Ausgirl I saw that you mentioned that the Low Carb Grocery now has items at your local Nutrition House in Brantford.  The last time I looked at the locations on their website they only had 2 places listed as LCG Express.  After I saw your post I went back to the Low Carb Grocery site and was so excited to see that they now have a Low Carb Grocery Express at the Nutrition House at Pen Centre in St. Catharines.  There are a few other locations as well.   Thanks for the heads up!  http://www.thelowcarbgrocery.com/storelocator.php?cPath=132

You're welcome ShihTzuMom1!

I totally agree Doug,
a week or so ago chicken breasts on the bone were on sale at my local grocery store, so on a Sunday night, I roasted 5 of them and I was set for either a quick dinner when I got home and/or a healthy lunch!

WAY TO GO TONY! Congratulations!

Last night (after a hard day at my new job), I had some errands to run after work (one of which was a trip to the supermarket) and so didn't get home till 6.30.  While at the supermarket I picked up a ready-made BBQ chicken.  I checked the carbs - 0, thankfully.

Last night, I had some with some leftover cauliflower and broccoli with cheese sauce.

Today I had it in a warmed tortilla (3 carbs - Mama Lupa's tortilla, I find them the best), made a chicken salad with some mayo and put had with some lettuce for lunch .

Did not getting home till late again(!), I just made a quesadilla with cheese, chicken and some salsa (1 carb per tbsp) and sour cream (2 carbs per tbsp) on the side......SCRUMPTIOUS!

There is some leftover chicken salad (I made extra at lunchtime) for my lunch tomorrow....

Im so singing the praises of a store bought chicken right now!

« on: February 24, 2011, 06:10:22 PM »
Has anyone tried the tasty kakes? Are they good? also how many carbs? I ordered the GGbrancrisp bread should get it pretty soon. I haven't tried anything else yet.  Next am going to order the tortillas. I bought some down town that are 4 carbs and they are good, but if you can get tortillas with 3 carbs, why not!  I have tried the russell stovers candy, it's amazingly good!! I don't keep it around though just buy a small 3 piece box or I'd eat it everyday.   Any help would be appreciated on ordering.  I want to try things but can't afford to throw money away.  Someone said the Bakesquick is good I'm going to try that soon.  I'd like to know about sugar free ketchup and BBQ sauce ( not walden farms) any other suggestions great!!'

Thanks for your help!

I guess it is a matter of taste.  I don't like that really artificial sweet taste, never have, and Walden Farms BBQ sauce seemed to have that - same with the 1000 island dressing.

Im going to try your bbq sauce though Doug, thanks

Haha, that's funny - I posted the same thing the other day - its disgusting!
I actually don't like a lot of their stuff, but after the bbq sauce and how revolting it is, I don't bother with their stuff!
Sorry, I am not a big bbq sauce fan, I only bought it because I didn't want to feel left out when everyone else was eating ribs......but it was DISGUSTING!

I agree with what every one else has said Nitason1, you have done so well so far.  I don't understand how carb reduction can affect your kidneys, but then again, I'm not a medical professional.

I have been drinking lots, but perhaps not as much as I was, because I have been in training with a new job.  I also think I need to cut down on the cheese!

Breakfast Recipes / Pancakes (with almond meal/flour
« on: February 23, 2011, 07:55:35 AM »
I just had the most delicious breakfast!
I tried a similar recipe last week and although nice, they were a little dense and thick.  I found another and tweaked it this morning - was delicious!

5 tbsp almond flour (I used Bob Mills (I think its called) and its more like almond meal?)
1 tbsp cream *
1 tbsp water
1 egg
1/2 tsp baking powder
3 pkts Xylitol **
generous splash vanilla extract ***
2 tbsp oil (I used canola)

I mixed all the wet ingredients and added it to the almond flour and baking powder.

They were quite runny, but I just cooked two at a time.

The original recipe said it made 2 large pancakes - I actually made 5.

My calculations are around 3.5 for the flour and 1 for my egg - 4.5 total

They were so good with no sugar maple syrup and a little butter!

*(the original called for sour cream, but I used cream - way better and 0 carbs)
** (the original called for a couple of pinches Splenda)
*** (the original used DaVinci French Vanilla Syrup  but I didn't have that)

I also think they only used a pinch or so of Splenda because they used the Syrup which I didn't have, so I just increased the Xylitol.

The last time I had these, I was not hungry until dinner time!

ENJOY

LOL though having said that Tony, I could do with something to "move" things along at the moment!
I'm going to have to cut back on the cheese I think!

Jo, you are an inspiration of willpower to me, you have not given up and just kept on plugging away.  Good for you and you should be very proud of not only what you have done for yourself, but what you have done for Tyler.

And Tony - wooooo hoooo - congratulations!
