etc.).  When my husband was munching out on potato chips, I got out my pork rinds (did not eat them from the bag, counted out my portion) and I had almonds for when he ate salty peanuts (again, not out of the container).  I didn't feel the need to snack every time he did, but I was prepared in case I did.  I didn't keep my food diary while I was gone, but wrote everything down and counted it up when I got home and I was well under the 20 net carbs each day.

I am now at the lowest weight that I reached 10 years ago.  I know the rest of the weight will come off slowly because it has been with me a long time.  I am feeling great, my blood sugar and blood pressure numbers are amazing, my clothes are fitting me different and I feel like I have a little extra pep in my step.
Hope everyone has a great day!!!

Thanks for the congrats.  I have to correct myself.  I weigh 2 pounds less than I did 10 years ago when I thought I had such an amazing weight loss (http://www.fattoskinny.com/).  160 pounds is where I was stuck on my plateau, I am now 157.5.  I treated myself today with low carb pancakes and SF syrup for breakfast.  I received the pancake mix with my first order from the Low Carb Grocery Store in Markham, ON last week.  I had been avoiding making them while I was stuck at the plateau, but totally enjoyed them this morning as a reward for all of my hard work.  It seems funny that I am so satisfied with a low carb treat.  That is not what I would have eaten as a reward back in the old days.  :)

Well I did have a 1/2 pound weight loss (http://www.fattoskinny.com/) last week, which is not an amazing loss, but is still a loss.  That includes going to a wedding on Saturday.  I was very careful to plan ahead.  I ate my lunch around 2:30pm so I wasn't starving when we sat down to dinner.  At dinner I think I made pretty good choices.  When the basket of buns came around, I sent them on by.  I did have salad, but it came with Italian dressing already on it.  The dressing was sitting on top, in the middle with chopped tomatoes neatly encircling it.  I was the first to take salad so I tried to dig around the sides to not get dressing.  I did get a little, so I'm sure there was sugar in it.  I suppose I should have asked for some salad without dressing, but I thought of that after.  I passed up the pasta and meatballs (I'm sure they had breadcrumbs in them).  I took a piece of boneless chicken breast that was stuffed with jalapeno cheese and wrapped in bacon, and the vegetable that they had was carrots.  I took about 1/4 cup because I know they have hidden sugar, I suppose I shouldn't have taken them, but I did and didn't take any roasted potatoes.  At dessert time I took Doug's suggestion and put some SF candy in my purse instead of hiding in the bathroom when the dessert came around.  So when the others were eating a ricotta stuffed crepes with raspberry sauce, I had my favourite Russell Stover SF Peanut butter cup.

I'll be honest and tell you I did have 2 cocktails, but chose vodka & club soda as opposed to wine.  I understand that it has zero carbs but still may hinder weight loss (http://www.fattoskinny.com/), but still was a better choice and I did plan before I went that this is what I was going to do.  I did get out on the dance floor and I'm sure burnt off a few calories.  I was feeling very good about myself so I was not uncomfortable to get up and dance whereas before I would sit out on the fast dances that all the girls get up and do because their husbands will only dance slow (like my husband).

The hard part came when they brought out a late buffet.  They had platters of sweets.  I had to walk by them enroute to the ladies room and I could feel myself start to salivate.    When I walked back to my table I saw that they had also put out pizza, so I got some for my husband and I, and sat down and picked off the cheese and pepperoni with my fingers and ate it.  I know it's not very lady like, but I don't think at that time of night anyone even noticed.  It did the trick.  I felt content and didn't go near the sweet table.

I felt that I had a very successful evening.  I was quite proud of myself that I just didn't just give in and just eat everything and tell myself that I would get back on track the next day.  I didn't feel like I missed out on anything and had a great time.

Have a great week everyone!!!

Thanks everyone for the support...and we get to do it again in 2 weeks.  We haven't been to a wedding in a couple of years and now 2 in 2 weeks.  This one coming up is at an Italian Hall in a neighbouring city.  They are well known for their food.  It will be tough to pass on that bowl of meatballs.  I might have to fill my purse with a full course meal.  LOL!!

This is what I did:  Where is says "Embedding disabled by request", click on the words underneath that say "Watch on YouTube". When you click on that you will see that your computer brings up the message (below your search bars and favorites and above the black screen where the video should be) "Pop UP blocked.  To see this pop-up or additional options click here".  When you click on it the top option is "Temporarily allow pop-ups".  Click on that and then go back and click on "Watch on YouTube", and now you can watch the video.

Well, it was 2 months yesterday since I started FTS and have now taken off 20.5 pounds.  I am now at my half way point, although I may decide that I don't need to get down as low as I had originally thought.  I'll know the weight I want to be when I get there.

I had a great week.  It seems to be getting easier because in he past I would have given up at this point.  We went to 50th birthday party on Friday night and I went prepared with some pork rinds and SF candy in my purse.  I didn't need to get them out, but they were there if I needed them.  They served pizza and wings which was great.  I enjoyed the wings (without the blue cheese) and picked the cheese and pepperoni off the top of the pizza and threw out the crust.

The next day we were at a luncheon after a funeral and I put a Low Carb Bar in my purse as backup but didn't need it.  They had out platters of sandwiches, cheese and veggies.  It was simple, I ate cheese and veggies and picked the ham off the little sandwiches.

I just love that there is always something we can do while out, rather than sitting and watching everyone else eat and hoping that our willpower holds out.  Have a great week everyone!!!

I have actually changed my target weight loss (http://www.fattoskinny.com/).   I don't have as much to come off as I had originally thought.  I have not been down this low for YEARS, so I was just guessing at what I wanted to weigh. So this means I am now within my last 10 pounds.
Have a great week everyone!

Well I got through Thanksgiving with flying colours!  I had been careful all week to keep my carbs on the low side.  I had a wonderful dinner yesterday with family, TOTALLY ENJOYED THE CRUSTLESS PUMPKIN PIE for dessert and still came in under 20 net carbs for that day eating a nice variety of low carb choices.  I was surprised when I got on the scale this morning and was down 2.5 pounds from last Monday instead of gaining 5 pounds plus in the old days after a big holiday dinner.  I may have to change my target weight again.  Still not into those size 10 jeans that I was hoping for.  I'll guess I'll know the right weight when I get there.
Have a great week everyone!!!

Umpa, Doug is doing great.  He has taken up a new hobby, photography.  It is so wonderful to see him enjoying life again.  He had his regular check up a couple of weeks ago and his numbers are all so much better.  The doctor said he wants him to keep his blood sugar readings around 80 and he approved the FTS way of eating.  He agreed that sugar is killing this country. I will never be able to thank you and Doug enough for this life change!  ;D ;D

Well I'm up 1/2 lb. this week.  Even though I tried portion control with all of my wonderful pumpkin baked goods, I was eating them every day and I guess it caught up with me.  I still have a loaf of pumpkin bread left, so I put it in the freezer.  So I guess it's back to jello & reddi whip as my treat this week and cut way back or eliminate the sugar alcohols.  Have a great week everyone!!

Your body needs adjustment time.Take out the tape measure and do your measurements, and then check them in a week before you weigh in. :)

I just got back from the Doctor's for my checkup and he was very pleased with me.  My bloodwork came back terrific.  He said I was "normal" which is very good for me.  The first day I started FTS my blood sugar was 12.8 that morning.  The morning my blood was taken last week it was 5.0 and my A1C was 5.7.  He is sending me for a full blood workup before I go back in December and said if I continue to lose weight (http://www.fattoskinny.com/) and my blood sugars are down he will consider lowering my meds.  Yay!!  I know my American friends go by different numbers, I googled it and you multiply my numbers by 18 (eg. 5.0 = 90).  I guess it's just like the U.S. dollar, yours is always worth more than ours, LOL!

Title: Re: "Skinny Blood" Enjoying My Journey Back to Good Health
Post by: Doug Varrieur on October 22, 2010, 09:11:59 AM
"Skinny Blood" is a very important element of FTS that we need to continue focusing on whenever possible. Most people come to FTS for the obvious.... to lose the outside visible FAT.....but many are unaware of the "inside fat" and how healthy our blood becomes on this wonderful lifestyle. Cholesterol, triglycerides and blood sugar drop into normal ranges as well as insulin production AND it happens fairly quickly. As you recall I define FTS as a metabolic weight loss (http://www.fattoskinny.com/) program and weight management lifestyle.

The changes within your body are the key to the WHY fat melts from our frames. Keeping your intake below 20 carbs per day is how you turn that key on. This in turn balances our system and reverses many complications caused by high blood sugar.

Congrats on your "Skinny Blood"  ;)

I don't know what happened this week but 3 pounds fell off.  I know I had been eating lots of flax things (wraps, izzet's bread, crackers), drinking lots of water, eating proteins & veggies, and only having FTS friendly "sweet" treats a couple of times (Flourless Chocolate Mug Cake & 1 Almond Meal Brownie that I had in the freezer).  I did go back to having the SF Jello & Reddi Whip when I thought I needed a treat.

My husband keeps telling me how great I look (and he is not one to compliment very often), but told me I need to change my posture.  I need to stand up tall and proud and not relax with that sway back that makes my stomach stick out.

I haven't been able to wear my rings for a few weeks, they keep falling off.  I don't want to get them sized until I have been at my goal weight for a while and my body is settled.  I may go to the jewellers and see if they can put ring guards in my rings until I am ready to have them permanently smaller.

I hope everyone has a great week!!

Well another 2 pounds off this week which means I made it over the 30 pound weight loss (http://www.fattoskinny.com/) mark, actually 31.5.  I have changed my goal weight back to what I had originally said when I began FTS, so I have 9.5 pounds to go.  If I count the weight I had lost before I started FTS I have a lost total of 48.5 pounds and I feel great!!  There is a smile on my face today!!

I hope everyone has a great week.

Not a good week as far as weight loss (http://www.fattoskinny.com/).  I gained 1 1/2 pounds but think it is because I ate too much cheese and processed meat on the weekend.  I tend to retain water if I eat too many salty things.  I know all the right things to tell myself to just get on with it, but it still is hard to accept.

BUT....what's not hard to accept is the simple fact that you now have the power of truth behind you. You know why you get fat and why you lose weight (http://www.fattoskinny.com/). Your journey towards a thinner healthier you is well under way and you'll never go back. Remember, there is no finish line, you're life style change is forever :) A little weight fluctuation here and there is no big deal. Don't let it scare or depress you, just stay the course, enjoy your foods and smile every day knowing how great you look compared to last year.  ;)

Not to worry, Shihtzumom. 10 pounds from now this little blip on the radar will be neither here nor there. You know the way, and it will lead you straight to your goal.  BTW I found the Stock & Barrel unsalted, roasted sunflower and pumpkin seeds at a larger PC store. Great stuff.  I've adjusted a cracker recipe to include them and I'm finding the crackers much more pleasant for daily lunch than the OneMinute muffin. Roasted seeds seem to have less carbs than raw, thanks for the shopping tip.

Thanks for the compliments Downeast.  You also are doing great.  I get inspired by all of the forum members.  I just love to see everyone's tickers moving down (whether fast or slow).  I feel pretty confident going into the Christmas season.  I just plan before I do anything and try to think ahead what may come up so I can be prepared.  I wish you continued success.

Well I had my Drs. appt. yesterday and he was very pleased with me.  He cut back on my Diabetic meds and my Blood Pressure meds.  My fasting blood sugar on Dec. 14th (the day I went for blood work) was 4.8 and my A1C was 5.2.  At my appt. yesterday my blood pressure was 96/68.  So that part was great.  My cholesterol has come down a little but is still higher than he would like it to be so he put me on the lowest dose med to bring it down.  So I guess I have to adjust eating high cholesterol things as well.  I was hoping to get away from meds but I guess that's not in the cards right now.  All in all a good visit to the Drs.  It is nice to go in feeling confident and knowing he will be happy with my progress.  He told me to keep up with what I am doing.

I have adjusted my ticker to show my total weight loss (http://www.fattoskinny.com/).  It shows a loss of 53.5 lbs. which 36.5 pounds of that has been since mid July when I started FTS.  I only have 4.5 pounds to go.  I put this weight on over a 20 year period and it has taken me almost 11 years to take it off.  I have mentioned in other posts that there is about 20 lbs. in the middle of that weight loss (http://www.fattoskinny.com/) that I have put off and on a number of times.  I still can't believe how simple FTS has been and not torture like other programs.  I don't feel like I am missing out on anything and am really enjoying feeling much better.

Well, Merry Christmas & Happy New Year to everyone.  I am confident that we can all stick with it over the holidays.

Well I am quite pleased with myself even though I gained 1.5 lbs. this week.  We had 2 large family dinners, Christmas Day & Boxing Day.  I made sure there were lots of low carb choices and had alternatives for all of my favourites.  I know I ate more food than usual but still kept to around 20 net carbs.  I had been eating between 10 & 15 net carbs per day, so I knew I wouldn't lose weight (http://www.fattoskinny.com/) this week.  I have no guilt because I didn't eat anything I shouldn't have and didn't feel like I missed out on anything because of the wonderful alternatives that were there.

Umpa, the "Carrot" Cake was amazing!!  My sister (not Cara) said it is way better than the carrot cake she usually gets at a gluten free bakery near her house.  And Jo, I made dressing using your "cornbread" recipe and it turned out great!  My niece who is unable to eat gluten was so thrilled to have dressing made with a bread substance.  I broke up the "bread" pieces and added onions and celery sauteed in butter and tossed with poultry seasoning, summer savory, sage, pepper and chicken stock.  Baked uncovered in the oven and it was great!

Beebs, again, your turnip casserole went over well!

So our 2 big dinners are over with, and just New Year's Eve to deal with, but that should be fine.  I haven't even had any alcohol for months, so it's just paying attention to what I am eating.    So I am not upset with the weight gain as I am sure in past years I gained WAY more than 1.5 lbs. so I am fine with that and will get back to eating less net carbs per day like I had been.

Have a great week everyone.  Remember, New year, new you!!

Shihtzumom1 I am glad you were a good girl ! I was not I went over the carbs by about 10 for the whole day but it was bad carbs not good carbs but its done so  all I can do is move on . I am glad your dinner went well (and you were able to use my cornbread ) .
I know that I think differently then before I found FTS because once I ate something I was not suppose too I would have said oh well I will start the first of the year ,so for that I am thankful that I just got right back on the FTS horse .

I hope you and your family have a Happy New year !

Well I have lost 1/2 lb. this week, but I have been up and down with these same 4 pounds since November 29th.  I should add that my average weekly weight does go down, so I know that I am doing ok.

I have rejoined the gym last week since not being there since early fall.  It was a balmy 12°F this morning, just a bit too cold for me to get out for a walk, so exercising at the gym it is.  Hopefully the added exercise helps shake things up so I can get the last of my weight off.  Inches have been coming off and my clothes fit quite differently than they did before.  I am now into a size 8 pants and wearing medium tops and feeling good inside and out.

I hope everyone has a great week!!

Thank you everyone.  Yes, a size 8 does feel wonderful.  I never thought this was possible, but FTS has been so easy, especially with all of the support from the forum, that it has happened for me.  The recipes are great and I just love that there is a substitute for almost everything.  So Owensmath, go ahead and dream because it will be a reality for you before you know it!

I am 5'4".  I thought I would be happy with a size 10 (although I didn't think I would reach that), but the size 8 snuck up on me.  I still don't look like an 18 year old, but don't expect to either.  I have gone back to the gym to try and tighten up a little.  Twice in the last 2 days I received compliments from people that have not seen me for quite a long time.  One of them told me that I had lost 1/2 of me.  The funny thing is I had on a big fluffy coat and no one feels thin in a winter coat, but she still made that comment.  I was amazed, but then again, my winter coat is a size medium, so I just smiled and said thank you.

Oh and Owensmath, I just love that swear checker!

Well here I am, just 2 pounds away from my goal.  I have lost a total of 56 pounds since the late 1990's with 39 of those pounds since I started FTS on July 19, 2010.  A few of you have asked to see some pictures, so here they are.

The 1st one was taken in the late 1990's.  The 2nd picture was taken July 10, 2010, just before I started FTS.  The last 2 were taken yesterday.

Skychant you ask what I will do to celebrate when I reach my goal.  Well in the old days I would have gone on a big eating binge trying to eat everything that I gave up while I was dieting.  Since I have not been dieting, and have been eating things very similar to my favourite foods, I think a shopping spree is in order.

I DID IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I reached my goal weight plus took off an extra 1/2 a pound.  That is a 41.5 pound weight loss (http://www.fattoskinny.com/) since July 19th when I started FTS.  Those last 5 pounds came off slowly but I was determined to not "diet" to lose the last little bit of weight.  I just followed along with my regular FTS eating and did what Doug keeps saying "only eat when you are hungry".  I still eat 3 meals a day, with breakfast and lunch being my lighter meals and a larger supper (on an 8" plate), and cut out my mid afternoon snack, with no evening snack either.  I guess that was just winter boredom eating that I didn't need.  As soon as I cut out those snacks, the last couple of pounds came right off.  So it has actually taken me 11 years of yo-yo dieting to take off 58.5 pounds to reach my goal.  I had been struggling all of those years, fighting urges and then getting stuck on a plateau having only taken off about 25 of those pounds.  Once I started FTS and those urges were gone and my favourite "fat" food was replaced with FTS friendly alternatives it was smooth sailing.  This has not been difficult at all.  I am so happy that I saw the article about Doug and his book in my local newspaper last summer, it has changed my life!!  So thank you Doug and Umpa and the FTS forum family for all of your support and encouragement!  I am looking forward to a healthy slim future!!  LET THE SHOPPING BEGIN!!

Thanks for the congrats everyone, I can't tell you how thrilled I am, but it is a very content feeling.  Just to let you know, I weigh just 6.5 pounds more than I did when I got married in 1978.

Yesterday I had a great shopping trip with my Mom and my other sister (not Cara) and was so surprised.  The jeans I bought were size 6, the dress I bought was size 8, the jacket I bought was size 10 (only so I could fit a sweater under if need be).  Everything I tried on I started with a larger size and had to go smaller.  That was reward in itself!!

I'm not really sure what to do now, I guess just play it by ear, a little trial and error.  The last 2 days were the first since July that I haven't documented what I have eaten.  I basically know what I can eat and will just continue low carb, with the addition of some fruit I have been missing for starters.  While I love strawberries I am looking forward to a 1/2 a Granny Smith apple.  Maybe I'll dip it in beanit butter or SF peanut butter to have with my lunch.  I don't want to lose any more weight, I am very happy where I am.  I still need to give my skin a chance to catch up with my body.  I'm in my early 50's so my skin isn't quite as elastic as it was in my 30's.

So I guess this is the real beginning of my every day low carb life.  I am so inspired by Doreen & Katary that they have had no trouble maintaining and I plan on following in their footsteps.

Now it's time to find your baseline, that point where the scale doesn't rise or drop. To accomplish this start slowly adding back some of those carbs you miss, like the apple. Keep writing in your journal so you can keep track of your daily carb intake. As you start to increase it you'll find the scale will also increase. as soon as the weight starts coming back on cut back and recognize where your body starts to re-gain weight . It might be at 30 carbs, it might be at 40 carbs....you won't know until you go through the exercise. Once you've found your baseline you'll know what you can and cannot do. Be aware that yourbaseline can change depending on the season of the year, your activity level and the types of carbs you eat. Choose foods like lower carb fruits, legumes a few whole grains, maybe a bit of oatmeal.....but BE CAREFUL not to give into cakes, pies, and other refined sugar products or DETOX all over again.

That's so awesome!

I hope you'll stick around here and ...

Enjoy that APPLE!

Don't worry Rena, I'm sure Patti would miss Gary (Katary) too much to disappear, anyway she has many people still to help :)

Of course she is a STAR now, check this out- http://www.fattoskinny.com/Testimonials.htm (http://www.fattoskinny.com/Testimonials.htm)

Thanks again everyone, I'm not used to all of this praise.

I'm just going to slowly add carbs Doug, starting by bringing myself back up to 20 net carbs per day.  I was eating between 10 & 15.  I never thought I would get excited about eating a half an apple, but boy was it tasty.  I dipped it in my SF Blue Menu Just Peanuts Peanut Butter and thought I had a million dollars.

I made the SF Lemon Meringue Pie from the Bakery Book yesterday for a treat and it was delicious!! Great recipe Umpa, you did good!!!  I gave some of it away to my parents and my in-laws and got rave reviews.

I have some good news!  I have been out of work since May and finally got a job.  Just like Katary, I used my time off wisely and got my weight and health under control.  I now feel like I can take on the world.  I start on Monday so you may not hear from me daily, but I will still be around.

Thanks again everyone for the help and encouragement to get me to where I am today!

So here I am, 4 weeks into maintenance and weighed in this morning right on my goal weight.  I have been eating between 20 & 22 net carbs per day.  As I mentioned previously I had been eating between 10 & 15 net carbs per day so I am just slowly increasing them.

I am starting into my 2nd week at my new job.  All is going well, but I find that my eating schedule is out of sinc.  I eat breakfast earlier than usual, so I'm starving at lunch and then hungry mid afternoon.  This week I'm going to put off my breakfast until just before I go out the door and hope that helps.  I did take almonds or pecans to eat mid afternoon, but it didn't seem to take care of that feeling.  I'm thinking it was just first week nerves that were bothering me, because I had plenty to eat at breakfast and lunch and shouldn't have felt hungry.

I hope everyone has a great week!!

Depending on your new job responsibilities, amount of stress, etc., you may find the times that you get hungry may change as well.
Once you settle into your new routine, you'll do just fine! ;)

Hi Smom1; congrats on maintaining your goal and good health for a month!
I am hoping to get to the Low Carb Grocery in Markham this weekend and wondered which bars it is that you buy. I remember you recommending them but don't know which brand. Anything else that you can suggest while I'm there? Thanks.

Yes Mimzy I am liking my new job, I just have to get into the swing of things.

Downeast, check out the Low Carb Grocery website to see the different flavours.  I buy the Doctor's CarbRite Bars, some flavours have as low as 1 net carb per bar other flavours are 2 or 2.5.  I have also bought the Chocolite Bars.  They don't have as much protein as the CarbRite Bars, but taste a little better (it would just depend on if you want the extra protein, or something more like a chocolate bar, although the taste does grow on you for either brand).  I don't eat them often but like to have one in my purse for emergencies.

I also like:  Sensato Hot Cereal (Strawberrilicious or Vanilla/Almond), Joseph Pitas, Bakers Deluxe Superflax Bread(1 net carb per slice), Walden Farms flavoured syrups, Walden Farms Thick & Spicy BBQ Sauce, Beanit Butter, LaTortillas, GG Bran Crispbread, House Foods Shirataki Spaghetti noodles, canned Eden Organic Black Soy Beans, Nature's Hollow Tastes Like Honey, Bella Vita Pasta Sauce, and Xylitol if you haven't found it in your local health food store.

My sister said the actual store is quite small (just like a little corner store)so ask someone if you don't see what you are looking for.  Their main business must be their online orders. She said it looked like there is a big warehouse behind it so they probably could go and get what you want if you don't see it on the shelf.  Good luck with your shopping trip.

Fats kick hunger in the butt quickly and will hang with you for a good while, as will heavy protein. Buy a block of really great cheese and leave it at work in the fridge. A good aged Gouda, or Jarlsberg for example. Beef jerky and string cheese in your purse is another great hunger stopper. Better than nuts and zero carb.

Post by: ShihTzuMom1 on April 06, 2011, 07:10:20 PM
Actually I did throw some string cheese in my purse Doug and didn't need to eat them today.  I'm sure it wasn't hunger that was bothering me, it was first week jitters.  I did put off my breakfast a little later so I think it helped as well as a cup of hot tea in the afternoon.  So no snacks were needed today, just a well planned lunch.

Hello everyone, sorry I haven't been around lately, my new job keeps me very busy.  I do pop in every now and then to see how everyone is doing.  You have all been in my thoughts and prayers, especially those in the areas with all of the crazy weather lately.  I have enjoyed seeing everyone's tickers moving...good job!!!

I'm off today so I thought I would let you know how things are going.  I reached my goal weight on March 14th and have been fluctuating a few pounds above and below over the last 2 1/2 months.  My new clothes that are still fitting me well so I must be doing ok.  I have increased my carb count some days to around 30-40 and most days between 15 & 20.  I have found it very easy to continue to eat low carb even with all of the temptations around me at work.  Someone is always bringing in treats, I just haven't found the time yet to make enough of my low carb treats to share with everyone.

Well I wish everyone continued success and good health!!

Hello everyone.  Thought I would give you an update on living the FTS lifestyle.  It has now been a year since I started eating this way and over 4 months since I reached my goal weight.  I have found it no problem to continue eating this way.  I still eat everything low carb but do eat things that are higher carb count than I did while I was losing weight.  My husband pretty well eats what I do, even though he doesn't need to lose weight (http://www.fattoskinny.com/), but has been very supportive of me.  He is constantly complementing me on how I look which really helps with boosting my ego and encourages me to continue with what I have been doing.

My weight has fluctuated up 5 pounds and back to my goal, but I did give myself a 5 pound buffer when I chose my goal weight.  Even with the 5 pounds on my clothes still fit well.  I have noticed that I have filled out in areas like my arms that looked funny to me at first when I took off the weight.  I think everything is settling where it should be.  Even my neck which was a continuous chin at one time is almost what a "normal" persons neck looks like.  I have mentioned in previous posts that I have been using Bio Oil on my neck, arms, legs, etc. and it seems to have helped with the elasticity in my skin.

On my last visit with my Dr. he cut back my diabetes meds some more.  I may not ever be totally off them, but just keeping my numbers at a steady good level is a wonderful place to be.  He is very pleased with me and told me to continue with what I have been doing, that low carb seems to work well for me.

Even though I don't comment on posts as much as before, I still watch everyone's progress.  You are all doing so well.  Just stay the course as Doug says and you will get to where you want to be and then continue with a healthy, long life.

Hi all!  Sorry to have been MIA for most of the summer.  I have been working at a summer beach resort with not a lot of spare time.  I have checked out the forum from time to time and have enjoyed seeing how everyone has been progressing.

It has been around 8 months since I have reached my goal weight and have been fluctuating up and down about 5 pounds.  I did give myself a 5 pound buffer when I chose my goal weight, so I figure I have been doing well.    My clothes are a little tight but I have not been exercising like I had been, but plan to get back at it when I am finished work for the season in about 2 weeks.

Exciting things have been happening since my last update.  My son has finally moved out and my daughter just got engaged and is getting married in June 2012.  It is so nice that I only have to think about what I am going to wear instead of panicking that I only have 8 months to lose weight (http://www.fattoskinny.com/).  Also in July 2012 is my high school reunion so I will be able to attend without being self conscious about my weight.

You will probably be hearing more from me over the winter.  Keep up the good work.  Everyone is doing great!!

Well, Hi ShihTzuMom1! :) :) :) :)
It's nice to hear from you again!

Sounds like it won't be long before you'll have an "empty nest".

Our weight will naturally vary up and down from day to day.
Setting a reasonable upper and lower limit on what you'd accept, is a wise thing to do.
By not paying attention to our weight is how we began to get FAT in the first place!

Well here I am, over 1 year of maintenance and am still hovering around my goal weight.  I feel healthier and more energetic than ever.
I reached my goal on March 14, 2011 although I went down a little too low so I adjusted it up by 5 pounds.  Eating the Fat to Skinny was has just become second nature now.  I do eat more fruit now, but other than that I stick to the basics.  Some days I eat more carbs than others, but it is always low carb products.
Not sure if you caught a previous post I put up a couple of weeks ago.  We just got back from a 3 ½ week vacation in Florida.  When packing for this trip I tried on shorts from last summer and they were too tight so I left them home.  Not even a week into my trip all of the shorts and capris I took with me started to feel baggy.  I ended up having to buy shorts and capris in the smaller size that I was last summer (not that I minded, I was shopping anyway).  I know I had been especially careful to only eat when I was hungry and didn’t snack when others around me were snacking.  At that point in our vacation the only walking I was doing was in stores, shopping malls and flea markets.  Maybe living in the north we carry a little extra weight in the winter to keep us warm.  I’m not sure why the change, but I was thrilled to go on vacation and lose weight (http://www.fattoskinny.com/).
The first 2 weeks we stayed with family and friends (West Palm Beach, then Winter Haven).  I did a little grocery shopping and made sure I had SF Almond Milk, chayotes, lettuce, eggs and cheese.  I also brought with me my low carb Sensato hot cereal, wraps and pitas.  I also took all of the ingredients for One Minute Muffins.  I was always prepared if we were eating at someone’s house  to throw a chayote in the microwave or whip up a quick salad if they didn’t have anything other than meat that was FTS friendly.  Everyone is used to me now and the way I eat and always checked to be sure there was enough for me to eat as well.  I also picked up some Breyers Low Carb Fudge Bars and SF Peanut Butter Cups to have as a special treat for dessert.
Restaurant eating was the easiest.  Salad, meat and would substitute a vegetable for the potato.  If it was something that came on a bun I just asked for it without the bun and either just ate it with a knife and fork or I did carry a pita and a wrap in my purse.  No problem!!  Never once did I feel deprived or like I was missing something.
The 3rd week we were on our own, gulf front at Madeira Beach.  Such a gorgeous stretch of beach to walk every day.  We walked to restaurants, walked to John’s Pass and of course lots of walking while shopping.  I can’t believe all of the bargains in your stores.  My favourite place was the Beall’s Outlet stores.  Low prices, then up to 80% off on the sales racks and on Mondays another 15% off because I’m over 50.  So much fun!!
I also saw in a post by Katary on how to order low carb at Starbucks.  A pikes with 1/3 steamed heavy cream with SF flavour.  I took his suggestion and got the cinnamon and it was wonderful!!  To me it was like having dessert.
So I just wanted to let everyone know that not only does FTS work to lose weight (http://www.fattoskinny.com/), you can keep it off, just like Doug said it would.  Continue to be aware of everything you eat, keep it low carb and don’t use excuses like you are at someone’s house or away on vacation.  If you change your lifestyle, you will have a new and improved you!!
So this summer I have my daughter's wedding and my high school reunion and I don't have to stress about being overweight.  I am looking forward to all of it!!

Awh  thanks!  You just can't see all the wrinkles in that tiny picture.  :D  ha ha

I had kind of stalled out lately, so last week I started back writing down every bite I eat.  That's been a real eye-opener!  At least I've learned that I can maintain by estimating my carbs.  Hopefully the little horse on my ticker will get to trot to the right soon!   ;D

Just dropping by to say hello to everyone.  I have been so busy with preparations for my daughter's wedding coming up in less than 2 weeks.  Showers, Stag & Doe, dress fittings, shopping, lists...OMG it is lots of work.

The nice part about this is I didn't have to rush to lose weight (http://www.fattoskinny.com/) to fit into a dress.  They actually had to take in the one I bought as I started taking Zumba class and toned myself up.  Also photographs are not making me panic.   So I have to say thank you to Doug, Umpa and my FTS family for helping make me comfortable in my own skin for my daughter's special day!!

I didn't realize that a Stag & Doe is a regional thing to Southern Ontario according to Wikipedia.  It is like a big party where everyone gathers to help the wedding couple raise money to help get them started or pay for a honeymoon (or sometimes pay for the wedding).  It is for both men & women with raffles, games and penny sale, music, food and drinks.  People buy a ticket for $5 each which usually includes admission, a buffet meal (food provided by friends and relatives) and a door prize ticket.  Quite often people just buy a ticket to help out whether they are going or not, or even if they don't know the wedding couple.  Some places call it a Jack & Jill and some call it a Buck & Doe.  Friends and family try to sell as many tickets as possible to cover any out-of-pocket expenses so any profits go directly to the Bride & Groom.  It's not like a wedding or shower that you have to be invited, you can even buy a ticket at the door, the more the merrier.  It works well in small towns because everyone knows everyone and it is usually a great place to run into people you haven't seen for a while.

My daughter and her fiance had lots of people attend and made a good chunk of money to put towards a downpayment on a house.

Hello everyone.  Sorry I haven't been around much, I have been busy enjoying life and haven't had much time for sitting at the computer lately.  I am still following the FTS lifestyle and eating low carb.  It has become an everyday way of life for me.

Since I last posted my daughter got married in June.  The wedding was beautiful and it was so wonderful to be able to concentrate on her and not have to stress that I was not comfortable with my weight.  I will add a picture from then as well as a picture of me from mid October when I was on a winery tour in Niagara-on-the-Lake with my female family members.  Just got back from a vacation in Florida but I was always the one with the camera in my had and I guess my husband never took any pictures of me.

I have been enjoying seeing the progress everyone has been making.  Keep it up, you are doing great.  I'm going back to work in a few weeks but will try to pop on the forum from time to time.

I agree with Shawn!

You look wonderful! :) :)
The bride is beautiful, and it's apparent where that beauty came from!

We do miss you around here.  Please do check in from time to time.
