General Discussion / The Potatoe ?
« on: May 26, 2010, 09:16:28 AM »
Someone recently showed me a book where the author recomends amng other things ( avoidiing processed carbs , sugar etc., she does allow complex carbs) having a potatoe with skin every evening. The author claims that this helps bring the tryptophan into the brain which increases serotonin from the days protein thus helping to reduce food cravings. Has anyone heard of this? Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Mark

Hi Umpa,

Thank you for your response but I am not clear how I can best get energy doing intense exercise without carbs.
Thank for you expalnation as my trainer believes low carb is fine for the sedentary but not for serious workouts. Please set me straight on this.

Thanks so much,

Mark

General Discussion / Weight training, exercise and carbs

Hi Everyone,

As a newbie here I was wondering if the carb factor needs to be tweeked if you are involved in weight training and more intense exercise. I currently work with a trainer who believes you need carbs if you are working out (weight training and cardio, fairly intense).

Thanks,

Mark

Hi Everyone,

I am a 56 year old retired New York City Firefighter and Pastor. I just got the book and was wondering what are the best ways to get started. I am prediabetic and need to lose about 60 pounds.

Thanks,

Mark
