General Discussion / Mexican Night Out w/ Friends
« on: May 29, 2014, 10:36:00 AM »
Gosh do I LOVE Mexican.  We went out with friends - and here's how I ordered (without making a scene) …

- I asked for a grilled chicken breast - plain, so sugar or wheat products added.  Then I asked for it to be topped with melted cheese.  And to go with it - a side salad with lettuce, 2 small avocado slices and some grated cheese and taco sauce (not salsa, since I find taco sauce more often has 0 or fewer carbs) and sour cream (which I used to make a dressing).  It was filling and incredibly delicious!  And they didn't up charge for the special request - bonus!  And I passed on the chips, salsa and cocktails and didn't miss any of it.  Every small victory helps!!

I had my body fat checked back in January and haven't had it checked again yet.  Tomorrow is the day … we'll see what those numbers say!

I got inspired from a visit to Macaroni Grill where they offer an appetizer of fresh mozzarella balls wrapped in proscuitto and baked in a marinara sauce.  My version - I rubbed down a couple boneless pork chops (0 carb) in dry Italian seasonings (made sure used 0 carb) and filled a casserole dish with Walden's Tomato Basil Sauce (0 carb) and took a few mozzarella balls (Burrata, 0 carb) that I wrapped in deli ham (0 carb) and baked it as one dish.  Then sprinkled grated fresh Locatelli cheese over the top before serving.  Quite delicious if you like those flavors  ;D

Gosh - where would I start.  One in the purse and one at home.  I had family try it in their coffee and even "they" couldn't tell a difference!  Makes fabulous homemade whipped cream and even whip in some cocoa powder for a chocolately treat - love with the Carb Not Beanit Butter!  I also used in butter to make a sweet butter for breakfast with a microwave
bread recipe.  In a pinch I've used in green beans with bacon pieces or ham.  I also added to LaCroix sparkling flavored water :). I'll stop for now :)

General Discussion / Re: Carbo Replacement
« on: May 27, 2014, 08:38:34 PM »
With all the traveling - I did a couple days of zero carbs + green veggies.  Day 1 was tough after a few delicious but correct dinners out.  I also did not purposefully eat until I was so hungry that I would eat lettuce raw.  And that made the rest go so much easier to listen to if I was truly hungry.  I really did eat the raw lettuce/spinach too just to test myself that I wasn't justifying something :)

Weight Loss Stalled! WHY? / Re: Why Do You Eat?
« on: May 27, 2014, 08:30:49 PM »
Wow - what an incredible discussion - reads like a mini book or e-book I guess :). I fully admit to having a large appetite.  And I have (had) a sweet tooth to boot.  Now that I'm adding in resistance training I'm learning more and more about food as fuel.

By chance my hubby and I met this incredibly ripped gentleman and we had a crazy off the cuff discussion about what he's done to have such a lean body weight with an amazing amount of muscle mass.  He was like a photo out of a magazine.  He said he went thru extensive body testing to get his lean body mass, fat, etcetera.  Then this lab did calculations for him on what he needed for fuel.  Macronutrients such as protein, carbs and fats.  And to his surprise he needed much less protein than what a typical body builder needed.  He kept his carbs under 30 grams and the rest - fat!  If I recall correctly it was a huge amount but for his size I'm sure it fit.  He likes eating this way because his mood stays even, his energy is high and he can go hours without food!

I've used the Loreal brands with success prior to learning about St Tropez.  My main complaint was the smell but if you do it at night and shower it off in the morning I guess that would no longer be a problem.  It's 90+ degrees here so I want to look like I've been in the sun but save my skin from all the dangers.  That's so cool you get free products - don't be shy to try them if it's something you want. - give yourself some credit ;)
