Lean On My Shoulder / Re: Confession

Itsoversugar -  :'(  don't beat yourself up. Take a deep breath and forget yesterday.  Like an AA step - do one day at a time. If you falter, shrug it off then return to the 'good (sugarfree  :D ) side'.  You can't fix yesterday, but today and tomorrow you can work on.

Sherripie -  so sorry about your sis.  Prayers on way.

General Discussion / Blood Glucose Test - Diabetics
« on: June 30, 2012, 07:31:15 AM »
I was just reading some of the past posts regarding testing of blood glucose levels for diabetics.  I'm sure most of the diabetics out their who do their own tests are aware of the need to insure the area they are testing (fingers) is clean.  A reminder never goes astray though.

A little while ago, my mother (non diabetic) who tests my dad's levels, makes us all take a test if we are visiting at the time.   She insisted on doing mine (I had been eating cake covered in powdered sugar - pre FTS) and she almost whipped the plate from under my nose as the reading was so high.  She thought I was about to go into a diabetic coma  :D  I calmed her down and washed my hands - she re-did the test and it was normal.  She never used to wipe dad's finger or get him to wash his hands.  The powdered sugar gave a false reading.  Working in aged care (both in home and in facilities), I found a lot of people failed to do this simple step.   (In facilities, proper procedures are in place).

Count me in the group hug.
My family are Polish and food is - what can I say - 'family'.  You can't have one without the other.  Try to pick out the least likely food to offend.  I found if I make something in the dessert line, I can actually have some dessert (usually cheesecake).  They all love cheesecake.
Mum is usually pretty good and includes a roast something along with all the other stuff - though she didn't last time - through me for a loop!
They will probably all be watching and trying to put food literally on your plate.
I'm not a really assertive person (silly me - I hate to offend people) and will not take a stand if it is not necessary. Not only do I hate to offend people, I hate to make a scene over nothing.
You could plan stategy - put food on your plate, play with it and spread it out to make it look like your eating  :D, or shovel into a napkin when no one looking  :D or b so busy helping load everyone else's plate you don't have time to eat.
If all else fails - smile, say thank you, then turn to your husband and say "try this dear, it's fantastic and pile it from  your plate to his (what are husbands for if not this).
I'm sure you will do great.  Don't stress.  Enjoy your family.

General Discussion / zero carb cream
« on: June 27, 2012, 06:57:39 AM »
You know what really bugs me - the fact that you have zero carb cream.  Here the lowest I can get is 0.7 carbs/20ml (equivalent to 1 tablespoon (15ml) plus a teaspoon (5ml)).  I can only put it down to the fact that it is the thickening agent they use.  But it is a nuisance factor when you have to measure up to get carb count.  So every time I see a recipe stating 0 carbs, you can bet your bottom dollar that it gonna cost here :P
