I am so happy for you, Donna! :) :) :)

You continue on with FTS for the same primary reason that I do.
I want to live a long, healthy life. And by living FTS, I have a much better shot at it.
The weight loss is really a secondary (but very nice) benefit.

I get what you mean by  "normal" and "acceptable" and "regular".
We are "normal" skinny people now. But our minds are slow to catch up to it.
Even after being at (or near) goal for well over 2 years, I still sometimes think about "big & tall" sizes.

General Discussion / Re: Quest Bar

Hi, Stephanie! :)

There is an old adage that tells us if someone will lie to us about one thing,
they will likely lie to us about anything.

Since their nutrition labels are under litigation for disclosing false fiber content,
I would be EXTREMELY suspicious about the true contents of their product, and avoid it.

That being said, assuming that their ingredients list is accurate,
there does not seem to be any "FTS no-nos"  in the bars.
However, if you eat them and find your progress effected, drop them like hot rocks.

Hi, Jackie! :)

That's interesting!!!

I'm baffled regarding Gorden's taste response to Zero.
However, like Gorden, diet Coke tastes bitter to me, too. 8)

Hi, Jackie! :)

As Zero is the sweetness-essence of cane sugar (sucralose),
I can't explain why Gordon experiences a bitter taste.

Could Gordon be taking medications that might effect his sense of taste?
For sure, there is something at play here that's effecting his sense of taste.

General Discussion / Re: Question About Blood Sugar
« on: March 03, 2015, 01:18:35 PM »
Hi, Jacki! :)

One blood sugar test is not sufficient to draw any long term conclusions.
That's why diabetics take blood sugar reading multiple times each day.
People with insulin resistance problems can experience the odd spike, now and again.

A much better metric than simple blood sugar measurements is the A1c test.
According to the National Diabetes Information Clearinghouse (NDIC):

"The A1C test is a blood test that provides information about a person’s average levels of blood glucose, also called blood sugar, over the past 3 months. The A1C test is sometimes called the hemoglobin A1c, HbA1c, or glycohemoglobin test. The A1C test is the primary test used for diabetes management and diabetes research."

The A1c gives a clear picture of how efficiently our metabolisms are handling blood glucose.

Welcome to the FTS family, Anne!!! :) :) :) :) :) :)

One of the coolest things about FTS is that it is not a cookie-cutter weight loss plan.
Doug designed it to be simple and very flexible to fit any lifestyle or ambition to cook.

Doug's advice describes a perfect start for any newbie!
Once you get the ball rolling, living the FTS lifestyle will become second nature to you.

And if you ever need any support, we're here to help you.

General Discussion / Re: Question About Blood Sugar
« on: March 02, 2015, 12:52:38 PM »
Hi, jackibar! :)

Umpa is right... That is a classic blood sugar spike.

No two of us will respond the same way to the same carby food exactly the same way. But one thing is for sure, over time those spikes damage our metabolisms.

Our bodies make "adjustments" when this happens.
Those "adjustments" lead to insulin resistance, and eventually full-blown type II diabetes.

I've been in maintenance for a long time now. And when a situation arises that I eat
some carby food, I firstly don't to eat too much of it. And for 3-4 days afterword, I would restrict my carbs to between 10 and 15 grams a day.
I DO NOT so this often!... In so doing I could re-damage my healed metabolism.

Our bodies are amazing self-healing machines.
They will continue to self-heal if we avoid pushing the self-healing mechanisms too hard or too often.

huh!! ;D
Really? Is this just in your area or a national thing? Awesome! So if i found one in lets say FLA. I would be able to talk with her/him? Would she/he be able to write Rx too??
Thanks so much for that info. Any one have a good one they would recommend?

Hi, Huh! :)

Most osteopaths (or other prescribing providers) usually must see a patient before drug prescriptions are made. Not sure if this is an FDA requirement or state level.

Okay, I've tried and tried to get used to Ranch instead of Thousand Island - but it's just not the same! It ruins my whole "salad experience" because I just don't like it nearly as well!

So I tried the homemade low-carb Thousand Island recipe I found in the forums that was something like:

1/4 cup mayo
1/4 cup sour cream
1/4 cup sugar-free ketchup
3 tablespoons sugar-free sweet relish
1 tablespoon prepared mustard

This is VERY close to "the real thing" - except it seems way too sweet to me and my husband!  What's causing this?  The ketchup or relish?  And any tips on how I might adjust this recipe to make it less sweet but still have it taste, smell, and look like the real thing?!!

Thanks a bunch!

- Jacki

Hi, Jacki! :)

Try reducing the amount of sugar-free sweet relish from 3 TBSP to 2 TBSP.
Adjust again (up or down) depending on your tastes.
